- Windows XP Hardware >> Xp Wont Recognize Gamepads connected to my USB ports.Title says it all pretty much. I have a Phillips PC Recoil gamepad(from
Walmart). Whenever I connect to it my rear USB ports it's not even
detected but the pad powers up(lights ect). When I connect it to my
front USB ports it's detected as a USB device(But no lights ect) but
only for a short time. Twice it did recognize new hardware was
connected but not long enought to do anything. When I check the Device
Manager it's listed as an Unown Device. I've tried installing the
drivers first to see if it helps but no effect(Software wants the
device connected to finish intallation). I' ve checked my Bio's and
everthings set there. It's been giving me a headache for three days
now. Any suggestions?

- Windows XP Support >> Hard drive light is always onI recently purchased a new video card, an Asus V9520-X/TD 128MB, to run on
my P4 1.5GHz system with an Asus P4B motherboard and 512 MB of SDRAM.
The hard drive light is always on, not flickering off and on but always on.
I have asked Asus for help twice but the first time there was no response and
the second time they said they are having trouble with their email and did
not recieve the description of my problem.
I reinstalled my old video card and the hard drive light reacts as I would
expect but when I reinstalled the new card the light remains on.
Any suggestions to fix this problem or as to why it is happening?
Thank you.

- Windows XP Hardware >> monitor support in Windows XPI have lost my monitor support in Win XP. No "monitor"
is listed in the device manager. I think that Windows is
using a VGA driver with a 60 Hz.refresh rate. I cannot
install a monitor using add hardware in control panel as
it is not listed. Does anyone know how I can reinstall
monitor support in Win XP?

- Windows XP >> Backup -- missing target driveI did a MS backup using my L drive for the target and all went well. Since
then I have not been able to replicate that. The drive appears to be fine --
I can open it and inspect files or copy stuff to it. The only problem seems
to be that MS Backup wil no longer offer it as a target for backups. I did a
check point restart to an earlier date than the time I did the initial backup
thinking that something had gone wrong and a restore would fix it -- wrong
guess. By the way, I just checked and that drive has 119 GB free space. Any
ideas?

- Windows XP >> Reboot loopI have a machine that I have upgraded to XP Home. After
activation it will run without a problem, then he after
an unknown time you reboot the system and it goes into a
loop. I have tried to repair with no luck. I have re-
installed the operating system for the third time. I can
not see the error message because the blue svreeen only
flashes and reboot starts.

ago), but I do not have Movie Maker on my machine anywhere. Is there
another step to the downlaod / activation process?? Do I need a prior
version to get 2.1?
Thanks.

- Windows XP Setup >> Windows Update LocksMy stepfather did a "recovery only" option on his Pavilion. When he clicked
on Windows Update, it asked to install the new software. He did that but
something happened that it froze his PC. He restarted his computer and tried
the WU again. However, after it launches, nothing comes up at all ... It
just "dead stops". His PC cannot even turn AU on automatically or even
manually. Tried installing BITS 2.0 (what the new WU uses) but same thing
happened. Just nothing happens after he launches WU. It starts loading the
page but completely stops with "done" written at the bottom of the page
progress bar. The express/custom links do not show up at all. Any
suggestions would be appreciated. I did follow the troubleshooting steps WU
asked such as checking the registry and all to see if AU has "started"
written in the tables. It does. It is frustrating. Any ideas??? All the
other microsoft sites work. Just not WU. I think there is a "jam" in some
file WU uses.

- Windows XP Setup >> New Installation ProblemAfter installing Windows XP Professional my system will not start up without
giving me a Disk Boot Failure, Insert System Disk and Press Enter. It starts
up fine after doing this. I have recently installed SP2 and I can no longer
reinstall from my original disk although I can still boot from it when
needed. Can anybody help?

- Windows XP Network >> XP Network Bridge ProblemI'm at my wits end, and can't seem to find anyone having the specific
same problem I'm having. If anyone can help, it would be HUGELY
appreciated.
Here's my setup:
I have a PC upstairs that is running XP Pro, connected to the internet
via a cable modem, running ICS, and connected to a Linksys WAP. I've
got multiple machines connecting to this WAP successfully (two laptops,
my PDA, and a Tivo). The WAP has a WEP key and MAC filtering.
Downstairs, I have three PCs connected to each other through an
Ethernet hub. One of the PCs (running XP Pro) also has a wireless
adapter (a Belkin USB adapter) that works just fine AS LONG AS I DON'T
BRIDGE IT WITH THE ETHERNET ADAPTER. As soon as I bridge it, although
the wireless appears to be connected the MAC Bridge Miniport does not
get an IP from ICS, and the machine loses connection to the internet.
I've put the MAC Bridge Miniport's MAC into the MAC filter list. I've
deleted and recreated the Bridge a dozen times. I turned off IEEE
Authentication on all connections, including the Bridge. I even put
the Ethernet card's MAC in there for good measure. No dice.
Yes, I turned on promiscuous mode on the Belkin wireless adapter, and
followed the Crawford article
(http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/networking/expert/crawford_02april22.mspx).
The worst part is, this once worked. It all stopped working when I
UNPLUGGED THE MACHINE. Reboots didn't kill it, but for some reason
losing all power (while I rearranged the room) did.
PLEASE HELP!!

