- Windows XP Hardware >> Will XP install with no problems on this system?I am using XP home on my HP 2.8 gig notebook but I want to upgrade or
do a fresh install of my desktop system. It consists of and Asus
A7N8X-deluxe motherboard, AMD XP 3200+ 400fsb CPU, ATI Radeon 9800 pro, 256
meg videocard.
Does XP have the nforce chipset drivers etc? Or will I need to keep the
driver disks handy? Should I use XP home or Pro?
Thank you.

- Windows XP Support >> How to solve "Unlock Computer" problemI'm running 3 Windows XP Pro computers in a home/office environment. Two of
the systems (B and C) are in another area for the office so I usually access
them via Remote Desktop.
Occasionally one of these systems (computer B) will display a dialog box
with the title Unlock Computer. Inside the box it says "This computer is in
use and has been locked" It shows the user name and a blank window for the
PW which I must enter.
This only happens on this one computer. What's the cause and how do I
correct it? Suggestions greatly appreciated.
Note - I'm the only person using all computers.

- Windows XP Setup >> Backup is way too hugeHey Guys,
I have a external HD of 80G. Less than 10G is being utilized. When I try to
back it up, it tells me that the backup is too big for the volume. What is
making it so huge?
When I backup my C drive - 24G in a 60G HD - I get the same message. It says
the backup is 48+G, which it cannot handle. I'm sure I'm doing something
wrong but can't seem to figure out what it is.
Thaks for any help

- Windows XP >> Problem: Files have become foldersI had a small problem with my hard drive and all the files have been copied
to a new drive. Now I find some of the files have become folders. I cannot

So now I have lost my data. These folders are stuck there and won't move.
How can I tell them they are files or at least delete them?

- Windows XP Support >> Outlook Express Wizard, or Manual Transfer?Has anyone used this, and any comments?:
http://www.outlook-express-backup.com/index.html
I sort of hate to use something (if only once) that I am not going to buy
for continued use.
Or, should I go here?
http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/clone.htm
I'm doing a clean install (repartition, etc.) of XPHome from Dell's
reinstall CD on my laptop. My OE has only one identity. If I use the
instructions at insideoutlookexpress, I would make the backup on the
laptop's drive, and then copy to a USB external drive, wipe the laptop
drive, reinstall XP on the laptop drive, and then move the outlook
express backup back from the USB external drive to the laptop.
In the past, I've just saved out (exported) the dbx and address book,
then moved back to the reinstalled Outlook Express on the laptop.
I'm doing this for my daughter, and I don't want to mess up.
Thanks,
Bruce

- Windows XP Setup >> Formatting drive before upgrading to XP ProMy Win98 PC has virus "issues" and I would like to
completely format my drive before upgrading to XP Pro.
How can I do this? I run through the XP "new install"
option when installing XP but when it's done I still have
files/folders left over from my previous Win98
installation. I want to completely erase everything from
this drive so I have a fresh starting point for XP.
I don't know how to reformat a drive?
If I do, will my CD drive recognize the XP disk or do I
need to worry about copying CD drivers?

- Windows XP Setup >> MONEYMake Money Fast:
Here's the idea. It is perfectly legal for you to send
someone money and vice-versa, as long as you, or the
other party, is performing or providing some type of
service or product. You ask to be put on this "mailing
list" for a fee, and in return, when your name is
circulating on the list, you will recieve $ (1.00, 5.00,
whatever) from each person, who wants to ask to be put on
your "mailing list". Let me tell you, if you can add,
this seems to me like a pretty darn easy way to make a
load of cash.
Step 1:
Mail $ (any amount from $1.00 to $5.00 works great) and a
paper with the the words "Please add me to your mailing
list" to:
1. Steve Ferguson
1076 Mystic Lane
Troy, OH,USA
45373
2. Heath Ward
PO Box 2027
Dodge City, KA, USA
67801
3. Matthew Kulbacki
1025 12th Street
Golden, CO,USA
80401
4. Tenneal Sullivan
5330 US HWY 45 South
Oshkosh, WI, USA
54902
5. Sarah Tafoya
PO Box 221
Tryon, NC, USA
28782
Step 2:
Move the top name from the list and move all the other
names up one space. Put your name and address in place of
the fifth one.
Step 3:
Post the article to at least 200 news groups. There are
at least 17,000 newsgroups at any given moment in time.
Try posting to as many newsgroups as you can. Remember,
the more groups you post to, the more people will see
your article and send you cash.
Step 4:
Sit back and relax in about 7-14 days you should see the
cash flowing on in!
This is simply too easy and fool-proof to be a scam.

