- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Maximum Program Run sizeHello
Does anyone know if I can increase the maximum program
size without increasing physical memory.
I try to run a .exe which bring up "Program Too Big for
Memory" message.
I have been into DOS and carried out mem cmd, and it says
the maximum program size is about 613 MB. The program I
want to run is about 630MB. Is there a tweak I can make
to run this program? Although it is an .exe, it will an
unzip program. Once unzipped, I can work with it easily.

update shows a red X and tells me to try again later, this

not know how to reinstall live update on its own. The
information book that comes with Norton shows how to
reinstall the whole package, by disc, but the message
states just re-install Live Update. Please help.

- Windows XP Setup >> Tranfer wizardNew to networking
I now have Wxp and Wme PC hooked up using CAT5e crossover

1. Am trying to transfer a single test folder and single
test document from Wme to Wxp PC. The test doc gets
tranferred but so do a lot of settings.I have selected
files only option and also used the advanced function to
select specific files but it still takes several min. to
transfer a 2kb wordpad document. Whats going on?
2. I did not setup or configure any networking
connections on either PC. Did the F&S Transfer Wizard do
it automatically?
Thank you

- Windows XP >> Windows Media Player and Canon i550 Printer crashesI very often encounter a problem while using my Windows
Media Player. The sound totaly disconnect if I open a new
software such as Word or Excel and even if I open
Internet Explorer.
As well, my Canon i550 Printer crashes often but not all
the time, when trying to print something.
In both cases, I get a message from Windows asking me if
I want to register the problem. I do not why they ask me
this since they never got back to me with a solution.
I have also spent $30.00 for on a PC Doctor On Call
software hoping that it would solve the problem. In vain.
Can anyone please help me and tell me how to rectify this
annoying situation?
Thanks

- Windows XP >> ACCESS DENIED \\*computer name here* is not accessible. You may...I have 4 computers on my network. All of them are desktop computers. They are
connected through a linksys router and have worked fine for quite a while.
One day, one of the computers just dissapeared from the network. It was then
labled *network path not found* even though the workgroup view still sees the
computer.
This is not the problem that I am asking about however.
Later, after I had to redo another one of our computers, the network
automatically found all the computers in the workgroup view. It could only
connect though to 1 of the computers. The most stable out of the computers,
not redone at all, was working fine and all the 3 computers could
communitcate (except for the prob discribed above) with each other. Then,
when I noticed the folder for the main computer was gone, I opened the
workgroup view and clicked on the computer. Now, I get the following errors
for each pc.
PC 1 error: \\*name* s not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the adminsistrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions.
The network path was not found.
(end of error 1)
PC 2 error: \\*name* s not accessible. You might not have permission to use
this network resource. Contact the adminsistrator of this server to find out
if you have access permissions.
Access is Denied.
(end of error 2)
I have no idea what is wrong. Usually the network automatically fixes itself
when the access denied problem arises, but it hasent yet at all. And the
network path lost error has been around for quite a while for me now. How do
I fix these problems?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

- Windows XP Hardware >> ms-dos program com port not readyMy MS-DOS program writes to COM1 (it sends a short string
for opening a cash drawer attached to COM1). When run in
Windows XP, it always responds 'not ready'. A technical
colleague investigated and says that both DTR and CTS
lines are reported to an MS-DOS program running under
Windows XP as "low" even when they are "high". My MS-DOS
program is from a third party, so there is no way I can
alter it (eg to have not bother checking the COM1 port
status before sending the Open string). How can I get
this program to work properly in Windows XP?

Make sure you have your product key available and that the copy of XP

- Windows XP Network >> Getting XP to see W98's internetDear All,
I apologise if this question seems to add to the redundacy of many
topics, but I have looked at many (and followed their links) on this
subject but none answer my question or work.
We have a W98 machine that is connected to a (BT) broadband internet
connection, and I wish to share with my XP. We think that W98 is the
first edition, is this going to cause a problem?
I have tried to network them by using the wizard on my XP machine, it
seemed successful, as W98 can see my shared files, although XP cannot
access the shaed files on W98, although it can 'see' it my network
computers. Does this mean that they are not networked fully, or is it
some permissions field that I cannot find on W98? Also there is no
luck with sharing the internet connection from W98.
Any thoughts? Will it be easier if I connect the broadband modem to
the XP, although I'd rather keep the set up as is and get that
working.
Many thanks

- Windows XP Hardware >> USB / Code 10 / Palm / 810400Without warning, my Palm PDA refused to synchronize. I
believe I unplugged the device as is discussed in MS
Article 810400 as there were 2 USB devices cascaded to the
docking replicator at the time.
I've installed the 810400 package but the Hardware Manager
still reports a Code 10 error (The device cannot start.)
Sony is no help but it looks like a hardware problem to me.
The Device Manager still reports an Error 10 and the Palm
Handheld is using a driver dated 01/15/2001 as I can't
find a newer (XP?) version. I can't tell that the Q810400
self-extracting application did anything.
Suggestions about how to fix Error 10 problems, USB
devices, Palm PDAs, Article 810400, etc are welcomed.

- Windows XP Support >> Multiple Instances of Task ManagerFor the past few weeks my system has been freezing with indications of
massive hard drive activity. Since I am unable to do anything on the system
when this happens, my only recourse has ben to power down and re-start.
Today I decided to wait as long as it took to regain control.
What I found was that there were multiple instances of Task Manager running

Can anyone provide guidance to resolve this issue?
