- Windows XP >> Scheduled Tasks do not operate unless someone is logged inThis is my problem. I have two windows xp pro computers. I want to start a console window email program I wrot
at system startup. I also want that task to be executed before a user logs in. However, the progra
returns an exit code of 80 when scheduled at startup. The program seems to run fine when a user
logged in and works when scheduled for a user loggin. The strange thing is that I am able to accomplis
this system startup task on on
of my computers and not the other. As far as I could tell, they hav
same basic OS properties. Thanks for any suggestions

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Movie Maker keeps closing downHi, as the title says my MM keeps closing down on me, I don't even get an
error message when it happens. Ive restarted my comp, tried it again, same
thing happens.
I was gonna uninstall it to reinstall it again, but I cant find it in the
remove programs list, so I tried to just reinstall over it, but still the
same problem.
It will let me on it for a few moments before it closes and I tried to view
the codecs through WMM in case they where causing the problem, but for some
reason I cant even get the option to do that anymore.
I was going to do a system restore, but I have too many important documents
on my computer to do that.
Can someone please help me?

- Windows XP >> Windows XP Internet Information Services (IIS)Hello,
Is Internet Information Services installed by default on Win XP Pro?
Mine is installed, but I do not remember if i had to add it on.
Also, what kind of applications depend on IIS?
I wasn't sure if Remote Desktop depends on IIS. I know that Remote
Desktop Web Connection requires it, but i don't know if the normal
Remote Desktop needs it.
Basically, I'm wondering if I need IIS on my machine at all... and I
just wanted to make sure i am not going to mess anything up if i
remove it.
Thanks!

and the harddrive had to be reformated. We've been able to
recustomize everything back to the way it was, but we have
one problem that's driving us up the wall.
We can't get rid of XP's Welcome Screen.
Everytime we go under Start-->Settings-->Control
Panel-->User Accounts and then click on "change way of
logging on and off" we get the same message.
"The specified module could not be found."
We called up our laptop support center and they were
baffled. Can any of you help?

Windows XP >> Service Pack 2 intsallation problem
While trying to install SP2 I am getting this error:
"The file c:\windows\system32\ftp.exe is open or in use by another
application.
Close all other applications and then click Retry."
I ran Task Manager and it does not show this application running in the
"Proccesses" tab. Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?
Regards
Chris Saunders

Windows XP >> Service Pack 2 intsallation problem
It should show up as "File Transfer Program".
You might want to try to rename the program.
If you can't rename it, then it means another program is indeed using =
it.
You can use Task Manager to Kill tasks until you find the task
that is using the FTP program.
Then, disable that program until you install SP2.

- Windows XP Network >> XP slow to discover DNS server after reboot or LAN interruptionI have a network consisting of a Linux firewall machine, and a Windows
XP Professional laptop.
Every time I reboot the laptop, or momentarily disconnect the LAN
connector from it, I have to wait 40 seconds for the first DNS query.
For instance, if I do "ping yahoo.com" from the command line, it takes
40 seconds to resolve the address. During this time, if I do "ping
216.109.112.135" (which is yahoo's IP address) the pings are all
returned instantly. So I believe this is a DNS server discovery issue.
After the first DNS query completes, subsequent queries work fine with
no delays. But each time I reboot or disrupt the LAN connection I have
wait 40 seconds for the first DNS query. I discovered this also occurs
each time I do "ipconfig /flushdns".
My laptop TCPIP properties define the laptop IP address (no DHCP) and
two DNS server addreses. Both of those servers are fine. I tried
turning off NETBIOS but it made no difference.
Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Why does it take so
long to discover the DNS server or resolve the name the first time?
Thanks.

- Windows XP Setup >> Not Enoug space on Hard DiskHi wondering if anyone can help.My pc is running slower and slower and i
think its due to the fact that i only have 9% of free space left on my hard
disk.I do have a lot of music files ( 11.6gb ) and i was wondering if there
is anything i can do to compress these files to make more space, and if i
can, will it harm those files, and, folders? If not, is it a case that I have
to go out and buy a larger memory and if i do, is it expensive and is it
difficult to do. I have 37.27gb of memory and like i said i only have 9% free
and to run the de,fragmentiser its telling me i need at least 15%.If this has
made sense to anyone...please please help.
Thank you

- Windows XP Setup >> Making progress, but can't get rid of dual bootIf you saw my post from yesterday, I now have C: D: E: with XP home on C: and
(looks like) a remnant on D: which causes me to get 2 WinXP home boot options.
Booting the first, everything's fine. Booting the second gives me a
corruption error.
I have "formatted" d: and there are no files on it except for a hidden
"System volume Folder" with (apparently) nothing in it.
Anyway, I'd like to get rid of the second boot option. How do I do that?
Also, can I blow away that "system volume folder" on D:? How?
Thanks for everything,
Rob
