I have a home network of four pc's. Three have Xphome
and one XP pro. They are connected through a linksy
router. On my machine, (one of the xp home) I can see and
access all other shares. The problem is that none of the
others can access mine. I share my cable internet with
all with no problem and all of the others can see and
access each other files. I'm at a loss here. What have I
done on mine that prevents them from accessing? All are
in the same workgroup with different pc names. If I use
view workgroup computers from one of the others mine
shows up but cannot be accessed. Any help will be deeply
appreciated!!

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Windows Update Keeps Installing MDACMy laptop runs Microsoft Update. Each morning for about 3
months it has been trying to install the "Security Update
Microsoft Data Access Components (KB823718)".
The update reports installation as successful. When I
check my install history using the microsoft updates
website it shows multiple successful installs of this
update.
I checked the Microsoft updates troubleshooter webpages
which says to contact microsoft support with my windows
update.log and seupapi.log files ready.
My laptop is a compaq armada and I run updates from
within a LAN. Other updates have occured with no
problems. Any assistance would be appreciated.

- Windows XP Setup >> FILES - Need to Rename Several Files At OnceHi.
XP has a method for renaming a series of files so that they have all the
same name and are then numbered, but I need to do something else, and I'm
not sure how.
I'm converting documents from an old word processor to MSWord and maybe Word
itself can do this, but I was first looking for some kind of system batch
file.
I want to change, for an example,
Monday.JAN
Tuesday.JAN
Wednesday.JAN
to
Monday JAN.DOC
Tuesday JAN.DOC
Wednesday JAN.DOC
That sort of thing. There are hundreds of files and I'm hoping someone
knows of a way to bulk-rename the files that way, rather than having a
folder full of Monday JAN (1).DOC, Monday JAN (2).DOC, and so on.

I've tried clicking the balloon that pops up, but nothing happens. I've also
done a Spyware Scan with Mircosoft Anti-Spyware and it came up with no
results. What should I do?
Also, this may be related somehow. Since this "infection", the task manager
has been disabled by my administrator. However, I am the administrator, and I
never disabled the task manager. What's going on?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Slow XP Pro Anyone else?Hello to anyone else experiencing the same problems I
am. I'm running Windows XP Pro SP1 and have all the
critical updates installed and find that now my computer
takes like 10 minutes to load any software programs, it
does not matter which ones either, Word, Disk
Defragmenter (which I run frequently 2 to 3 times a week)
and any other programs. I can almost go eat dinner and
then come back and the program(s) will then all the
sudden come up? Was wondering why such a delay, with a
good working hard drive and all equipment working
perfectly? Thanks if anyone finds an answer to this
puzzling problem? Will check the CPU usage but it hasn't
been high normally either?

- Windows XP Hardware >> using rundll32.exe to upgrade to multiple CPUshas anyone had any luck automating the installation of
dual CPUs. I have a sysprep image created on a single proc
machine and want to use just one image. When I play the
image back on a dual CPU machine it detects the second CPU
but does not upgrade the HAL. I am running sysprep with
PNP switch.
Any ideas or info is greatly appreciated.

- Windows XP Support >> After SP2 install,all links go to home pageI installed SP2 yesterday. Now, anytime I click on a link, especially if I combine with ctrl (to allow pop-up), I'm taken instead to
my home page (my.msn.com). It also eliminated my panicware utilities from the browser. Is there a simple fix for this?

- Windows XP Security >> XP Home sharing and securityI'm trying to help a friend who has a set of XP Pro
systems in a domain with a Win2003 SBS Server. This
domain (companyname.net) and the PCs in it happen to be on
the same LAN in their office as his wife's business, which
only has 2 PCs, both running XP Home (no domain, just the
workgroup "office"). They need to share a folder between
the 2 PCs running XP Home, but they want to make sure the
share can not be accessed from the other systems that are
part of the companyname.net domain. I know you can boot
the XP Home system in Safe Mode, and gain access to the
full security settings. The problem is, I don't know what
to add or change to make sure only the 2 systems in the XP
Home Workgroup can see the shares, and deny access to the
systems in the companyname.net domain. If I
remove "everyone", it denies access to the domain PCs, but
also denies access to the other XP Home PC. Suggestions?

- Windows XP >> Security Incompatibility?I am running XP with Norton Internet Security 2006. For months, no problem
and suddenly I can not access the secure server at Amazon.com and Amazon.uk.
Each time, I get an error message.
If I sign in using the standard server, I get access.
Any ideas?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Last video configuration not retained on rebootOk, to start off i have almost always been having trouble with getting
my graphics card (ATI X700) to work to its fullest. But having said
that, I don't think the video card is the problem. I have installed
the card in another computer and it works fine. In addition, I have
recently discovered one clue (see the very bottom of this post) that
might help figure out what is wrong.
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When i formatted my computer atleast 6 months ago and installed the
video card drivers the following would happen:
I would install the driver, restart, and once it got to the log in
screen the computer would freeze completely after about 20 seconds, no
matter what i do. Then i would restart by pressing the restart button
on the computer, and this time the computer would work fine and the
video card drivers would work.
But the next time i turn off the computer and start it up the
resolution would be the lowest and the colors would be set to the
lowest and worst looking. When i try to change these settings, it
doesn't change and just stays at a low resoltuion and color. Then
everytime i wanted to get my graphics back up to normal i would have
to install the driver again, restart, let it freeze again, restart,
and then it would work, until i restarted my computer again.
I was coping with letting my computer do that, but recently i decided
it was time for another reformat (hoping my video card problem would
go away). So i reformatted, installed all the windows updates, except
misc ones like messenger (And yes i did install .Net framework 2.0
because the driver requires it). After i installed all those updates i
got the newest video driver for my card (version 6.11) and installed
it, then restarted my computer. But is exactly the same as before...
my computer still freezes the first time when i start up, and then i
have to restart it again for it to work. And just like before when i
turn off my computer the resolution goes back to low as well as the
color, which means i have to install the video card driver again and
go through the whole process again of restarting, letting it freeze,
and restarting.
CLUE:
Recently I discovered that if I press F8 as the computer is rebooting,
and then choose 'Use Last Known Configuration', then it will start up
properly and everything works fine, without having to reboot. So, why
doesn't it automatically use Last Configuration??
It would be of GREAT if you could help me fix this problem because as
you know, i shouldn't have to install my video card driver all the
time.

