Windows XP Setup >> XP Home won't boot... I did a new install of XP Home (upgrade edition) and it
apparently completed with no problems and no errors
generated. The machine fails to boot, however, hanging
up on the XP splash screen. I tried Safe Mode, get the
menu, but booting stops after listing a few dozen file
names.

The install was repeated several times, all with same
result. My final attempt included repartitioning C: and
using the (slow) NTFS formatting option.

I'm out of ideas...

Windows XP Setup >> XP Home won't boot... Karl, go into the Bios and set to Optimal or Fail Safe Mode. Disable
bios virus protection. Disconnect
everything you don't need for Installation. Make sure the hard drive is
set a Master on the Primary IDE
channel by itself. Have the Cdrom drive as master on the secondary ide
channel.
