Windows XP >> Is there a utility for backing up all data including Favorites, Address book, & email in preparation for new C harddisk. I received a message at boot time that the Dell Disk Monitor noticed that
"my hard disk is operating outside the normal specifications, and it is
advisable to immediately back up all data and replace my hard drive."

Is there a utility for backing up all data including favorites, address
book, and email folders. I believe I read about one in a Microsoft
Newsletter sometime in the past year. Actually, I believe I have backed up
just about all data except the Explorer Favorites and Outlook email folders
and I don't know how to find them. If there is a utility available, maybe
it might back up these and some other folders I have forgotten.

Also, is there a way to backup XP and all programs for restore on a new hard
drive? I don't believe the XP Backup facility will do that.

If you have a rescue disk the valueadded folder may be on
it or your XP Disk, Mine was on disk #2

Insert the XP or Rescue CD, and run NTBACKUP.MSI program
from the folder D:\valueadd\msft\ntbackup

In XP Home the ASR Floppy Disk does not work . It will NOT
backup to a CD. You can back up to a folder on your
hard drive then burn it to a CD. The native program in XP
will not span CD's though.

You can cheat it some with a packet writing program like
Roxio Direct CD (comes with Easy CD Creator ) or DLA
You then use a CD ( will not Span cd's) or DVD to back up
too.

things for you.

It's located at Start / [All] Programs / Accessories / System Tools / Files
and Settings Transfer Wizard.

This is really an issue with Dell. They have everything, in most cases,
locked to specific hardware. These proprietary systems are cheaper
up front, but when an issue such as yours comes up it can be quite=20
expensive, if not under warranty. A new HDD can be bought for
around $60 to $80 with old to new software.
