- Windows XP >> Unsolicited E-Mail From MicrosoftHi-
In regards to one of my e-mail ISP accounts: How do I
remove unsolicited e-mail from Microsoft, such as, MS
Corportation Security, Net Message Service, Microsoft
Security, Critical Update, etc.? In some of these e-
mails I can't find the option to unsubscribe.
If anyone should know how I can eliminate this
problem/bug, please let me know as soon as possible.
Thanks, all, for your help and support.

- Windows XP Support >> Multiple drwtsn32.exe & drwin.exe instancesMy laptop has suddenly started working really slowly for no apparent
reason. The laptop is under a year old with very little software on
it. It is a Media Center edition laptop and when I look in task
manager I see 5-10 instances of the following processes:
drwtsn32.exe
drwin.exe
Can anyone advise me what could be wrong here ?
Many thanks in advance

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> series of problems...safe mode...error msgs...no dial toneI am on a friend's computer right now, as my own will not
recognize the dial tone to connect to the internet.
I had downloaded updates from the Windows website, and
when the computer re-started to install them, it then
started with very large icons and a bubble msg that said I
had the screen resolution set very low and press this
bubble and it will automatically correct the
problem....which I did and nothing happened.
I could not even go into my display properties to fix the
problem, as the window was so large, I could not click
apply or ok..to fix a problem.
I restarted in safe mode, which still did not help. I
decided at the command prompt to start in the 'last known
successful configuration (or start..I can't remember
exactly what it said)'
yay! problem fixed sort of....
error message appears: Springfld_adv_DAEMON:WksCal.exe
entry point..the procedure entry point GetIUMS could not
be located in the dynamic link library MSDART.DLL
I could get around this by clicking ok...but could not get
onto Windows website to invesstigate because when I tried
to connect, it seemed not to recognize the dial tone. It
said there was no dial tone and to check the modem.
I checked the cables, tried it with a phone, went into my
device manager, it said everything was performing
properly, checked my network connections, etc......to no
luck.
does anyone have any shred of advice to help out this gal?
thanks. Lynda

- Windows XP >> Wireless Network Connection starts up slowHi,
At system start, the Wireless Network Connection utility loads
especially slow, around 3 minutes after the other regular taskbar items
load. Windows Security Alerts also loads slower than normal. Any way to
resolve this problem?
Thanks.

- Windows XP >> IE6 sp2 won't open pdf filesIt's been a problem for months, so I've given up...
Windows XP, all updates installed... IE ver 6, SP2...
Adobe 7 current Abode onboard.
For the past several months, no matter what I've changed, undone,
security settings changed (all the way down to 'none' and all things checked
for
on..) to security settings turned off on the CA firewall...nothing seems to
help.
pdf files are not displayed in the browser, just the placeholder..and no
error messages
or error indicators. And IE's been reinstalled twice..no good. Adobe's
been reinstalled
on its own and into IE's (through the component interface) and again, no
good.
In Mozilla Firefox though, just recently installed, adobe pdf's display
fine.
IE used to work fine with pdf's, I can't figure out what I might have
changed
to make things not work...or what combination of switches I haven't tried
yet..
Does anyone have any ideas or has anyone seen this issue in current or past
IE's..that may give a clue as well. Maybe it's not in IE itself, but
something in the
XP setup or configuration that is interfering with the pdf's being
displayed.
any ideas very welcome...is this an IE issue or a general XP setup or config
issue?
if I can narrow it down, perhaps I can find out what is actually going
on...it's very
frustrating.
Thanks,

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> DOS programs have slow typing response in command prompt windowRun any older style DOS program through the command prompt
window on XP and print appears on the screen annoyingly
behind the time you type it, i.e., you type about 3 or 4
keystrokes before you see anything and when screen output
does appear, all 3 or 4 strokes appear at once, and so
forth. Same DOS programs did not do this through the DOS
prompt window on 95 or 98. Interestingly, if you run
command prompt window in full-screen (e.g., hit alt-enter)
this phenonenon goes away and you see the smooth
instantaneous screen output you're supposed to. Why? How
can this be remedied?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> debuggersI need some help with a constant message that flashes on
my screen. First, the message is that a runtime error has
occurred, followed by a justin time debugger message that
flashes on the screen. It states that I need to debug and
goes to the debugging screen. It then asks if I want to
break the code. I am no programmer and have no idea what
to do. Whatdo I do? The message is constantly popping
up on the screen. The file name appears to be that of a
certain pop-up site that I have been unable to get rid of
even with a firewall.

