Windows XP Home Edition
3.02 gig Intel Pentium 4
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory
120 Gigabytes Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X
The problem is while any audio is playing, from any program, any of the keys
that are pressed on the keyboard interfere with the sound causing it to
break up, and if I'm playing a game then game play is effected as well. The
game will pause or run very slow while any key is pressed on the keyboard.
Everything runs fine as long as I'm not using the keyboard. I've tried using
different keyboards with no luck. Could someone please advise me on how to
fix this problem.

It's booting THROUGH the CD. Install the Recovery Console and use the FIXBOOT command.
Repair the Boot Sector using the Recovery console.
<http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm#How to Repair the Boot Sector:>
To repair a damaged Boot Sector at the command prompt type FIXBOOT and
press Enter. Then answer "Y"
HOW TO: Install the Windows Recovery Console http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=216417
Install the Windows Recovery Console After Windows is Already Installed on the Computer:
1. Click Start, click Run, and then type CD-ROM drive letter:\i386\winnt32.exe /cmdcons in
the Open box, where CD-ROM drive etter is the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive.
2. Click OK, follow the instructions on the screen to finish Setup, and then restart your
computer.

should you not also be telling him to delete that copy of XP that is in the
same partition as his 2000 ??
to create a NEW partition and then reinstall XP onto that partition....since
2 operating system do NOT live happily ever after on the same partition

Not to be gruff or unkind, but the best software sometimes
can't account for or overcome "user stupidity."
not to insult. We've all done "bone head stuff." It's part
of the learning curve.
(For instance, I'm not going to say why, but I just figured
out why I can't load Service Pack 2 successfully! It crashes
every time. "User Error")
When you install XP (or any Microsoft OS for that matter),
the Microsoft OS really likes to take over your whole
system.
The only way to run 2 OSs is to run them on SEPARATE
partitions.
As it is now, with 2 OSs on one partition, Windows managed
to "install' -- sort of-- but it ain't gonna run!
You need to reinsert your XP disk in the CD drive, reboot,
make sure it boots to the CD Drive, and to a clean install.
Meaning to start with a format.
You'll actually want to DELETE your partition, THEN format
and install XP.
If you actually want 2000 and XP BOTH on the same computer,
there is a way (I BELIEVE-- I know I've successfully loaded
and run both 98 and XP Pro on mine),
get back to me/us.
YOu basically have to install two separate partitions, one
for each OS.
Hope that helps. At least XP makes it VERY easy to install
the system.
You can go from partitioning to a running OS and a "Desktop"
in some 30 minutes to an hour depending on the size of your
hard drive.
And-- for goodness sake-- be sure you're backed up!
Good luck!

- Windows XP Hardware >> Serious burning issuesI am having a big problem and I desperately need your
help. I am unable to burn a cd anywhere in my house. I
have 2 computers in my house. I thought it might have
just been the burner of the first computer when it didnt
work, but now I have moved to my second PC, and nothing
will burn on it either. So I have tried 2 computers, 3
different burners, 3 different cd burning softwares,
(nero, easy cd creator 5.3.5 platinum, and nti), tried
different files and different burning speeds, even the
lowest speed on all drives. I even tried 3 different
kind of cd media in case that was the problem. This
started all a sudden, please I have no idea what the heck
it could be. I have XP Pro on both machines, and they
are not networked in any way. Also, I've tried Music and
Data, and nothing works. One of my systems is P4 2.4,
768 Ram, 40Gb hard drive, so I dont think that's the
problem. Thank you very much in advance for any advice.

- Windows XP Network >> internet gatewayI have a broadband connection in the house and it keeps
stopping working. When i start the computer everything
works fine but after a while it stops working. When i go
into network connections and try to look at the status of
the connection i can't because it just opens for about 1
second and then disappears. When i try to disconnect it
it tells me i can't because it is disconnecting. this is
a real annoyance. the only way i have found to get it
working again is to restart the computer. i am able to
ping the adsl router than i am connected to and my laptop
which is connected to the adsl router as well but i just
can't get an internet connection. i can get it always on
the laptop.

