- Windows XP >> Need FREE multi-desktop prg please. Suggestions?Hello. I cannot find a free program that permits multi-desktops and also
allows for control of the taskbar. I have already searched Download.com.
While that site has two prgs, neither allows the user to have his own
taskbar. Anybody have any suggestions?

- Windows XP Setup >> Undisclosed Change in MUI?I ask this for the following reasons.
A: We're a multi-national that routinely deploys MUI packages.
B: We've gone from W2K to XP SP1, with minor SP2 deployments.
C: We deploy English and Japanese MUI configurations.
D: We've stayed stable on the same version of Lotus for several years. 5.0.5
Here's whats happening now:
In Lotus when creating an attachment that the OS explorer window see in
Kanji, Notes now states "File cannot be found" when creating the attachment.
Renaming the File into English allowing attachment to be created. A problem
when going to a reciepient that cannot read English.
Also in Lotus now, Email Created internally in Kanji can be sent and read by
other internal clients. Email created internally in Kanji can be read by
users external to our environment. Email created in Kanji externally cannot
be read internally in Kanji. So users externally who cannot read or write in
English cannot communicate to our environment. A Very Big issue.
Attempted solutions
XP SP1 Fully patched
XP SP2 Fully patched
Office 2000
Office 2003
Local Client installs of Notes of a pure Japanese Client
Local Client installs of Notes of a pure English Client with Unicode enabled
and all fonts set to MS Gothic.
Shared Server Client with Unicode enabled and all fonts set to MS Gothic.
This issue also only appears when the regional settings of the machine for
the user are set to Japanese as the primary environment.
I sat in the Concierge chat and unfortunately, no documentation can be found.
Has there been a change? RIS installs arent available to me at the moment
due to Broadcom NIC issues, SATA Driver issues etc on our images.

programs, the text does not get deleted. Also, when I
highlight text and then type new letters or such, the
highlighted text is not replaced by what I am typing. I am
positive I used to be able to do this. This problem arose
about two weeks ago on my computer and a friends at about
the same time. Is this some small time virus or hacker
prank? Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks,

- Windows XP >> lost category viewHi
I will try to explain the problem more clearly. When I
click the path: Start>Control Panel, I get a window with
the control options listed in list mode in the right
column and in the left which is blue I only get the "See
Also" drop down option. There used to be another drop
down above this one with "category view" as an option,
but this no longer appears.
I did not know it could be turned off. How do I retrieve
it?

- Windows XP Support >> SP2 Install errors!!!!!!!Hi Guys,
Was just wondering if anyone could give me some pointers in
determining what the problem/solution is to my issue with installing
sp2.
I had to a repair install of xp as I suffered some suspect sys file
corruption after HW upgrade. Installation went fine but only came with
SP1. Obtained SP2 and it bugs out with error message about 3/4 way
through install (when doing cleanup) If I restart without removing sp2
XP will enter a reboot loop on presentation of desktop.
Any ideas at interpreting below log files?
Cheer for any help.

- Windows XP >> GMT causing machine to slow downI have a box running XP Pro. The machine is very
sluggish when performing local tasks as well as network
related tasks. I noticed that a process called GMT is
using 5-10 % of the processor utilization. When I kill
the process, the machine functions much better.
What is the GMT process and is it necessary?
TIA

Windows XP Setup >> Installing Newly Purchased Windows XP Over Existing Install
I have a custom made PC with a legal install of Windows XP Pro, but no image
is stored on the HDD nor do I have the CD. Can I simply install a new
purchase (new activation key) over the existing install without problems? Or
can I run Chkdisk and SFC using the new purchase CD without installing it?

Youre best bet is to boot from xp cd,at info screen select, install xp,new
copy,
delete partition, create one, then let xp reformat and install.

- Windows XP >> How to Add ShortCut Icon to System TrayCould you please advise me to how to Add a shortcut icon to system tray
(notification area), just near the time watch display.
I found some third party software to do this, but the condition of the third
party software is that the software must be there, if we remove their
software it will not view that shortcut icon in the system tray.
My requirement is that is there any coding method OR some set up changing
method in windows XP, so that I will be able to do so.
Please advise .

- Windows XP Security >> Auto Defrag ScriptI am looking for a way to incorporate an auto defrag into the shutdown/logoff

defrag c: -f
(forces defrag of C:\)
My problem is that when I reboot or logoff, it takes forever. Now this is
not a problem at the end of the day, but during the day I can't have it.
Is there a way to have the cmd window appear when the script runs so that I
can just close it out if I don't want it to run?

- Windows XP >> XP doesn't find hard driveHello-
I used Drive Image 7 to copy the computer's hard drive to
a new drive. The data appears to have transferred
properly. Both drives (master & slave)show the same files
and folders in Explorer). I then remove the original
(master) drive , set the new drive to master and reboot.
The drive is reported correctly in the system's BIOS. But
after the Dell splash screen, I get the message that it
can't find a drive.
I put in the XP Pro CD and booted from it to the Recovery
Console. I ran CHKDSK and the drive was found and had no
errors. I then entered FIXMBR and it successfully wrote
the boot record. I tried FIXBOOT and received the message
that a drive could not be found. I'm stumped. Any
suggestions are most welcome. Thank you.