- Windows XP >> CD Burning ProblemsHi All,
I have noticed that there is an error I get when I am usually burning
pdf files.
I do collect lots of pdf files, either as ebooks...or articles or
journals...and when I try to burn the folder that contains those files,
I get errors...
sometimes those errors say that the "content have changed" (even though
there was no activity on my computer)...some other times I read (error
writing to disc)...
what could be the problem? and more importantly what is the solution...
I have noticed that I only get those messages with the pdf files...not
all of them..but some are troublesome.
I would appreciate your help...

- Windows XP Security >> Disableing printing and installing with passwordI was wondering what I might have to do to disable the
ability to install stuff on a computer. I am runing
windows XP pro. A lot of people tend to use this
computer and recently I had to just format the 2 hard
drives because people installed unreal amount of crud
that did not need to be there. I am the computer
admin so I would have full access to anything I need
to get to. Also it sure would be nice if I could
password the printer too. Got people useing up all my
ink printing porn. Either reply here if if you want
you could e-mail me at daddyburgi@burgi-family.net.
Thank you for your time and your thoughts.
~side note
I would be willing to creat a login name and password for each person
that uses the computer if need be. Because there are a few people here
that would be allowed to install and or print.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Right-Click SLOW post SP2I've read all the other posts regarding this issue without much success.
Would appreciate any help that could be offered:
Since SP2, right-click on anyfile on desktop and menu takes ~45 sec to
display. Also double-click on any file on desktop and takes ~45 sec to lauch
associated application (near instantaneous launch of file if launch via
file->open from within the app.
Used ShellExView (per other posts). Only Context Menu items that are
non-microsoft are mcafee virusscan enterprise, real scheduler, and Photoshop.
Disabling each individually or all together does not correct the issue.
Even diabling the MS context menus for media player 10 (the only microsoft
ones that don't specifically indicate "SP2" in the name) doesn't correct.
Are there other things to troubleshoot besides the "type: context menu" items?
Programs launched on startup only include virusscan, directCD, msnmessenger,
adobe assitant, HP printer drivers, and palm hotsync. None of these
manufacturers admit SP2 probelms.
I'm out of ideas. Please help. Thanks in advance!

- Windows XP Hardware >> "Serious Error" on startupI have a system that we have just reinstalled WinXP Home SP1 onto. Clean
install, only needed to salvage some documents and internet favorites.
System is a white box, with a Gigabyte GA-7ZXE board, with an Athlon 1400
CPU. While I had the system here, ran beautifully. Attached was an HP K60,
and standard PS/2 keyboard and mouse. Returned to owner, who has the MS
Internet USB Keyboard.
After installing the keyboard in safe mode, we now get a Serious Error has
occured screen just after the system seems to stabilize within XP. The
details are as follows:
BCCode: 1000007e
BCP1: C0000005
BCP2: 804EDBDB
BCP3: F8BFFAA8
BCP4: F8BFF7A8
OSVer: 5_1_2600
SP: 1_0
Product: 768_1
I cannot find any details within this screen to indicate what specifically
is generating this message. It just started appearing after the USB
keyboard was attached. The keyboard seems to be a few years old, so I am
(my bad) assuming XP SP1 knows about it.
What is this error message telling me, other than the obvious?

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> MM2Whenever I attempt to capture video from my camera in the
DV-AVI format, I get an error stating that it was unable
to capture the video. If you look at the MM2 screen, it

I can capture video without problems in the 320X240 pixel

- Windows XP >> Backing up Windows XP ProI want to backup my data to a writable DVD player I just
purchased. I read in the on-line support that the Windows
backup utility does not recognize a CD-R or a DVD-R as a
valid writable storage device for reasons I can't
remember, something about the O/S not being able to
format the media. Anyway my question is this; if I were
to make a backup of C and store it as a file on drive D
can I then send it to my DVD and use it to restore my
system if the need should present itself or would restore
not recognize my DVD-R as a valid restore device? I guess
I could always wite the file back to D and go from there.
I just want to make sure I'm thinking about this the
right way or should I say the WRITE way.

- Windows XP >> Network usageI have a XP Home comupter, and one day I left tast manager running when I
was away from my desk. When I came back, I opened task manager to the

Does anybody know what would cause this? I have DSL over my network.

- Windows XP >> Set an Environment Var from the output of a programI have a program called nbmac.exe (http://www.kostis.net/freeware/nbmac.zip)
that will give you the MAC of your workstation. I'm wanting to take this
output and set an environment variable but I can't seem to figure out how?
FYI - Here's what I'm trying to do overall: We are setting up roaming
profiles and the problem is when a use sits a some other workstation they
aren't mapped to correct network printer. Therefore I want to write a logon
script that sets the MAC address in an environment variable so I can run it
through a list if IF statements so I can map specific machines to specific
network printers. Make sense?
