Windows XP Hardware >> What is different between AGP and PCI video card? AGP is a different connection used to allow the CPU to send display infos
(colours, text etc..) to the monitor. You can use an AGP video card only if
you motherboard comes with an AGP slot. It is not the same "cream" colour
as the PCI slot connectors (It is brown.) PCI cards can not fit into an AGP
slot and vice-versa.

PCI video cards tend to be slower than AGP. Newer video cards are mainly
offered as AGP version.

Brand loyalty is still good. The two most popular version of video cards
controlling chipset ATI and nVidia. nVidia does not sell video cards
directly, but make the controlling chips. ATI sells video cards directly
and also allow other manufacturers to sell card based on the ATI chips.

AGP is faster.
PCI slots can be used by other cards. (making it more useful to have an unused
PCI slot than an unused AGP slot)

Before I got a dual-output card, I had one video card in an AGP slot and one in
a PCI slot and was able to view single images on two monitors.

Windows XP Hardware >> What is different between AGP and PCI video card? AGP has direct video access, PCI is therefore slower.
