- Windows XP Network >> URSIRIUS's - Windows XP NetworkingHi,
We recently added another PC to our network at home, which consist of one
older PC, a Laptop and this new one. They have all XP home edition.
We are trying to set the network up, which worked great between the 2 older
ones and still does. Unfortunately we have hit a brick wall now, we can
access both old ones from the new box, we can see the new ones drives and
content, but cannot access anything, which includes the printer.
I pinged every computer from the other ones, they all responded, but still no
connections.
Can anyone PLEASE help and enlighten us.
Thanks,

- Windows XP Network >> MacafeeHi, My Dell PC seems to have got itself screwed up. I had Mcafee Firewall
and Viruscan installed. I recently purchased Mcafee Internet Security 7.0.
When I installed 7.0 the install programme said looking for previuos
versions of mcafee and uninstalling before IS7.0 is loaded. Well, 7.0 loaded
but had a few problems so uninstalled it. In Add/Remove programmes I have an
entry "Mcafee Security Centre" but when I attempt to uninstall it I get a
message "Inorder to uninstall Mcafee Security Centre, you need to uninstall
all Mcafee services first". I have uninstalled all other entries for
Macafee. I downloaded "Windows Install Clean up" but that doesnt list any
Mcafee entries. If I look in C:/Windows/Program Files, I have directories
for Mcafee, Mcafee Viruscan 7.02 retail and Mcafee.com. Can you give me some
idea how I get rid of these remnants.
Thanks in advance

- Windows XP Hardware >> No sound after formatting! PLEASE HELPCan someone explain how I can get my audio system to work
again?
I just finished formatting my computer and now my
speakers won't work. I went to the device manager and
noticed that there is a yellow exclamation mark beside
Multimedia Audio Controller and Universal Serial Bus
(USB) Controller. When I clicked on them, it says my
drivers haven't been installed.
How do I install the drivers? My speakers are from Altec
Lansing (ACS21W/ACS22). I also have a CD that came with
my computer. It is labelled as an Upgrade Kit V 1.7 and I
have installed the Sis Utility Tray from it (including
something called PCI Sound?). I just have no idea what to
do next.

I checked out the site and the chart isn't done in
Javascript, but rather Java, which you need to install.
Here's the download link:

Then you'll be able to see the chart with no problem.

"Don't Panic!"
I appreciate your reply and I know it will solve my
problem but my next problem is that when I tried to
install the Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE 1.4.2_03, just
before it finished installing, it gave me the error
message
Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows
Installer Package. A Program run as part of the setup did
not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or
package vendor
If it is talking about Windows XP Service Pack 1, I
cannot uninstall it because when I installed Windows XP
Service Pack 1, it gave me the option to back up the
existing files so that I could uninstall it later but I
chose not to do that and the only way to get Windows XP
Service Pack 1 off my system, is to reinstall Windows.
Any feedback would be much appreciated
Thanks, Glenn

Windows XP Support >> Outlook express problem
Hi,
When I try to open outlook express I get this message
Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to open the
Outlook Express message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your
disk is full. Contact microsoft for further assistance. (0x800c012E, 5).
Then when I click ok it says,
Outlook express could not be started because MSOE.DLL could not be started.
Outlook express may not be installed correctly.
I have enough disk and memory space. I reinstalled outlook express and then
updated it and reinstalled it and its exactly the same.
Also had problems with mailwasher.
Any help good.
Thanx

What is enough space? How do you know you have enough if you havent given
numbers? Have you tried running a disk checking utility to see if there are
file errors or allocation errors- something like chkdsk? There are ngs more
specific to your program- this one is for the operating system- you may be
better going to these.

- Windows XP Hardware >> AC and Battery DriversI am pretty sure my battc.sys and cmbatt.sys files are
screwed up. I found them on my Configuration Builder
(restore) CD, but I need a password to unzip them.
My symptoms are that I cannot use my battery for more that
a few seconds when I unplug my notebook. Also, when the
battery is installed I cannot shutdown
cleanly...everything seems to stall. Finally, in my power
monitor, I show no profiles and I cannot create
any...everything is grayed-out. In the power monitor, the
battery is present and not-present every few seconds when
it is in the machine.
If I am able to unlock the files from my CD, I assume I
can just substitute them for what I think are the
corrupted ones in the system32\driver directory...right?
Is there any other way to obtain these drivers?

- Windows XP Setup >> setup is being restartedHi all,
I had trouble try to repair my Windows XP pro.
Yesterday, I had the problem with my comp. It just hung
while I was trying to turn it off.
Then, I tried to restart the machine, and it said the file
hal.dll is missing or corrupted. So.. I copied this file
from another machine and put to system32 folder, and it
still couldn't boot.
So, I decided to use the CD to re-install using repair mode.
Then, the machine can boot. However, after the black screen
with XP logo, it went to blue screen with the words "setup
is being restarted..." then restarted again and again..
What does this mean?? and how to fix this thing? and what
is the hal.dll file for??
sorry for a bunch of questions. Thanks a million guys...

- Windows XP Update >> problem with Windows Update, not related to WGAI support about 9 or 10 computers on a small LAN, all running XP Pro.
Two of the computers always fail to install updates. The updates
download but always fail with an error code that is never listed in
the KB.
The only thing unique about these two computers is that they were set
up to allow Symantec WinFax Pro fax sharing server to run and allow
connections from other clients to that service.
The modifications involved making some changes to the settings for
certain DCOM rights.
I even tried to update to WGA and that install failed and now the
computer is acting very strange with Explorer (shell) locking up and
other issues which may or may not be related to WGA failing to
install.
In addition, after the computer has been up for a day or so, maybe
less, there is a svchost listing in Task Manager that shows using
almost all available CPU and when I shut down Windows Update service,
that entry goes away. Something has the WU all bound up but I don't
know what.
I'd like to get information that would enable me to troubleshoot the
issue... I really need these two computers to get back on track with
updates, etc... when I download the updates and apply them manually,
they always work so it is just a problem with WU from what I can tell.
I'd appreciate any help...

- Windows XP Network >> Disabling route cachingIs there a way to disable route caching in Windows XP? We have 4
sites connected with redundant links. We have configured our Cisco
routers to automatically failover to the redundant link should the
primary fail. The failover works. The issue we are having is XP
creates a route cache that can be seen when running "route print". If
I failover one of the WAN links, the XP station is not able to connect
until I remove the "dynamic route" in the routing table. After I
delete the "dynamic route" the XP station is able to connect. Also if
I re-enable the WAN link, the XP station continues to use the
secondary link until I go back and remove the "dynamic route". Any
one have any luck in disabling this feature in XP? I have tried
looking in the newsgroups but am not able to see any related posts.

work together. Any combination of two works fine. But add
any third and the computer continually reboots. I can't
find anything in the knowledge base about it. I have to
use the Proxy client, so my options are to not use the Fax
service or not to install any XP patches. I'm behind a
