- Windows XP >> Windows XP HomeI upgraded to subject OS and it has been performing very
well. Suddenly, every time I start to load, the disk
checker interrupts. I've looked at drive manager, in
control panel and all (3) hard drives are rated "healthy
and active". I've defragged the drives and tried
everything I know to correct this frustrating problem. I
would appreciate any help I can get.

- Windows XP Setup >> XP Pro Installation ProblemsHi, I was just recently upgrading my XP home edition to XP Pro on my IBM
PC...Anyways I get about half way through the installation process when I
receive a prompt saying that an existing driver (VGA i think) failed to pass
the XP logo test, now no matter which option i select the installation
process seems to crash and reboot the system. Now it wont allow me to do
anything cause it keeps rebooting the installation process and I don't want
to format the machine as i have important and sentimental data on it.... Can
anyone suggest how i can recover my disk, or overcome this problem?

- Windows XP Setup >> Manually Configuring Resource ControlI heard back from tech support for my motherboard in
regards to why I can't have both my AGP graphics card and
mass storage hard drive/ide controller working at the
same time. They suggested that I do one of the following:
1. move your controller card to different PCI slot and
try. (tried already)
2. configure Resource Control By MANUAL under Integrated
peripherals, you could assign the IRQ to any PCI cards on
your system.
3. upgrade your Operating System, eg. windows 2000 or
Windows XP. (I'm running WinXP already)
How do I do number 2?
Thanks.

- Windows XP Support >> Windows XP Crash intermittentlyI have recently installed a new hard drive (after my old one failed - on Sony
Z1VA notebook computer), loaded appropriate drivers, and some new programs
(Kapersky 6.0, Acronis Disk Director, Windows Outlook 2003). I also have an
external hard drive installed when at home. I have suddenly begun to
experience the Blue Screen of Death when attempting to connect via wireless
at my local library to their Public WiFi service. I've never had this
problem before, and it does not occur at my home wireless network, with or
without connection to the external hard drive. It only happens when
connecting to the Public WiFi.
In looking over the Event log, I noticed the following Erroor Code that
seems to be associated with the crash event:
100000dl, parameter 1 02010405, parameter 2 00000002, parameter 3 00000000,
parameter 4 02010405
Does anyone have any idea what the problem is that is causing the system
crash? Thanks.

- Windows XP Hardware >> keyboard driver for Sony VaioSince upgrading from Windows ME to XP Professional on my
Sony Vaio Notebook series PCG Z505GA my keyboard
malfunctions. First of all, the function keys (fn) no
longer function with the battery level, sound volume
brightness and similar functions. Secondly, the cursor
jumps all over the page when I am in a text document. It
did so again while I was typing this.
Some one said I need a driver for XP from Sony. If that
is true, where do I get it?
Otherwise, what's the problem and how do I fix it?
Help please!
Thanks

- Windows XP Update >> Windows Vista Keeps Offering Me the Same 27 UpdatesNo matter how many times I check for updates in Windows Vista (Home Premium)
on a brand new Toshiba laptop, Vista continues to offer me th esame 27
updates available for installation. I always elect to install the updates
and I let the machine reboot like 5-6 times and wait (about an hour) for it
to finish. However, when it's done, it still offers me the same 27 pending
updates. What's going on here?

- Windows XP Hardware >> os on 2 drives?I had a 60g Max drive. I installed a 160G Seagate drive. I used the Seagate
software to move everything to from the 60G to the 160G. Everything looked
like it worked fine. About a year later, I decided I wanted to wipe the 60G
clean and use it for backing up. I wanted to test to make sure the 60G was
not part of any program, so I disconnected the 60G and booted up. The
Windows xp prof o/s was different. My desktop, settings... When I connected
the 60G back, windows worked fine.
What is wrong? How do I find out what files are still on the 60G that are
being used, and how do I move them to the 160G?
Thanks, Jeff

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Keep soundtrack & video timelines together when inserting new videOne problem I have in WMM is when I have made detailed edits to the audio
timeline and then go back and drop in more video. I need a way to tell the
application to keep my audio track aligned with the video track, even when I
drop in new video toward the beginning of the timeline. As it is now, if I
drop in new video at the beginning of the show, I have to go back and
manually re-align the audio with the video because it all gets out of sync.
Does this make any sense? The only workaround I can devise is to just not do
any work on the audio track until after all video has been put into the
show, but that kind of defeats the point of nonlinear editing. i'd like to
be able to just use the mouse to select a segment of video and audio,
right-click it, and say "keep these in sync" and know what whatever I drop
onto the timeline before this segment wouldn't push apart my audio/video.

causing problems and i had to delete it . Now i want to set it up again but
can't figure out how i did it first time round. Anyone?

- Windows XP >> Sob story - help!I had aproblem with XP after years of trouble free running - just kept
getting the BSOD every time when booting. To cut a long story short, I
decided it must be some sort of corruption on the HDD, so I reinstalled XP
with a formatting of the c: partition.
However, even that gives the BSOD when I try to boot even though it
installed OK!
I've tried MEMTEST, and that looks OK.
The CPU temp is OK.
I have a RAID setup with a c: partition (system and reformatted) and d:
untouched from previous install.
All BIOS settings are at default, and basically nothing has changed from the
setup that was working perfectly for some time.
What could be happening? I'm tearing my hair out - especially as I've lost
some critical data!

- Windows XP Update >> KB835732 Install FailsHi,
W2K, SP4 all updates installed except KB835732 because it fails from the
windows update site. I downloaded the patch and tried installing from a
local copy with the ZoneAlarm firewall and Norton AntiVirus 2005 turned off,
logged in as Administrator, and I get an "Access Denied" message after a
bunch of file copying. Log file below. Can anybody help? What access is

- Windows XP Security >> safemodeI have the same problem with the administrator account as many others. From reading some of the responses to other peoples questions I need to start my computer in safe mode. How do I do this? I tried pressing f8 as one person suggested in a different answer but nothing happened. Ctrl-Alt-Delete doesnt seem to get me to safe mode either. Please help me!

- Windows XP Support >> My sound scratch.Sorry, if I have some bad English :p
Well, when I'm playing a song, or my computer makes a noice, the sounds make
some funny things.
"I'm clo-o-osing the-e go-oo-d da-am-n doo-or"
When I have a fast internet connection, then there's nothing, but like now,
when I'm having a slow connection or none, then it's very bad.
And I have just formated my computer. It didn't help.
What can I do?

- Windows XP Support >> XP Home updateI am having trouble with KB928366, for .net1.1
I have followed the instructions for an answer I got a few days ago, which
suggested I remove .net1.1 and then reinstall it.
I cant remove it because it says that the "installation source is not
available" and it wont install using the download, saying "installation
failed contact the supplier"
The updates still exist in my system tray, and every time I shut the machine
down it tells me there is something about to install, but of course it sits
for a while then shuts off.
Any idea what I should try next
