- Windows XP Network >> changing from one profile to a new profile gets no map drivesThanks for looking at my issue:
I'm running a win2k3 server domain. We are in the process
of upgrading our machines to winxp. We have about 20
differant sites spread out over the area all connected
back to the main site via a 32k frame. At those site only
1 pc is on the network so the line should be ok.
The issue we are getting is that after we set the pc on
the domain and log off then log back in as the user no
mapped drives are under my computer. Sometimes a drive
will map but it won't be to the complete path thats
specified. We have Gp maping the home drive and a script
mapping 1 other drive. Still yet we have a few people that
will log into that machine. So if we log off as 1 user and
back on as another we get the same thing.
I tested this back at the shop on a 100mb connection and
got the same thing. Though one weird things I got is that
if I totally rebooted the machine I wouldn't get any issue
and all drive would map properly.
Please help!!

- Windows XP Setup >> cd/dvd autorun quitI've already modified the registry entry
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer.
It had been modified, but setting it to 95 00 00 00 does nothing.
win article http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;312475
Trouble is it applies to all versions EXCEPT xp pro.
It just quit a week or so back. It was opening the box asking what to run
previously.

having trouble running the games that we won't let them run on our computers.
Specifically, Heroes of Might and Magic. I think I need an older version of

If so, I can't seem to figure out how to remove XP and reinstall ME. Help! :)

- Windows XP Network >> Help - Not enough service storage is availableI have several computers (WinXPPro SP2 and Win98SE) in a small network
that all access drives on each other computers.
One computer MAPLE is most referenced. Most can access MAPLE with no
problems. I have added a new drive to MAPLE. When trying to map the
new drive, I get the message
"The mapped network drive could not be created because the following
error has occurred: Not enough server storage is available to process
this command."
MAPLE is running WinXPPro SP2 and has 512MB ram.
Is there something that I could change to increase the number of
shared network drives???

- Windows XP Network >> PC can't see the Mac files in networkI have a PC, with XP-Home, connected via a router to my Mac-OSX. From the
Mac I can do any number of operations, including transferring files from the
Mac to the PC and extract files from the PC to the Mac, from the Mac itself.
I can also print from the Mac to either printer, the Mac's or the PC's.
Yet, something happened in the last few days and now when I try to connect
from the PC to the Mac, through My Network Places, Entire Network, Microsoft
Windows Network, Workgroup and click on "Mac OS X (my name...)", I get a
warning saying that the Mac is not accessible and that the network path was
not found.
The name of the Mac computer seems to have been changed, but there is no way
I can delete or change the name to what I believe was the original name;
what Mac calls the short name of the computer.
How can I change or modify the properties so my PC can see the Mac. Also,
when the network was working Ok, I could not print from the PC to the Mac's
printer -- it just printed gibberish, or rather, the unformatted version of
whatever it was that I was printing at hat time, with codes galore.
Help! Thank you.

finishes, it hangs at 99%. and never changes pages. I have tried to change
the scan setting to do simple scans but it still hangs no matter how simple I
make the scan....I hope someone has an idea on what to check . . .

strange numbers follow after the product ID.
Questions
[1] How does this Vendor ID and Product ID work ?
[2] What makes the USB mass storage device hardware unique from each ?
[3] Is it possible to have same PnP Device ID for two USB mass storage
Devices ?
All relevant answers will be appreciated.

- Windows XP >> my computer does not allow me to the systerm yearhi, all,
Please give me a little help with any idea what might be wrong with my
computer.
I just got this DELL computer 2 months ago with windows XP installed.
I found out yesterday it does not allow me to change the year of the
computer time beyond 2005. Once I changed to 2008 and click apply,
then it will change back to 2005 again. But I can change the month,
day and time, and I can also change the year in Safe Mode. Only when I
use normal start, it does not allow me change the year again.
Thanks a lot.

- Windows XP Setup >> Hangup at startupI have a new a new Dell with XP Home. About every fourth
or fifth time I start it up it stalls right before any of
the little icons come on in the bottom right corner. If
I wait several minutes I get an error message concerning
the NT-Scanner (I have the Dell All-in-One
Printer/scanner, copyer, fax). It asks me If I want to
send the error message to Microsoft to try to fix the
problem. I've sent this message about ten times. What
happens next? Does anyone ever contact me to suggest how
to fix it? I've tried both a system restore and un-
installing and re-installing the printer software. Help!

- Windows XP Support >> DVD sloooow read performanceI can write 2.5 GB to am 8X DVD-R in 10 min. (using Roxio 7), but if
I try to copy that DVD-R to my HD, it takes 2-3 hrs! I imagine the slow
read performance could be greatly improved by increasing the no. of read
buffers (to minimize lost revolutions), but I can't find anywhere in Win
XP Home to do that (I haven't resorted to Regedit yet), and I can't find
anything in Windows Help (including Internet articles) on the subject
relevant to XP. Can some kind soul point me to relevant info about this?
I've seen this problem on 3 different relatively new systems (all
that I've tried); my current configuration is:
- 3.2 GHz Intel P4 CPU with HT
- Win XP Home (all applicable updates applied)
- 1024 MB dual-channel DDR3200 RAM (2 DIMMs)
- 10,000 RPM 36 GB boot drive
- 7200 RPM 120 GB D: drive
- 16X DVD-ROM drive
- 8X dual-format DVD burner

- Windows XP Hardware >> XP hanging during startupStartup is normal (other than a blinking cursor on a blank screen for 30
seconds, which I've had for three weeks, another issue already dealt with)
right up to the point at which my wallpaper appears. At that point, it
stops. I ran Norton disk defrag and windoctor just prior to last shutdown.
windoctor found 10 problems, 1 ActiveX and 9 shortcuts. Norton repaired the
problems and I shut the computer down and rebooted. That's my story and I'm
STUCK to it! WindowsXP with SP2 on a Dell desktop.
TIA and Thank God for laptops!

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Explorer.exe 100%I have a problem when I select certain files (I dont have
to try to run them just highlight) and also when I leave
a folder open for a long time on a drive.
What happens is that Explorer.exe goes to 100% CPU usage
(according to Task Manager) and everything gets slow.
The only thing I can do is shut it down and reboot.
I have tried to uninstall the 811493 hotfix. Nothing
Virus Scan, Defragged, Disk Doctored, etc..
What can I look for / do? One of the files (video
Sliders 3x16 Exodus Part 1 - 228meg) I cannot even
delete it - says that some file is already using it.
Even after a clean boot. And then the Explorer.exe will
be at 100%
Any suggestions?
