Windows XP Network >> Remote control What can I use to gate crash my teenage daughter pc?
Sending a screen message like GO TO BED or being able to
shut her Window ME PC down. My two PC are connected via a
wireless Access point and both share a cable modem. I
have no problems with file and printer share, I have been
blocked from her Hotmail sessions and do not like mess
about with the Linksys A/P settings.I have considered to
use a VNC program but that would be accessible to her and
can only run as a service because my O/S is XP.

Windows XP227

Windows XP Network >> Remote control Hi, Daniele -

Not much you can do to a Windows ME machine from remote
without installing software on the machine - but sending
her a message should be fairly easy.

If you open a command prompt window and type

net send \\kids_pc_name GO TO BED NOW!!!

she'll probably get the message.

Another option would be to disconnect the power to the
wireless access point. She'd have kind of a tough time
going anywhere after that :)

Still another option would be to upgrade the machine to
XP Professional and then use local policies to enforce
logon hours - Doug Knox wrote a real concise readme that
helps there - take a look at

http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_restrict_users.htm

Good luck -
