- Windows XP Setup >> 2 "administrators" - can I junk one?Another "how do i get rid of that damn startup password"
question again, but this time with a interesting twist!
Here's my situation:
I have 2 users, the "Administrator" and another, with
administrator rank. I'm the only one who uses the
machine, and want to disable the startup password.
Here's the problem:
I think I can do this by removing the secondary
administrator and just letting it boot up as the default
admin (is this what it does it the login screen time's
out?). BUT... I have all my settings, firewall program
access issues (ie: AIM won't start unless i log in with
my startup password), etc etc under the secondary user
(my name, with admin status). When I skip the password
screen, or let it time out, I have all sorts of
problems.
SO, My question:
Since the second user (my name) has full admin status, is
it safe to remove the actual "Administrator" user? If I
do this, will I be able to disable the password screen
and have it load the correct settings? If not, is it
possible to transfer all the settings for the second
administrator and junk it, and then run only as the
primiary Administrator?
I know this is a very "special" situation I've gotten
myself into, so anyone who has the knowledge and the
time... your thoughts are WELCOME!
Thanks!

- Windows XP >> Offline foldersHi,
There are a couple of folders which i have setup as offline to enable me to
take the files on my laptop when i go home.
But i find some files not included in the offline content. Particularly
Access (.mdb) files and some accounting files (.500) files which are
important in my work.
Is there any way to include these files also in the offline files
synchronised?
Thanks

- Windows XP Support >> Deleting a Wireless Network ConnectionHELP HELP I desperately need some help here. Somehow, a new wireless network
connection got created on my laptop I use at home so that I can access the
internet from anywhere in my house via a Netgear router that's connected to
the main computer in my office. I need to know how to delete this network.
I've searched everywhere in help and support, faq's, everything I could think
of. All that I could find was info on how to delete the entire wireless
network connections folder. If I do that, I will lose my network connection
which I have no idea how to set it back up. It got screwed up once before and
it took me 3 days and a lot of time on the telephone to get it going again.
All help will be very much appreciated.

- Windows XP Network >> Accessing shared folder on XP Pro machine from XP Home machineHi, I'm having trouble getting from Home to shared folders on XP - I can't
see the computer under the "view workgroup computers" but I can access it via
typing in the IP address under Run. My main issue is setting up security so
that only certain users can, from across the network, get to certain shared
folders. I've setup the usernames and passwords, and limited the shared
folders to those certain users, but when I try to access them remotely, I
don't get a prompt to enter in a username and password, and I'm just denied
access outright. How can I cure this?
Many, many thanks for your help!

- Windows XP Support >> My Memory is Like Quicksand!I have a situation that is plaguing and perplexing me. The simple
explanation is this:
Stuff gets stuck in memory.
It is now an everyday occurrence that some application or module that is
supposed to run and then go away doesn't go away. Sometimes it's a splash
screen for an application launching, sometimes it's a media player, and
other times it's a full-blown application. The one that fails me with 100%
consistency is the Adobe License Manager, adobelmvsc.exe, which kicks in
three minutes after a PDF file is opened and is supposed to check for a
legitimate license (which I have) and then go away. It never goes away.
iTunes frequently gets stuck, and several others are culprits.
When these programs or processes get stuck, there is no amount of prying in
Task Manager that can remove them. And because they refuse to release, the
Shutdown, Restart, or Logoff procedures hang in perpetuity.
As far as I know, the only recourse is to power-cycle, which I now do
multiple times per day.
I'd love to get to the bottom of this, but I don't really know where to
start. Any ideas...?

- Windows XP >> IE Open in New Window doesn't work.Hi,
My 2nd PC has WINXP SP1A and IE6 SP1 installed.
It works great except if I attempt to Right Click on a URL to open in a new
window - nothing happens, I just get a partialy drawn blank window. The same
happens when a webpage tries to open a new window. I don't have a Pop Up
Blocker or anything.
Any ideas on how to fix this? I've searched the Knowledge base but can't
find a fix.
Thanks,
Graham.

- Windows XP Security >> Event 59 XP Pro sp2 SideBySide errorsI am attempting to clean up after a failed sp2 application. The box now
works as a result of assigning the acount EVERYONE full control over the
System32 folder. I realize this is a poor security practice but the only
alternative would be to trash the build and start over from scratch. First
the environment. The box is a client of an SBS2000 network running XP Pro
sp2, ISA Firewall Client and the Symantec Antivirus Corporate Edition 9.0
antivirus client. It has an AMD CPU and 512MB of RAM. Now the problem.
At every boot I find six errors in the Application Event Viewer, all Event
59. These occur in pairs. The first error mentions a dll for which the
Generate Activation Context failed and provides a full path to the dll. The
dll's involved are WININET.DLL, SHELL32.DLL and URLMON.DLL. The exact
messages for the first two of the six appears below. Kindly advise which
folders I need to change the secuerity settings on.

- Windows XP Security >> Running Windows XP on a system with no hard drive?Hi folks
does anyone know if it is possible to run Windows XP on a system
without a hard drive?
I was thinking of creating a 'hard-drive-less-system' running Windows
XP, but does the O/S require one, or can it be run purely from a CD?
Is this type of thing feasible?
Or if you know of any place that sells such a system I would be
interested.

- Windows XP Security >> can't decrypt EFS encrypted filesGreetings everyone,
I have a serious problem, I had encripted files using EFS of Windows XP SP1,
then later on I had troubles with access them, then a friend of mine
converted the partition NTFS to FAT32 and then again to NTFS (using
Partition Magic 7) with a hope that the files would lose their information
that were encripted but, this only made the things worst because, now XP
doesn't recognized them as encripted and they still are encripted, after
this I soon discovered that is possible to create Recovery Agent from a file
with the cipher command - ex. "cipher /r:example.txt", with this certificate
generated by this cipher util, I created a agent user recovery but, since
the XP doesn't know this files are encripted, I tried to force a decrypt
using cipher - "cipher /d /f /a example.txt" - but, still doesn't work,
anyone can help with this huge problem, this files are very important to me,
please. Thanks in advance.
