Windows XP >> Getting data from old system I have a new PC with XP Home. My old machine was an W98. I thought if I just
put the Old HD into the new machine I could then transfer the data..
However, even though BIOS recognizes the second HD and XP-HOME Drive
Management sees a Drive 0 and Drive 1. I can not assign a drive letter to
Drive 1 so that I can copy files. This HD has FAT32 on it... What am I
missing?

administrator. Then rt.
click on the folder> properties> security tab> advanced
button> owner tab
Select the account you want to get ownership, check the
box to
replace owner on subcontainers and objects and click
apply.

Windows XP >> Getting data from old system This answer in no way answers my questions. My first issue is being able to
assign a drive letter to the drive.

Windows XP >> Getting data from old system Do you have both hard drives on the same cable?
You shouldn't have to assign a drive letter.

Windows XP >> Getting data from old system Yes, they are both on the same cable and jumpered for CS. Again, they show
up in XP Drive Manager, but the old Win98 drive has NO drive letter and
option to assign one. The only option is to delete the partition. It is
showing as FAT32(Active), and is the only partition on the HD.

Windows XP >> Getting data from old system Assuming you're talking about "Disk Management" under Control
Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management, point mouse to the hard disc
and right click, you will see the option for Change Drive Letters and Paths.
Select it and change to the drive letter.

Not sure if Home is the same as Pro but this is how to get to disk
management in pro.

Good luck

Windows XP >> Getting data from old system That option is NOT enabled. The only available option is DELETE PARTITION.