- Windows XP Update >> 0x8DDD0018 error, Yet Required Services ARE EnabledThe error states:
Windows Update cannot continue because a required service application is
disabled. Windows Update requires the following services:
Automatic Updates enables detection, downloading, and installation of
critical updates for your computer.
Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) enables faster, restartable
downloading of updates.
Event Log logs Windows Update events for troubleshooting.
All three of these services are showing as "Started". I have been using
Update without problems before, and this is new today. Any ideas?

- Windows XP Network >> Home Networking -- 2 NetworksFolks,
I have a Windows XP Home Desktop and a Windows XP Professional Laptop. Both
have wireless adapters and Ethernet adapters. I have set up a wireless
network from both machines to a DSLAM Subnet 192.168.1.x, 255.255.255.0 DHCP
off the DSLAM). I want to set up a second Ethernet network connecting the
two machines (192.168.2.x, 255.255.255.0 set up statically). I have a 10/100
5 Port Ethernet switch both machines are attached to.
I have run the Network Connection Wizard on the XP Home machine and can ping
both the wireless and Ethernet adapters from that machine.
I have run the Network Connection Wizard on the XP Pro machine and cannot
ping either adapter. However, when I ping the XP home machone, I get a
response from the wireless adapter on that machine. I can ping the TCP/IP
loopback from the XP Pro machine. I am sure that when I can ping the
adapters on the XP Pro machine from the XP Pro machine, all will be O.K.
BTW, the DSL network is running fine on both machines, even thoguh the XP
Pro machine cannot ping its own wireless adapter!
I would appreciate any and all help on this one.

- Windows XP >> SVCHOST.EXE chews up CPU timeI'm getting the same 100% CPU usage as many people are. I looked at articles
314056 and 916089 (describing the hotfix). When I called MS Tech support
they were not aware of any hotfix for this problem. The "resolution" area of
916089 clearly states there's a fix .... albeit new and improved.
Can anyone share the new hotfix number, so I can help the Tech Support folks
help me?
Thanks.

says "Danny" my username in the workstation. And when i

how to change the default domain or delete the one that

- Windows XP >> Vizact crashing with MSHTML.DLL error (IE6/XP)Hello,
Does Vizact have any known problems with either XP or IE6
because every time I try and save something in Vizact it crashes with
a MSHTML.DLL error. I have installed a full clean version of it having
bought a brand new copy cheaply yesterday and currently run FrontPage
2000 and the rest of Office 2000 Premium.
My computer has all the latest updates and patches, so I have no idea
how to get around this problem apart from downgrade my PC to Windows
98SE and IE5.5 because that's what I read somewhere as an ideal
environment for Vizact 2000. Thanks for any suggestions or advice.
Best,
Bill

- Windows XP Support >> Problem with Play Videos in Web PagesUnable to play videos in web pages. When I go to Tools, Internet Options,
Multimedia there is not a check box to tick (or the actual heading) to Play
Videos in Web Pages. I have contacted HP Help by email, and have done all

Instead of doing System restore, If I UPGRADED from Windows XP to Vista would
it be likely that I would still have the same problem?

DRIVERS (DELL 27" LCD) and make way for the gateway 19" stuff so that i could
log in without always being in safe mode
When you boot into Safe Mode, you do not use your systems video adapter in
other than SVGA mode (basic Windows Video Driver).
I believe the same with your monitor. Do you have the old monitor still and
have you tried to hook it back up?
Have you tried to uninstall the Monitor under Control Panel | System |
Hardware | Device Manager (in Safe Mode), reboot and see if Windows tries to
detect the new hardware?
Did you get any software for your monitor that you needed to load ... and
if, so did you check if there where any updates on the Manufacturers
web-site (not Windows ... a lot of times there driver updates for hardware
manufacturers is out-of-date)?
