I had one folder shared with my pc(pc1) from other pc(pc2)then harddrive of
pc2 broken however I could see all files working offline folder.
Today I deactivated this option and my folders disappeared, someone know
where I can found that??

- Windows XP Setup >> internet connections from a motel dialup phoneI need help, recently I've been on the road with my desk top(yes my desktop)
vaiio and although in the recent past ,like the last darned hotel, I've been
able to connect to my isp using the dial-up rules in the internet set up
process. However for some reason I am unable to do so from this motel even
though I can use the same calling card for regular calls from this line
whenever I try using the callcard as part of the dialing rules I get a
notification that my username and/or password are incorrect, when I know for
a fact they are not. Is there something that the motel is doing or am I just
missing something obvious this time that I used to do and am not, now?

- Windows XP Network >> Printer can't be found on network printserverI have a Konica-Minolta 2300W color laser printer (USB or
Parallel). I tired to hook the printer up to my linksys
print server via USB and I can't print to the printer.
I talked to Minolta support and they say they don't support
the use of print servers.
I have never heard of a printer that can't be printed to
through a network print server. Is this possible? And is
there a way around the problem?
I am at an end on this one...

- Windows XP Setup >> Re-Activation After Reinstalling XPHelp! I had to reinstall XP after our PC contracted the
Blaster Virus. Now when Windows boots I get a message
saying I need to re-activate before I can log on. When I
choose the "yes" option to activate, XP logs off, then I
get the same message to reacivate. I called Microsoft
support (NOT toll-free) and was given an incident #srx-
031103601818, then transferred to another dept where I
remained on hold (still on MY nickel) for a good half hour
before I hung up out of frustration, with no answer or
solution.

- Windows XP >> Multiple Printers questionHi all
I've just setup a new Canon LBP3360 printer attached to my notebook USB
port. All went fine and I can print from Word
Now I would like to setup a second 'copy' of the printer driver so that I
can set it's preferences to duplex printing
I tried doing this by adding a new printer and all seemed to go OK.
However this 2nd printer won't acutally print anything, the job just sits
there in the queue
I thought it would be possible to do this, but perhaps not ?
Has anyone else installed two copies of the same printer with different
printing perferences under windows XP ?

Yesterday I booted my PC and tried to login but received the following
message:
'Windows cannot load your profile because it may be corrupted. Contact your
administrator' followed by 'Windows cannot find your local profile...'
This is bad. I am of course, 10 hours into my taxes on this PC...
I have logged in using another user account, as well as the Admin account,
both successfully.
I ran a checkdisk on my next boot, but no change.
I tried to copy the user profile in question using System
Properties|Advanced|User Profiles, but that failed.
I am currently running a full system image and am about 8 hours into that
(big system).
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to recover from this?

that I have not downloaded any updates. How can I get this function to work?
I know that I should have about 50 updates listed.
If download history does not work, where within Win XP is a log file of the
updates I have installed? SP2 is installed.
I need this info to build a CD with all updates in the event of a reinstall.

SP2, I upgraded from windows ME on my HP Pavilion computer. If so , would i
have to use my system restore CD that has windows ME and other programmes on
it and then re-install Windows XP. What about the activation, i have already
activated this , can it be done again on the same PC?

- Windows XP >> Welcome Screen Shows I Have E-mail, But No E-mail in InboxI have to have 2 accounts on my computer that are password protected.
But when I or the other user turn on the computer under our name in the
welcome screen it shows that we have â??X- number of e-mails. This number was
the last number of e-mails in the inbox & no more e-mails are in the inbox I
am using Office Outlook 2003 SP2. Any help would be appreciated in getting
rid of this flaw.

- Windows XP Network >> Xp and 98 - compatible in network?I have 3 XP computers and 3 Win98 computers connected via
two hubs. I can share files among the Win 98 computers
and share files among the Win XP computers, but I cannot
share between the 98 and XP computers. I've tried
everything I could think of:
Checked the wiring
Checked the hubs
Restarted the machines
Renamed the machines
Ran networking wizard (on xp machine) and then ran the
subsequent network setup disks on the 98 machines
I don't understand what could be wrong. In fact, they
were all networked until we had a power surge. None of
the hardware was harmed by the surge and all the hardware
is functioning fine.
Any ideas? How can I fix this?

cant search more that which are d/l in OE.

hard disk), but when I go to C:/Docs and settings/Owner/ it is not listed
there. Any ideas?

Never mind, just discovered I have to manually dismount the drive and it
goes out of the Send To list.

I have a PC running Win XP Pro and I need to substitute it with Win XP
Home....If I run the Installation CD it tells me that upgrade from Pro
to Home is not allowed....so I can Install Home substituting Pro...But
am I going to lose all installed programs? Do any of you know
about?...any suggestion is well accepted...thanks...

- Windows XP Network >> Internet Connection SharingI have two computers connected on a network through hub.
In the first one I have enabled the ICS. The settings of
the "Local area connection" of this computer are:
IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preferred DNS server: 192.168.0.1
The settings of the other computer are all set to auto.
When I make an internet connection I see both "Local area
connection" and "Internet connection" icons at the task
bar of the second computer but I can't open any pages
with internet explorer. Is there someone who can help?

- Windows XP Network >> loggin onas guest?, bypassing login?At our office we have a Microsoft Windows Network, our file server is a
MacOS X server, on this server we have a 'workgroup manager' piece of
software which details usernames, passwords and file access restrictions.
We now have some mobile laptops connecting to our network, they also connect
to the server and access the files.
However, the laptop users don't appear to be loggin in to the network when
they turn their machines on and i think that instead of them using their
previously created username, password(and therefore file access rules) they
now bypass these and are merely acting as a guest user.
This is not a job which needs to be fixed on the 'workgroup manager'
software is it? I think its mre to do with the way in which they are tryingto
connect. How can i sort this problem, any ideas -they are both usingWindows
XP Pro.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Second Harddrive problemsEvents required me to reinstall Windows XP Home Edition, once this was
complete I was unable to access my second harddrive. Anytime I attempted to
open it, it gave the message "do you want to format this drive?" I have
verified that the device is properly installed through the device manager -
all drivers show up and are clear of any errors (appear to be anyway). It is
my hope that someone out there can tell me how to get my system to recognize
that this drive is available and already formatted for use. Also I am really
not wanting to recreate/reload all the programs and data to that drive.
At a loss for what to do next.

I was just wondering about something. I have a dual boot system, both
OS-es are windows XP. When I install the second OS (on a different
physical) harddrive then the OS does get installed and maps the
'windows' drive to the letter D.
I have 4 harddisks in total. First is basic windows versions. Second is
for my documents. Third, my downloads, music and video's. And fourth my
second windows installation.
Now My default installation (on C) maps the second and third harddrive
as D and E. This is used by multiple programs. If I want to use these
same programs in my second installation, the drive mapping is different
and thereby letting the programs malfunction.
What I would like to be able to do is influence the driveletter of the
active partition of windows (to F). Is that possible?

I log on, it doesn't automatically go to my saved
settings and my home page keeps coming up "working
offline." I have to go into a favorites (most aren't even
highlighted at this point) click on the favorite site,
then manually type in my home page (for example
www.yahoo.com) and then it asks my to connect, but I'm

I want to know if it is possible to determine a connecting IP address in
2000, XP and Vista. Sometimes I see the internet connection icon (next to the
time display) active, but have no idea about the origins of the connection.
It could be an update or undesired connection. Apart from Norton internet
security are there other tools available, easy to install and use?