- Windows XP Network >> Network problemI have two computers connected on my network, my desktop and laptop.
Everything has been fine until a couple of days ago when i was unable to get
access to my laptop through My Network Places, however the internet is still
running on both computers. I have tried different trouble shoots and have
ran the network wizard setup several times but I'm still unable to find out
the problem, my laptop no longer has access to any file shares or the printer
which is connected through my desktop via USB and my desktop is unable to
access any files on my laptop.
Can anyone shed any light on this matter?

- Windows XP Setup >> Quick Launch SizeI can get just 3 icons to show up in the quick launch bar without having to

- Windows XP Network >> Network Path Not Found ErrorNetwork layout is a small peer to peer network with each computer on the
proper addressing subnet and in the same workgroup. Each time I try to go to
one of the network computers I get the Network path not found error. I know
that there is a registry change to do after installing SP2 but I don't
remember what it is. It changes the way users authenticate on the network.
Can anyone point me to the proper register key to change?

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> TV to Dazzle 150 to Computer to VHS TapeHow do I get an edited capture back to VHS from my computer?
I capture TV to my computer via the Dazzle 150 unit and edit with
moviemaker or pinnacle studio. I do not have a DVD burner.
I don't know how to play my edited capture on the tv and record it using
the VHS player/recorder.
I've got a Panasonic VHS player/recorder. Regular TV viewing is via
cable and playing a tape requires turning the TV to channel 3.
Any ideas on how to accomplish my goal of moviemaker file or pinnacle
studio file back to VHS?
Thanks,
Bryan

- Windows XP >> Shut Off problemRecently my computer has been acting strangely. When
I "shut it off" and windows XP turns it off, the computer
will turn itself back on after a minute has elapsed and
XP will restart. Why has this started happening all of a
sudden? It seems as if it isn't fully powering off and
actually restarts itself. Does anyone have a suggestion
as to why this is occurring and what I can do to fix it.
Thanks bunches.

- Windows XP >> Welcome screen semi-freezeI'm running XP Professional. I've got an admin account set up with a
password, and several user accounts with no password. Beginning a week ago
or so, I started having trouble at the Welcome Screen (The one with the icon
for each account.) It would semi-freeze, so that clicking on the icon for
the any user account or clicking on the "Shut down" button would do nothing.
If I click on the Admin icon, it displays the thing to enter the Admin
password. When I enter the password it logs me on as Admin. If I then
immediately log off (doing nothing else), then the other icons work perfectly.
System info: 2 GB RAM, (originally) 320 GB Maxtor hard drive. 142 GB of
free space. Windows XP Professional SP2. It is almost fully patched, except
for Genuine Advantage Notification Tool and IE 7 (but I almost never us IE,
instead I use Firefox), and a few .NET and DRM things. I'm super faithful
about updating my antivirus stuff. I'm behind a firewall that blocks all
incoming connections.
A couple of months ago my hard drive started making an occasional clanking
sound. I called the company I got the computer from (Cyberpower), and the
shipped me a replacement hard drive. Alas, it was not an exact replacement:
300 GB instead of 320. But I found a utility on the Maxtor web site that let
me copy the old disk to the new disk. That worked flawlessly. Then I
installed the new disk as the live hard drive. There were only 2 complaints:
(1) Photoshop asked to be reactivated, and that was just one click. (2) The
next time I ran Windows Update, it said I had to update the updater, and that
installed Genuine Advantage (not the notification component, which is
separate). Genuine Advantage had been installed long ago. But my guess is
that the Maxtor tool copied at the file system level and Genuine Advantage, I
think, works like a root kit and thus is invisible to the file system, so it
didn't get copied.
Any ideas?

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> video capture cardsI have been looking for a capture card to move analog tapes to digital...
from what i've read on the net, most of these cards are not rated very well.