- Windows XP Network >> Possible to set up host IP as something other than 192.168.0.1 for ICS?My question is it possible to use ICS without assigning the host's IP
address to the default 192.168.0.1. The reason I am trying this is
because im trying to use my wireless laptop (connected to wireless
network) to give access to my wired desktop. The problem is that the
router used on the wireless network has already taken the 192.168.0.1
address and I cannot change it because it is in my neighbor's house
(college students saving money by sharing internet connection) My
laptop has XP Pro and desktop has XP home. Any help would be greatly
appreciated and If any additional info is required I will be more than
happy to provide.
Thanks, Ryan

- Windows XP Setup >> Problems During Upgrade HELP!Hello everyone. I have a laptop that I'm upgrading to
Windows XP and everything seemed to go fine until I got to
the point where I had to add a user. I added the user and
hit next, and then I got a message that
said: "Userinit.exe Application Error. The application
failed to intialize properly (0xc0000033) Click on OK to
terminate the application." All you can do is click okay.
Then nothing happens. So if I click Ctrl-Atl-Del I get a
message that says "Taskmgr.exe Application Error" The rest
of the message is the same as before. I can't power the
comptuer off unless I just actually manually turn the
computer off. Does anybody have any fixes for this
besides to reformat the whole thing. I did attempt a
repair with the same results. I'm concerned because I
don't think all of the person's files are backed up. Any
suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, A.D.

- Windows XP Network >> domain and workgroupsI, too, need to access a domain network at work and a workgroup
network at home. Here's what happens: to join the domain at work I
have to go into mycomputer properties, computer name and choose the
"domain" option. Once I am part of that domain, when I get home, my
laptop no longer sees the workgroups at home. If I go back and change
mycomputer name from "domain" to workgroups, then I can see them, but
then when I go back to work I have to get the network adminsitrator to
joint me to the work domain all over again. How can I have both?
Many thanks,

- Windows XP Support >> Windows Shutdown screenIs there any way to hide the "Standby" option on the shutdown screen?
Because I am severely mobility impaired it is not easy to hold down "shift"
and click on "hibernate" in one movement.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have my work laptop that is running xp pro. At work it
connects through a domain, I brought it home and decided

some files. After it asked me to reboot, I tried to log
in with my regualr user name and password but it would
not log me in. Help! Can I fix this?? I never specified a
new user name and password!!
Thanks

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Rewind Tape then crashI now have MM2 working to the point where it rewinds the tape then I get a
crash with
"An unknown error has occurred"
I would appreciate any ideas.
I notice this is not covered on the MS site, nor anywhere that I can see.
Maybe this is a topic for the papjohn.org site? or don't crashes happen with
this software.
cheers

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> It keeps freezingWhenever I open a project or start trying to make another movie when I want
to preview it and press play WMM just freezes and doesn't do anything. It
must be something up with the title options or something but yea, I'd hate to
have to restart my current GMV because timing stuff to "Witchdoctor" is
rather tedious....
Does anyone here know what's wrong with it because right now i feel like
kicking the stupid thing. This is the first time ever that WMM has been
spazzing on me.

- Windows XP Network >> No Notification Area IconMy network adapter icon recently disappeared from the notification area. I
made sure that the Display Icon checkbox was checked on the adapter. I have
tried uninstalling the adapter and I have tried unchecking the notification
box, rebooting and then rechecking it. Each time I check it the hourglass
appears for a moment but there is no icon. A related problem that happened at
the same time is that I can no longer get the status of the adapter either -
clicking on Status causes nothing to happen. Any ideas?

- Windows XP Update >> IE 6 (I think) troublesI can use my IE for simple tasks but have a multitude of problems. First
noticed that I could not download a file like a RoboForm update or a Yahoo
photo program. I installed Mozilla Firefox to do my downloads. I couldn't get
to this page using IE. I saved the address and am using firefox. Probably
should start with the root items that I've discovered. When I do About IE to
get vers #, I get blank. When I have tried to manage favorites, I get
nothing. I do NOT have (or cannot find) my Information Bar. I do remember
seeing it a lot in the past but not now. I considered downloading IE7. First
step required was to right click info bar and retrieve Active X control. No
info bar. I'm using free Zone Alarm and Norton System Works with up-to-date
registration. I have set default values for IE Security. If someone could
help me identify the fixes needed for the simple stuff, maybe it will take
care of it all! Many thanks.

- Windows XP >> Vista's minimum CPU requirements are 243 percent larger than XPRepost from archives: Vista - XP cpu usage comparison
A survey in December by US IT services company Softchoice claimed that Vista
will be the most power-hungry Windows desktop so far. The report claimed
that at Windows XP's launch, for example, the minimum CPU requirements were
75 percent greater than those for the operating system it replaced, Windows
2000. Vista's minimum CPU requirements are 243 percent larger than that of
XP.
