- Windows XP Network >> Windows XP Pro Network Connections Disappear...and Other Strange ProblemsYesterday my PC seemed a bit sluggish so I rebooted. Upon reboot and
login I don't have any access to the network or internet. When I
check the Network Connections I don't see any. I also don't see my
taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Additionally when I right click
My Computer and go to Manage, Services I see nothing and the same
thing when I click on Device Manager, just an empty window.
However, when I reboot and go into Safe Mode all the above mentioned
problems are gone but I'm stuck in safe mode.
I've checked the MS knowledge base and ensured all required services
are running as mentioned here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825826
Any suggestions or similar experiences?
Thanks,
Steve

- Windows XP Update >> Really Annoying windows update for MS Outlook 2003I have this really annoying problem. My windows update keeps on poping
up with update for MS Outlook 2003 (Junk filter) which I DO NOT HAVE on
my computer? I have office 2003 but no outlook on it. Searched in
Office folder on C Drive and its not there, Ive already checked.
Whenever the pop up comes up, If I choose to install it.. it takes few
minutes and then it just says failed to install. I assume because I
dont have it on my computer. Even if I choose to custom install it and
choose dont remind me of this update IT STILL KEEPS ON POPING UP!!
GRRRRR....
I went to the windows update website and the update is apparently on
something like ignore list so you think it wont come up anymore but it
still does.
Anyone has any ided how to stop it from poping up? I know I could jst
turn the updates off but there has to be a way to tell the update that
I dont have it on my computer (MS Outlook 2003). Like its really
annoying and I pretty much tried everything.
Please Help!! :)

- Windows XP Network >> Acessing home network through internetOk i have two xp machines on a network. One wireless laptop (Home edition) and one desktop (Pro). I run this network off of a D-Link 614+ (Ver B). Everything seems to be running great, but I was woundering how I can access this through the internet. I want to be able to be at school somewhere and access my home computer. Does this require a VPN? My router supports VPNs and will act as a virtual server but does that require software for that laptop? I really don't want to go out and buy more software. Can I just set up a private port with a user name and password? And if I can, how? Do I have to do this through my Windows xp or through my router? Any info will help, thanks.

- Windows XP >> Changing Registery Key PermissionsI have been trying to install Flash on a PC and get this error:
error 1904. module
c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\flash8.ocx
failed to register. HRESULT - 2147220473. contact your support personnel.
Macromedia says that the permissions for some registery keys are not set
correctly. Specifically the key for
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash
The problem machine is not allowing me to change permissions to that key or
any other key that is related to Shockwave. Here are the keys that I have
under HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT for Shockwave
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.1
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.3
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.4
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.5
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.6
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash.7
I have logged on as the local admin and when right-clicking on the keys
above and choosing "Permissions......" I get the message "You do not have
permission to view the current permission settings for
ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash, but you can make permission changes."
When I click OK the Permissions window opens and there are no Group or user
names listed in the box. I can add user groups and permissions to the box
but I can't save the changes when I'm finished. I get the message "Unable to
save permission changes on ShockwaveFlash.ShockwaveFlash. Access Denied.
Can anyone point me in the right direction to find out why I am not allowed
to change the keys related to the Flash application?
Thanks

Windows XP >> Open window in details mode
Is there some way that every time file/folder window opens it opens in the
"detail" mode?
I'm not referring to windows in Windows Explorer, but those such as when you
save a file from within an application, any application. The default is
"list" and I prefer "detail".
Thanks....

That works for "Windows Explorer" windows. Not, for example, the windows
that open when you do a "Save As" from within an application.

- Windows XP Support >> getting rid of something at startupI'm using Windows XP Home edition.
Recently, I was going to download a program from the web, but I changed my
mind. I said cancel before it was finished downloading.
Now, however, every time I boot-up my computer a window pops up asking me if
I wanted to continue downloading (or running) the same program. I went into
the Run menu and said "msconfig". Under the Startup tab I can see an entry
with the program's name.
I tried to remove that item by un-checking it. But the computer does not
like that because when I re-boot it goes into the
selective startup or diagnostic startup mode and asks me to undo the change
I made.
How do I get rid of that window popping up every time I boot-up. I think
there is also an entry in my registry. Do I need to go to
my autoexec.bat file and make changes there? How do I do that?
Thanks,
Please let me know if you need further information about my situation.

- Windows XP >> Taskbar temporarily freezes and not visible during startup (XP)Hi-
I am running XP Pro SP2. When I boot up and the desktop appears, the
items in the bottom bar are not visible for about 30-60 seconds until
just before the boot process is complete. Specifically, the "Start"
button, the "Systray" items in bottom right corner, and the "Quick
Launch" items are all sort of boxed out - icons missing. When the
entire boot process is about to complete, they are the last things to
appear. My boot takes longer than it should (over a minute).
I have 2 GB RAM, running an Intel E4300 duo core. I do not think it
is hardware related, unless it is the hard drive, because I just built
a new system and transferred my hard drive - and the problem persisted
(previous system was Athlon XP2700, and the same exact thing happened
there). This Windows build was a clean install only 3 months ago, so
it's not a case of a whole lot of junk accumulating over the course of
years.
I have run Startup Inspector for Windows and the only things that
launch at startup are my soundcard driver (Delta 1010 LT), the video
control center (ATI Catalyst) and "ctfmon". Verified the same with
msconfig.
Any suggestions?
It's obviously not catastrophic, but I would like to fix whatever is
causing it.
Thanks!
