- Windows XP Network >> Lost all network adapters from Network Connections folderI suddenly seem to have lost all my network adapters from the Network
Connections folders and can't seem to get them back. This WinXP service
pack 2. Everything was working fine, using my Netgear MA111 to access
the wireless router. Then lost the network connection. When I opened the
Network Connections folder, all of the network adapters were missing.
Can't seem to find any way to get them back. The adapters show up just
fine in the device manager and show they are working properly.
Any ideas?

- Windows XP >> Here is a better Idea on all the check MS doesBetter Idea on all the check ms does.
Instead of Activation, Wga.
Here is the solution.
Do a CIN(Computer/software Identification Number) check.
we call the cops before purchasing a car and they check it using a
vin.
This way, the dealers, consumers. distributors and vendors can check
to make sure they have a valid operating system.
Instead of checking with the police. We would check the Id number at
a Microsoft website or by calling a toll-free number before purchasing
the operating or computer system.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> XP Home Addition - A suspect productI have had a HP Pavilion for a year and a half with XP
Home Edition as its operating system. I have also
received the usual Microsof updates. One update, when
install completely locked my out of my computer. I would
like to have reponses to the following.
1) How do I uninstall the program that allows updates to
download into my computer.
2) What is the most cost effective way to install another
operating system to replace the XP Home Edition.
3) Is there a lemon law that effectively forces a
manufacture and seller of software to replace defective

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Cannot delete old programsHello please help...
I installed windows XP and am trying to delete an old
Mcafee Virus Scanner and Firewall that I never use, in
order to recover disk space. I no longer have the
installation CDs so the Add/delete programs won't let me
get around that. Is there anyway to do this without the
disks???
Any replies would be greatly appreciated...

- Windows XP >> autoexec.nt in Windows XP not used..?Hi all
I am trying to create an alias in Windows XP.
I would like my command line interface to understand the
UNIX "ls" as Windows "dir".
So, wht i am doing is to put the line doskey ls=dir in
autoexec.nt located in %windir%/system32/.
But it dosent seems to work..
When starting a command line from start - run cmd, and
then typing doskey ls=dir it is working just fine.. but
only for that window and that session...
What is the right way to do this??

- Windows XP >> removing cached registryHi all. When i login to my pc, it says my cached credentials has expired. My
pc is joined to domain. How can i remove the cached credentials? Moreover
after a while i could not login to my domain account. It says my username or
password is wrong. I then login locally and disjoin from domain before
joining back to domain. However i could not join the domain. It says invalid
username or password. But i am sure i used the correct domain administrator
account and password. Has this something to do with cached credentials issue?
If so, will removing cached credentials solve the issue? How can i remove
cached credential without setting the gpo on my DC so that other users can
continue to use cached credentials. Thks in advance.

- Windows XP >> SP2 Group Policy Configured Firewall switches back to Domain profile!I have a laptop that I recently enabled group policy firewall settings
for. The Policy works fine in nearly every way, except, when you
connect the laptop to ANY network. It automatically goes into domain
mode again. I tested it on another unlinked switch (just to activate a
connection) and sure enough the firewall turns off!
I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to HOW windows
determines if it is or is not on the domain? To me, if you have not
logged onto the domain, you should clearly not be using the domain
profile. Does not seem to work this way however...

fine until the first reboot, then the message reappears. I am completely
stumped as to how this message can continue to appear with virtually every

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Runner Error upon bootingWhen initially booting, I get a rectangular box, with Runner Error, on a blue background. Inside the next bos is the message, "Invalid BACKWEB application id "137903"". I must either click on the "X" by Runner Error, or on the OK box at the bottom. What cures this? What initially caused it? Had this since about 3 weeks after purchase.

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Change default location for project files? In MM2, is it possible to change the default location for saving project
files?
It appears to be permanently set to C:\....\My Videos, and I want to save
all my projects on my E drive, and in a folder called Projects. I have to
navigate to that folder every time I create / save a project. (I find "My
Videos" too general a name and I like to split my work into separate folders
i.e. Captured Video, Projects, Saved Movies).
I know how to change the default for temp files but that is not the issue.
My query concerns only Project files.

- Windows XP Security >> Internet Explorer OR Outlook Express Virus? or What?Hi All!
A program automatically launches a site ("w.xx.gigan.to" where 'xx' is the
letters that I can't recall) and start to download a CAB file using Internet
Explorer. I tried to close it and a message box appear "You must choose yes
to install". So I didn't click anything and I shut down the Internet
Explorer using Task Manager.
And it didn't go away because I can see the movement in network activity. So
I disable the LAN. That's when I got a dialog box asking which connection I
want to use to connect to the Internet because 'you' or a program requested
information from <<site>>. Sorry guys I was really panicked and didn't
recorded the site address. But as far as I recall it is: "w.xx.gigan.to"
where 'xx' is the letters that I can't recall. That site also as one line of
text saying "If you are happy....you are a prick" or something like that. By
looking at this, we can concluded that this is a Trojan right? Showing
something interesting (or something that you need time to figure out) in
front of you and start messing up with your computer at the back.
So I start System Restore and I restore it to a previous point and when it
start to shut Windows down, Outlook Express ask a message box "Are you sure
you want to terminate this download?". That's when I concluded that the
virus might have entered (or still entering) to my computer through Outlook
Express. But it could also be thought Internet Explorer or any thing else
for that matter. I can't say for sure. After System Restore , my computer is
ok now.
Another strange thing to note is that this incident happened after I
rebooted my computer after running a security update from Microsoft for
Download.Ject virus detection and removal, which can be accessed via:
http://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/Download_Ject.mspx
Anybody happen to experience similar incident like mine? Or am I the only
one?
My computer has...
- Internet Explorer 6
- Outlook Express 6
- Windows XP SP1
Please, could anyone suggest what on earth is happening to my computer?
Thanks in advance!

- Windows XP Hardware >> CD-Drive Problems, (post #2)Two are listed below.
WRITTEN BY: RANDY (AUG 29 2004 4:08AM PDT)
I have a remarkably similar problem in that I just
installed an Artec 16x DVD-ROM drive with a Plexwriter
8/4/32A CD-RW already in use. My bios detects both drives
fine as does Windows XP, but the DVD-ROM only worked at
first install; and after that (even though detected) will
not read ANY disks. Windows XP reports 'no device
conflicts' and 'This device is working properly', but
that
is not true with the DVD-ROM (the CD-RW reads disks
fine).
I've tried multiple primary and secondary IDE connection
and jumper configurations with the same results; I even
went out and bought a PCI Ultra ATA IDE controller card,
put only the DVD-ROM over to it, and it WORKED!
Unfortunately, it only worked the first time (as before),
and after the next computer boot up, again can no longer
read ANY disks. Both drives reported fine by Win XP w/no
conflicts. HERE'S THE KICKER: IF I DISABLE THE CD-RW IN
WINDOWS DEVICE MANAGER, THE DVD-ROM STARTS WORKING FINE!
All my drivers are up to date. It appears there is some
sort of conflict between the drives, but it is beyond me
to figure out how to get both them to work at the same
time. I've tried all possible separations on the IDE
cables (and the PCI card), but that only results in one
or
the other device stopping working. Please, can someone
help me get both drives working at the same time?
