System32 folder displays

Windows XP538
I am having the same issue as others with the system32 folder displaying on

start up. I attempted to follow instructions in KB 170086 and also ran the

script from www.kellys-korner.com that several people recommended. That

utility could not fix problem - it said expected registry entry not found.

When I look at the registry keys listed in 170086, I don't feel I am seeing a

problem as described in 170086, but I am not sure. I thought to go to the

final step and delete entries other than the default Windows entry which the

article says is SystemTray REG_SZ SysTray.exe. I don't have that entry. The

entry that says default has a value type of REG_EXPAND_SZ and the data is

c:\\windows\system32\. There is nothing following the backward slash. Is this

entry bad or is this the correct default? I do not know what to delete and

what to keep since my entries do not match the article description. I am know

my way around a computer, but not around the registry. Any help anyone can

offer would be greatly appreciated. The computer is a desktop running on

Windows XP SP2. Thank you!

Re:System32 folder displays

Hello H. Eckstein ; hope this helps. Did your computer ever have

"SpywareBlaster" installed or "Code Amber Ticker?" I did a quick

research in google using your key words "system32 folder displaying

on startup expected registry entry not found" and I found a usernet

group with the same problem as you; they followed the recommend course

of treatment to solve this issue but received the same message

"expected registry entry not found" as you. I recommend reading

"PJ replied to PJ on 2 Apr 2005 " and judge for yourself on your

next course of action.

Re:System32 folder displays

That is not the correct default and is a bad entry.

Both keys mentioned in my machines have a null entry for the value

data and show as (value not set)
