I have a problem with my sound I have Windows XP (that come with my Acer

using limewire or any other application it is all distorted, when I listen to
a CD it seems OK, when I am on an online chat it is fine but very quiet, I
have the volumes at full and I am only just hearing the people talk. I have
Windows Mwedia Player and also Nero on my computer, not sure if I have any
other media players on but can this be a problem. I am in deep need of some
help.
Thankyou in advance

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> M`I'5-Pe rsecution . C apital Radi o - Ch ris Tarr ant-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=
-= Capital. Radio - Chris Tarrant -=
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=
Capital Radio DJs have been "in on it" from the start.. One of the first
things I heard in the summer of 1990 was from. a Capital DJ who said, "If
he listens to Capital then he can't be all bad" (supportive, you see.. We're
not bastards).. Much of what came over the radio in 1990 is now so far away
the precise details have been obliterated by time. No. diary was kept of the
details, and although archives if they exist may give pointers,. the
ambiguity. of what broadcasters said would leave that open to
re-interpretation.
In spring 1994, Chris. Tarrant on his Capital morning show made an aside to
someone else in. the studio, about a person he didn't identify. He said,
"You know this bloke?. He says we're trying to kill him. We should be done
for. attempted manslaughter".
That mirrored something I had. said a day or two before. What Tarrant said
was. understood by the staff member in the studio he was saying it to; they
said, "Oh no, don't say that" to. Tarrant. If any archives exist of the
morning show (probably unlikely) then it could be found. there; what he said
was so out of context that he would be very. hard put to find an explanation.
A couple of days later, someone at the site where I was working. repeated the
remark although. in a different way; they said there had been people in a
computer. room when automatic fire extinguishers went off and those people
were "thinking. of suing for attempted manslaughter".
Finally, this isn't confined to the established radio stations.. In 1990
after I had. listened to a pirate radio station in South London for about
half an hour, there was. an audible phone call in the background, followed
by total silence for a few moments, then shrieks of. laughter. "So what are
we supposed to say now? Deadly torture? He's going. to talk to us now, isn't
he?", which meant that they could hear what I would say. in my room.

- Windows XP >> STM3 S BackmonRecently I have had programs and printers stall and when
checking the task manager, noticed the specific operation
appears twice in the TM, both items labled "not

or CANCEL.
What is this and what do I need to do to correct the

- Windows XP >> Access Denied on XP shared treeHi All,
You've all heard this before, but please bear with me, just in case I
say something new...
I have a small, 3 PC home network. The PC on which I keep shared
items (the "server") runs XP Pro. It is a newer PC, with a fresh
installation and no old hard drives installed. The other two PC's (the
"clients") run XP Home. If these two were dogs, they'd be mutts. Although
I built all three, these two contain parts I don't even remember putting in
them. All three PC's are up to date with Microsoft Update.
I have a large nuber of shared files on the server for the other two
PC's to access (nearly 15,000 to date). Yes, many are MP3's.
Without exception, all of the files work fine on the server PC. They
do everything that could reasonably be expected of them. On the client
PC's, all of the files appear in Windows Explorer, but that's as far as
"work fine" goes. Many do not play. If I try to copy them from the
server, I get an Access Denied error (permissions, disk full, armageddon,
etc.).
--------
Observations & Trials:
Even though the server PC is new, with a single, new, 80GB hard drive,
and a fresh install of XP, I tried the "take ownership of your
directories" fix. No effect.
I have tried the "turn off simple file sharing" fix. No effect.
Within a given directory, some files are okay, some are not.
There does not seem to be any correlation between a file working or
not, and its size, the length of its name, the order or date at which it
was written to the directory, etc.
In the interest of heading off the smart-asses among us, there is also
no correlation to the genre of the music, the talent of the artist... :-)
Working and "broken" files appear to have the same permissions,
ownership, and other properties set.
The same shared files behave the same way on both of the client PC's.
When I add new files, they are often added "en masse," as I digitize
my old albums and tapes. I generally copy 20'ish files at the same time,
using Windows Explorer, from my "rip and clean" area to the shared area.
When accessed from one of the client PC's, some of the new files work and
some don't.
The fact that both clients act identically, tells me the issue is on
the server. The fact that the files work fine on the server tells me the
issue is with file access, not the files themselves.
--------
What the hell? Anybody?

Windows XP MovieMaker >> WMM2 Effects and Transitions Missing
I'm new to using WMM but am enjoying it so far. One problem though... I have
no transitions or effects in the collections pane. My PC at work was recently
undated to SP2 and has 60 Transitions and 28 effects, but not my home PC. I
an running WMM 2.1.4026 on WinXP Home SP2 on 1.7Ghz Intel Pentium 4, 1Gb Mem,
300Gb Hard Drive. Looking for a more technical explanation of how WMM2 links
to Transitions and Effects. All Movie Maker files appear to have the correct
dates and versions (compared to my PC at work). Help please!

