indicates that i have way too many dll's missing or

- Windows XP Setup >> XP Home won't boot...I did a new install of XP Home (upgrade edition) and it
apparently completed with no problems and no errors
generated. The machine fails to boot, however, hanging
up on the XP splash screen. I tried Safe Mode, get the
menu, but booting stops after listing a few dozen file
names.
The install was repeated several times, all with same
result. My final attempt included repartitioning C: and
using the (slow) NTFS formatting option.
I'm out of ideas...

it kept messing up. I have no idea what it could be. In
the error report it said something about a minidump. I

- Windows XP >> Desktop larger than window above 1024x768 resolution - Help!I am running XP Home edition on a 1.6 GHz Intel based machine with 512
Meg. The integrated video is an SIS 661FX_M661FX_M661MX with 32 Megs of
memory. When I try to increase video resolution above 1024x768, the
desktop area exceeds the size of the window area and mouse scrolling is
enabled. This is undesirable in some situations. Is there any way to
control the virtual desktop size in XP with regard to screen
resolution?
I have researched all of the usual resources, google more search terms
than I care to remember and found very little information on the
subject. Can anyone here help?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> BSOD constantly!I have been trying to deal with this problem for about 6 months. I am at my
wits end! Hopefully someone can help me. I am not super computer saavy but
can follow dirctions!
Randomly, my computer goes to the BSOD. It could be immediately after it
boots up and I get my desktop, or while on the net or working on a program.
No rhyme nor reason.
I suspect that it is a bad driver but have no idea how to figure out which
one. I have stripped the computer down to just the CPU, monitor keyboard and
mouse and it still happens.

Windows XP >> CMD will not run properly
You may have a trojan/virus/worm.
Are you using cmd.exe or cmd.com?
cmd.com is *NOT* an XP file. This is a file that gets added by a
trojan/virus/worm.
What happens if you type: cmd.exe in Start | Run instead of cmd?
What happens if you type: ping.exe 192.168.1.100 instead of ping
192.168.1.100?
Does regedit open if you type: regedit in Start | Run?
Update your antivirus software and run a complete scan.
Update whatever anti-spyware applications that you have and run a full
system scan with each one.
Also Known As: W32.Alcan.A, Win32.Alcan.A [Computer Associates],

W32/Alcra-A [Sophos], WORM_ALCAN.A [Trend Micro]
[[This worm drops the legitimate file compression DLL, BSZIP.DLL in the
Windows system folder. It does this so it can compress itself. It also drops
the following files in the Windows system folder:

TASKKILL.COM
TASKLIST.COM
TRACERT.COM
These files contain the string MZ so that this worm can disable the
following Windows tool applications:

PING.EXE

TASKKILL.EXE
TASKLIST.EXE

Your machine is most likely infected with spyware or
with a virus. It placed some garbage commands on your
PC that are now invoked instead of the real thing. How
good is your virus protection?
Have a look the folders c:\Windows and c:\Windows\System32.
You will most likely find some files such as cmd.com or ping.com.
Get rid of them - the correct commands are cmd.exe and ping.exe.

Not necessarily. The bogus files may be duds but they
may not be infected with a virus, in which case your virus
scanner may not detect them. Get rid of them manually!

Windows XP >> CMD will not run properly
Because 192.168.1.100 is probably an intranet address on a home network not
an internet address.
[[Private Addresses
There are also blocks of IP addresses that are set aside for internal
private use for computers not directly connected to the Internet. These IP
addresses are not supposed to be routed through the Internet, and most
service providers will block the attempt to do so. These IP addresses are
used for internal use by company or home networks that need to use TCP/IP
but do not want to be directly visible on the Internet. These IP ranges are:
192.168.0.0 through 192.168.255.255 ]]

- Windows XP >> XP not allowing share by nameI have 2 XP Pro machines on a home network.
The hub is a Netgear MR814 Wireless router.
In the past I had been able to share files using each machines name but
periodically this ability would go away.
I would correct the situation by using system restore.
However due to some recent software problems I lost all my restore points
and can not go back to using the machine names to address in file sharing.
This was an anyoying process anyway to use SR.
Does anyone know why I would not be able to address the PC's by name and
what I could do to permanently fix the problem?
Here is the status on the system to help diagnose the problem
Network adabpters on both machines have
1 Client for Microsoft Networks
2 File and Print Sharing
3. TCP/IP Protocol
Network adapters on both PCs are set to obtain IP automatically and I have
tried both "Enabling Netbios" and "Default Netbios" settings
Each machine has a unique name and is on the same workgroup
Each machine has a reserved IP address on the router
Each machine has internet access

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> No Video Transitions for some peopleHi, I administer a network in a school.
When logged in with Administrator rights, I have all the
Vido Transitions, and Video Effects available to me.
When a user logs in, without Administrator rights, they get
no Transitions, and only two effects.
Am I right in thinkin the transitions are kept in dlls in
system32 directory?
Everyone has read access to this folder, and I tried giving
Full access to this folder on my PC, but that didn't help.
How do I get everyone all the transitions?
Thanks

- Windows XP Setup >> Can I restrict access to CD write capability?I'm wondering if there is a way for me to control which users have the
capability to write to a CD. I want them to be able to read, but not write.
I need control over the actual CD Drive, not any specific CD. Is there a way
to do this in XP Pro, and if so, how?
I've used a piece of software called DeviceLock in the past, but it has one
glaring flaw: While I can, in theory, allow read but not write via
DeviceLock, if an unauthorized user opens up the EasyCD Creator application,
it just bypasses the DeviceLock controls and lets them create a CD.
Thanks,
Jewels