Windows XP Network >> Can't surf but can still download
I have two computers connected to a Linksys WRT54G (wireless router).
My trouble is that from time to time I loose the ability to surf the
web on both computers at the same time. But while I can't surf, I can
still download files via any bittorrent client like utorrent.
When I unplug the ac power to the router and replug it in, I re-gain my
surfing capabilities.
I loose my connectivity once or twice a day and have to do the unplug
and replug thing.
This is the third linksys router that I've had this problem with. The
first was a wired router BEFSR41 and the 2nd was a WRT54G (wireless
router) and now I'm on my third router, again a WRT54G.
Linksys gave me the 3 router hoping to correct the problem. It didn't.
The cable modem is getting a strong signal...so says the cable
company. They think it's an ip conflict caused by the router.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

- Windows XP >> Why Is This Happening?I have recently upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition.
From time to time a window pops up that tells me that it
is trying to install Office 2000. The bar shows that
something is being loaded for a few moments, then another
window opens that tells me that the feature that I am
trying to use is not available, please insert your Office
2000 disk into the drive.
This appears to happen randomly and at times that I am
not aware that I am trying to use an Office 2000
feature. For example, this last occured when I
attempeted to search for a file using the search
feature. I have had Office 2000 installed for several
years and never had this happen when I was using Windows
98SE.
So far this appears to only be an annoyance, but I would
like to know what is going on.

the right hand side it slides up and down by itself making
it very hard to click on something specifiek or even to
read a long text. I have done a Norton scan which tells
me that I am missing the file mscoree.dll from the
folder 'installshield'. Can anyone help me its driving me
crazy.

using 100% of the CPU. If I stop this process my machine
runs ok, but with it on my machine is so slow. Tried to
find this file but its not visable on my HDD. Also the
net has not yielded any results. Can anyone help.

on "svchost" from WinXP wronly thinking that this was a
spyware program. I realize I was wrong; Now, I can't use
some programs such as those not connecting to the internet
(IE, Netscape). I'm getting by via Win98 for internet
access (I have dual booted with the 2 systems on 2
separate hard drives). ANY SUGGESTIONS???

immediately displayed:
"cannot publish movie please make sure you have hard drive space and all your
source files are there..."
I've done all of this and tried everything I can... It won't let me publish
to the computer any windows media video!!!
What do I have to do? Neither is my hard drive full nor is any source file
missing. It runs with DV-AVI but not with the other options.
WMM is not crashing and is not freezing. It just displays the error and I
can continue working with my desktop!
I am using Vista Premium Home (german version) and have Pinnacle Studio 11
installed. Is there maybe a conflict with the codecs?

At every boot windows usually auto activates password field of my account.

Even if i have one account only, i have to click on my username to focus psw
field.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Fresh install - but very slow...I recently changed my broadband ISP and decided to do a completle fresh
install during the 10 days my line was 'being tested for optimum speed'
before being set at an appropriate level, and now my PC has turned in to a
sloth.
It's a homebuilt P4 2.8E with 2Gig RAM and two SATA drives and, although I
know this isn't anywhere near a true gauge of speed, the blue progress bar
crosses the screen at least 11 times now when it used to take only 4-5 before
the login screen appears. I've changed nothing other than the graphics card.
Originally I thought it may have been related to the new ISP, but this is
likely to have been coincidental - I came back from holiday the (expected)
changeover had taken place, but the connection was running really slow. As I
hadn't done any housework for a while, I thought a fresh install would help,
but if anything it's slower than before.
Another symptom seems to be internet explorer related, in that when
connected to the web clicking on a link often leads to a 'Page not found'
error, sometimes resolved by several clicks of the refresh button.
The only software installed was legitimate, registered and activated
Microsoft programs and hardware drivers, and no problems are apparent in
Device Manager. The soundcard is a Soundblaster Audigy 2 and the graphics
is a Gigabyte GeForce 7600GS. The USB hardware includes a Netgear DG834N,
Epson R300 and Brother HL-1440 printer, a Canon LiDe 80 scanner.
I also run Norton antivirus 2007.
Any suggestions - including a reinstall if necessary - would be appreciated,

- Windows XP Hardware >> Can someone help me with CD-ROM?All of sudden, my CD-ROM stopped working. It pops up message: Please insert
correct cd-rom... Of course there is no problem with my CDs, and I had used
it few hours ago, then put pc into standby, came back and since then it is
not working. Also I have PS2.
I had already tried to uninstall and install drive, but it did not work.
DVD-ROM is working fine.
Please someone help me.

are saving to Computer, CD, E-mail, Web, or DV Camera
When I tried saving to CD, the program said the files are too large ( It's a
wedding video).
