- Windows XP >> Password Protected Folder - I do not remember the password and ...In: microsoft.public.windows.inetexplorer.ie6.browser
Windows XP pro and IE 6.0
Some time has passed, but I recall putting password protection on two
folders that are located in my Desktop. When I tried to open the folders, I
only found one file that could be what I wanted. It is tn.4.cache with only
2670. KBs so it may or may not be the file. I originally backed up the
folder holding this file, but now the backup is corrupted so I was trying to
open the original folder. When I open the folder, there are two small files
and the tn.4.cache. Trying to open that one, I get stopped by an error
message saying it cannot be opened as it is not a valid win32 application
once. Other times I can't open the file because the programs I tried to use
do not work with the file.
I am wondering if I am just barking up the wrong tree and this is not even
my original file that I password protected.
Is there any way to determine what the file is and might contain. Am I
getting the error message due to the password protection or for some other
reason.

- Windows XP Hardware >> Computer configured in ACPI Multiprocessor but only using 1 cpuHi,
I have a dual processor computer and during the Windows XP install it set it
up as an ACPI Multiprocessor PC and both cpu's are listed in the device
manager. However, benchmarks only reflect the scores of a single cpu pc.
Also, in the task manager under performace, you should see 2 cpu graphs I
only see one and in the processes tab I don't have the option to 'Set
affinity' (which is to specify a process to run on a certain cpu).
My pc is 2x AMD Athlon 2800+ MP, motherboard is ASUS A7M266-D, 1gb of
registered ddr ram, ATI Radeon 8500 64mb DDR.
I contacted AMD they said it may be an operating system related problem.
thanks in advance.

- Windows XP Security >> malicious URLI am experiencing a random problem when opening internet
explorer. Rather than bringing up my home page, explorer
will sometimes attempt to locate the following web
site:dw.dailywinner.net/securenet/affil/? . It is
impossible to remove this from the address bar as it
appears to be in an infinite loop. Any suggestions on
what can be done to remove this URL and are there any
other reports of this problem?

- Windows XP Support >> Funny colors playing .wmv filesGreetings:
I just recently have begun having a problem in that .wmv files that
I've downloaded play back in funny solarized green/blue/pink colors.
Files that I have previously downloaded still play fine. But every file
that I've downloaded over the past 24 hrs has had this problem.
I thought maybe they were a different incompatible verison of wmv files
for the XP player. Is that possible? But it seems odd that EVERY file
I have attempted to download and play in the past 24 hrs has had ths
problem. My player is Version 9.
I also thought maybe something got scrogged with my player. But, as I
mentioned, files I've previously downloaded still play fine.
Any thoughts or suggestions???

CD-ROMs. For a couple weeks, it hasn't been detecting any music CDs I've put
in for download or any of the CD-ROMs. Nothing happens. Can anyone help me?
Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

If you just have light scratches, you can get your local CD store to run
your disk through a cleaner that will polish them out and make your CD
usable again.
They will also have fairly cheap cleaners to buy.
The same kind you use for your TV disks.

I don't have the phone number, but you can call Microsoft for a replacement
fairly cheap as long as you have the product key.

- Windows XP Update >> Clients need up to 45 minutes to boot windows since patchingHi,
I have a lot of trouble :-(
About 20 clients of our domain need up to 45 minutes to boot windows xp,
since I have patched these clients with 918899 and 920214 over wsus. The
rest of the clients are ok. When windows xp starts, it loads first the
network-settings. Thats ok, but the clients begin to hang for about 45
minutes by loading the computer-settings.
Does anyone know this problem?
Thanks for helping and sorry for my bad english :-)

- Windows XP >> Windows XP does not utilize half of my RAMHi everyone,
I have Win XP SP2, and 2GB of RAM.
For some reason, the OS always leaves ~1GB of RAM free, and starts
using the hard drive pagefile rather aggressively (sometimes up to
1-2GB is paged out, while 1GB of RAM is still free).
I would like XP to start using the other 1GB, before paging file.
Any settings that I should modify?
Thanks!

following file is missing or corrupt: \windows\system32\drivers\isapnp.sys'

1. the command ren c:\windowssystem32\drivers\isapnp.sys isapnp.old yield
me a message simular to the name is not a file or directory. Going to the
directory and performing a dir confirmed that the file exist. Using the
delete or del command yielded me the same results.
2. after doing the expand command, the workstation just keeps rebooting
itself during startup

- Windows XP >> Quick Launch Toolbar Icons Rearrange ThemselvesHello,
I have a windows XP (pro) machine with two user accounts.
I use Internet explorer 6. I have several shortcuts on
the quick launch toolbar. It used to be that once I
changed the order of the icons on the toolbar, the changes
remained in effect the next time I booted the machine.
However, something happened some time ago that caused the
icons to be automatically rearranged every time I log onto
the machine. I played with different arrangement
settings, but it all seems to revert back to the same
order once I reboot. This only happens to one user
account. The other user account still works fine. I
tried deleteing the toolbar completely and started from
scratch, but the same problem still exists.
Does anyone know how to resolve this?
Thanks,
Farid