FWIW...I'm guessing that going to...
Tools / Video Effects or Video Transitions...
doesn't work either?
Do these articles offer anything useful:
Bad Installation Of Movie Maker 2.1

What can I do if I upgrade to Windows
XP SP2 and Windows Movie Maker 2.1
is not installed successfully?
http://tinyurl.com/65pfo
And...you may want to download a copy
of SP2 and try reinstalling it.
Download Windows XP SP2
http://tinyurl.com/6ubys
(Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.
It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.
And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.)

- Windows XP >> unusual standby problemI am running a Pentium 2.4 with Windows XP home and whenever I am away
from my computer I put the computer on standby as I've had three power
supplies catch fire and ruin computers. Yesterday I get the message
"the device driver for the 'communications port (COM1)' device is
preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all
applications and try again. If the problem persists you may need to
update his driver."
there does not appear to be any device operating on communications
port 1. The drivers are something like: "serenum.sys" and
"serial.sys"
when I remove these drivers I then get the same message regarding the
modem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem but it makes no
difference.
Please help.
Thanks,
Harry

as I open programs it seems two programs are open by looking at the task bars

- Windows XP Network >> XP Home and access to my school networkHaving just got a laptop with XP Home OEM my school administrator told me XP

sure what the school's server uses (can find out tomorrow) but I assume
either win network or Linux/Unix.
Any ideas?

- Windows XP Network >> XP Home Network Upgrade...For some months now I have been experiencing various problems with my home
network:
4x XP (SP2) machines connected via a switch and using 1 of the PC's as a
host for the ADSL ICS.
Most of the problems seem to have been browser and firewall related. Having
read the posts here and followed what seemed to be the general advice I
finally decided to splash out on a wireless ADSL modem/router (with 4 LAN
ports). I wired three of my PC's to the router (the cat5 wiring was already
in place and I couldn't afford three wireless cards as well!) and connected
my laptop via a wireless PC Card.
The setup was quick and easy. The result has been outstanding. All
connections are rock solid, each PC always appears in the Neighbourhood
Places and has never (so far) dropped out, the broadband speeds seem faster.
I can now turn off/reboot what was the host PC without losing the
connection.
The purpose of this post is therefore to say to anyone experiencing browser
or connection issues - if you are not using a router - then get one and save
yourself a whole lot of grief... all I have to do now is save up for a
printer server !!
(I won't disclose the make and model of the router unless someone want's to
know because I don't want someone to spoil it by saying "I would't have got
one of those they are useless" or words to that effect!!)

- Windows XP Security >> Microsoft People - Get Your Butts In Here NOWIt appears from this group that I am far from alone in my
frustration with the download and installation process
for the XP SP2 Update.
Until this service pack is downloaded successfully by the
majority of users and its bugs are worked out, a
Microsoft Technical Staff Person needs to monitor this
list AT ALL TIMES.
I see a lot of unanswered questions, which - as if my
anger isn't already about to boil over - is UNACCEPTABLE.
I know the MS people are very busy right now with this
update, but guess what? SO ARE WE.
GET YOUR BUTTS IN HERE AND ANSWER YOUR CUSTOMERS'
QUESTIONS. We don't pay you people our good money (and a
lot of it, too, I might add) to be ignored during such

- Windows XP Support >> Windows XP Crashes on Start-up; Computer FreezesMy daughter's Dell 4100 desktop, running WIndows XP Home Edition SP2, crashes
on startup and the computer freezes. It works normally in Windows safe mode.
What happens is that the computer freezes and displays an Windows Explorer
error message to the effect that it encountered an error and needs to shut
down. This happens after the desktop has loaded. From that point on the
only way to shut the computer down is to turn off the power -- also, Windows
task manager won't work.
I then get a Dr Watson Postmortem Debugger. The relevant info from that is:
Event type: BEX
P1: drwtsn32.exe
P2: 5.1 2600 D
P3: 3b7d84a2
P4: dbghelp.dll
p5: 5.1.2600.2180
P6: 41109691
P7: 0001295d
P8: c00000409
P9: 00000000
I am tempted to reinstall/repair XP, but before I go to that length I want
to see if there are any ideas or suggestions. Thanks.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Partition resizingHi.
There is one PC running WinXP (NTFS) where I need to install Linux, but
after 2 months I will have to uninstall it.
How do I create a partition for Linux, without destroying any of the data
in WinXP, and then have it available to be deleted in 2 months, and convert
that linux partition into a NTFS again.
Something lilke shrink the partition, then create a Raisfers in the empty
space, and then delete the Raisfers parition, and resize the NTFS partition
to the original size... All that needs to be done from Windows and withou
destroying any data.
Thanks,
in advance.

all computers are able to print even with this message. It is very much a
