- Windows XP >> Wndows update choicesCan someone answer these questions please?
- Is the "Microsoft Core XML Services (MSXML)" update critical and really
necessary for all Windows users? Why? I read the description and I didn't
understand it well enough to make a choice. I just use my PC for email,
photo editing, specialied shopping and scientific information. Not too
happy to keep adding XP updates unless they are really useful to the kind of
user I am.
- I still have IE6. Again I have read on updating to IE7 and do not see too
much of a gain in updating unless I am not aware of special benefits.
Please comment, I always learn from responses here.
Thanks, Joan

- Windows XP >> Cannot see all properties on Summary tab on File Properties seen from explorer.Hi,
We have proprietary file which is structured storage one. We store all
standard property sets such as summary information property set. When
I see File Properties from explorer on Win2k OS, I see all Summary
properties under Advanced->Origin.
When I see file properties for the same file from explorer on WinXP
OS, then I cannot see all summary properties under Advanced->Origin. I
see only Source, Author and Revision Number.
What could be the possible reason? Is there any way to show all
properties on XP?
Thanks and Regards,

- Windows XP Hardware >> RED and BLACK USB connector??Hello,
I bought a 4 port sharing USB hub :
it connects 2 computers to 4 USB devices , so you can switch the usb
printer, mouse, flash card,
it's easy : you can write a flash card with PC A and push the switch button
of the flashcard on the hub and it's connected with PC B .
My question is : the hub has no power adapter , but a RED and a BLACK USB-A
connector, but only one USB-B connector, to connect to the hub, for each
connected PC .
Do i need to connect BOTH the RED connectors to the 2 PC's or is 1 enough ??
can anybody explain me how this works having 2 connectors at one end of the
USB cable??
thanks paul
the red is for power supply and the black is for data.

- Windows XP Security >> Norton Anti-virus Auto-protect not functioningI have installed the Norton Utilities 2003, including Norton anti-virus in
both systems WinME & WinXP. But the auto-protect is not functioning.
1) I have scanned for anti-virus but no virus was found.
2) I have uninstalled the Norton Utilities 2003 and re-installed. Same case
happens.
Pls suggest what to do.
My computer has been infected with W32.Blaster.Worm and I run FixBlast.exe
to remove the worm - some files are deleted. However, afterwards, it is
found that it is unable to connect to the internet, send/receive e-mail even
though the system shows the broadband line is connected. Even re-install the
Windows, the problem still there. I would like to know how to solve the
problem. How to find out what files have been deleted?

- Windows XP Support >> Error when scheduling backubHi all,
I'm experiencing a problem when scheduling a backup with the
ntbackup.exe utility in windows xp professional.
After having set the preferences in the schedule dialog, the program
asks me for a password, but I don't use a password so I leave it blank.
After that, an error is displayed:
0x80070005: Acces denied
What's the cause of this problem?
Thanks in advance

Just an observation, but I dumped the XP themes in favor of the "classic"
view, and the time that it takes to boot up the system has decreased by
about half.

- Windows XP Support >> XP default driver for camera - how to bypass?Hi all
I was stupid enough to hook up my new Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20 camer
to my computer before I installed the software - now the compute
treats the camera as a movable storage medium (F-disk) using
default XP driver. XP will not let me install the original driver
"there is no need to install a driver, the current one works fine" o
something along those lines. Does anybody know how to bypass th
default driver and install the proper one? Thanks

With concern on this worm poza and blast whatever it is

patches for winXP. there's the 32bit and the 64bit

question. it just told me that I'm using version 5.1 buld
2600 xpsp ( a load of numbers) Service pack 1. I'm using
the Pro version of XP. I don't know which patch to
download. is it the 32bit or 64bit?

- Windows XP Support >> Do I really need an LAN connection?Since an in-shop repair, I've had an LAN connection set up on my XP Home
computer, in addition to an Ethernet connection for my DSL. The tech tells
me that XP automatically sets up the LAN and that it is necessary in order
for my DSL connection to work. I'm a single user with no other network
connected.
Well, the DSL works fine. Maybe I should be content.
But...could someone please tell me if the tech was blowing smoke or maybe
was misguided.
TIA.
