Windows XP Hardware >> Swap Hard Drives I currently have 2 hardrives C: and D:
My C: contains all my program files as well as my
operating system (XP) and D: contains music etc.

I want to get a new C: and replace the current one. My
question is, how do I transfer everything from my old C:
to my new C: and just install the new one and boot up
straight away?

Please help,
Regards, Dave

Windows XP Hardware >> Swap Hard Drives As mentioned by Pegasus, you can try imaging the drive. There are a
couple other ways as well. There is usually software that comes with the
new harddrive such as MaxBlast for Maxtor drives, SeaTools for Seagates,
etc. If you boot off the CD, there is an option in there to basically
ghost a copy of one drive to another. I would suggest that first. If
that doesn't work, you can install Windows on the new harddrive, boot
off the old install, copy all of the files over the top of the new
install, and then boot to the new install (I wouldn't recommend this
method too mcuh though). Finally, there is the Files and Settings
Transfer utility on your Windows XP CD. This can be found under the
autorun-Additional Options. This will backup all of your data/settings
and then you run it again on a new installation to put all the data back
just as it was before.
