- Windows XP >> Sob story - help!I had aproblem with XP after years of trouble free running - just kept
getting the BSOD every time when booting. To cut a long story short, I
decided it must be some sort of corruption on the HDD, so I reinstalled XP
with a formatting of the c: partition.
However, even that gives the BSOD when I try to boot even though it
installed OK!
I've tried MEMTEST, and that looks OK.
The CPU temp is OK.
I have a RAID setup with a c: partition (system and reformatted) and d:
untouched from previous install.
All BIOS settings are at default, and basically nothing has changed from the
setup that was working perfectly for some time.
What could be happening? I'm tearing my hair out - especially as I've lost
some critical data!

- Windows XP Setup >> Manually Configuring Resource ControlI heard back from tech support for my motherboard in
regards to why I can't have both my AGP graphics card and
mass storage hard drive/ide controller working at the
same time. They suggested that I do one of the following:
1. move your controller card to different PCI slot and
try. (tried already)
2. configure Resource Control By MANUAL under Integrated
peripherals, you could assign the IRQ to any PCI cards on
your system.
3. upgrade your Operating System, eg. windows 2000 or
Windows XP. (I'm running WinXP already)
How do I do number 2?
Thanks.

Some one said I need a driver for XP from Sony. If that

Otherwise, what's the problem and how do I fix it?

Windows XP MovieMaker >> Keep soundtrack & video timelines together when inserting new vide
One problem I have in WMM is when I have made detailed edits to the audio
timeline and then go back and drop in more video. I need a way to tell the
application to keep my audio track aligned with the video track, even when I
drop in new video toward the beginning of the timeline. As it is now, if I
drop in new video at the beginning of the show, I have to go back and
manually re-align the audio with the video because it all gets out of sync.
Does this make any sense? The only workaround I can devise is to just not do
any work on the audio track until after all video has been put into the
show, but that kind of defeats the point of nonlinear editing. i'd like to
be able to just use the mouse to select a segment of video and audio,
right-click it, and say "keep these in sync" and know what whatever I drop
onto the timeline before this segment wouldn't push apart my audio/video.

Windows XP MovieMaker >> Keep soundtrack & video timelines together when inserting new vide
Only solution I can think of is to save the interim video with audio as a
temp wmv (at whatever quality you require and then reimport it as a single
video piece. After that you can add extra video stills etc at the start.

Windows XP MovieMaker >> Keep soundtrack & video timelines together when inserting new vide
I have the same problem. I've created several moview with WMM and all is
well. I used the audio edit and add and no problem. The last movie I made
was relatively simple video edit wise, but was quite lengthy. All I did was
add some Titles. However, it was a couple hours long. I saved it to DVD and
then learned the sound was off.

- Windows XP Support >> Transferring Windows XP to new computerI will be upgrading my computer at home and want to use my current hard drive
with Windows XP Pro (OEM version) in the new one.
I have searched the newsgroup and it appears that because it is an OEM
version I may not be able to change computers.
Does this mean I have to buy another version of Windows XP?
Can I install the OEM version to the new computer's hard drive and then
transfer the rest of the hard drive? What would happen when I had to register
it again?
Help.
Thank you.

- Windows XP Support >> Win XP, NAT, DSL and File SharingYup, this is a common question raised, but this one is slightly different as I
hope someone out there can just read through what I write and confirm or correct
my understanding. Also, any names of systems, workgroups, user accounts, etc are
used for generic reasons so others can learn too, and the set-up does not use
any default names for security (eg, not on the Workgroup workgroup).
---
Right, I have two machines, A and B. A is a desktop machine, B is a laptop. Both
run Window XP Home SP2 with all the updates fully installed and working great. A
(desktop) is connected to a router by wire (ethernet cable). B (laptop) is
connected via a wireless connection to the router, set up with passwords,
encryption and MAC filtering (to keep the unwanted connections out). The router
is a DSL/cable router with built in hardware firewall and NAT (network address
translation). It connects to the internet.
Now, I wish to allow B to see the entire hard disks of A using File and Printer
Sharing. On looking into this, it is a bad idea when connected direct to the
Internet. However, I have found a Scope button in the Exceptions tab of the
Windows XP firewall, which I can limit only to the local IP addresses only
(which are not likely to change).
So.......
Can I do the following safely with no trouble outside?
1. Enable File and Print Sharing.
2. Change the scope settings to only allow it to be open for my known computers
on my local network.
3. Using this, share the root of all harddrives.
Any help would be appreciated.

I have followed the instructions for an answer I got a few days ago, which
suggested I remove .net1.1 and then reinstall it.
I cant remove it because it says that the "installation source is not
available" and it wont install using the download, saying "installation
failed contact the supplier"
The updates still exist in my system tray, and every time I shut the machine
down it tells me there is something about to install, but of course it sits
for a while then shuts off.
Any idea what I should try next

What is wrong? How do I find out what files are still on the 60G that are
