- Windows XP Update >> WinXP sp2 cannot updateHi,
I decided to update Windows XP Prof sp2 today and I get about 8 updates
listed. I click install and an hour latter NOTHING. So I tried it via the
custom method and deicded to do the oldest one first. - Same problem.
Finally I noticed one update addressed a windows update issue concerning
firewalls. Tried that one alone then even turned off my firewall (NIS v2005)
and NAV 2005. Again nothing.
Anyone have any ideas. I also tried it via automatic updates. Then used the
"notifiy me method".
This time got message with no error number but gave the list of updates and
said they were not installed! Redid several times with the same result.
I have a Pentium 4, 512MB Ram, 2.2Ghz Speed and a 60Gig hd that is only 40%
fill. WinXP Pr Sp2.
Help!

- Windows XP Hardware >> WINXP and Color Page Video II by Genius does not installI gave my above scanner some time ago to my daughter and the scanner always
worked under Windows98 and ME. Now she has WINXP and it does not install the

I found the new driver (zipped cpv2nt_e.exe) which says it should also work
in XP, but it sees the scanner, no problem in device manger, it does the
warm-up, but not the scan.
Any ideas?

Windows XP >> TOOLTIPS Microsoft Knowledge Base Article - 814135
I'm using WinXP home and find that the tool tips are
retained - exact symptoms of the KB article. Applied the
fix supplied by MS, but this does not work. KB says a
fix will be upcoming in the next service pak.
Any suggestions or hope that a real fix will be available?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Remove 2nd & 3rd instances of NIC cardI have been moving my NIC card around in my system and now
have an un-tidy trail of multiple / sequential-numbered
instances of the same device in Device Manager.
I would like to eliminate the #2 (& #3 / multiple
instances of device / network components) from the device
description in Device Manager (View > Show hidden devices).
The questionable entries I have are:
... Adapter #2 (note: there's no un-numbered listing of
this device)
... Adapter #2 - Packet Scheduler Miniport (note: there's
no un-numbered listing of this network component)
... Adapter #3 - Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial In)
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial In) #2
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial In) #3
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial Out)
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial Out) #2
WAN Miniport (NetBEUI, Dial Out) #3
I have tried deleting this device and allowing XP to re-
enumerate it, but, it still winds up showing up as above.
XP will not allow me to delete network components (other
than the primary Adapter device listing) - error message
is: " ... may be required to boot-up the computer.".
FYI - These components aren't required to boot my system.
I've also tried deleting these network components in Safe
Mode, but, I get a similar error message.
I've even tried searching the Registry for the device /
network component descriptions, but, the keys found will
not delete, and, as I'm not as familiar with the XP
Registry as I am with Win 98's, I decided not go further
in the Registry at this juncture.
I've tried MS' KB with various search parameters and have
come up empty handed.
Anyone been here done this?

- Windows XP >> stop error and other problemsPlease help, I don't want to continue messing up my computer so I'm seeking
good advice.
Specs: Windows XP Home Edition, SP2, Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80 GHz, 224MB
Ram, IE
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The problematic drive is my E drive.
I usually boot into Win XP with my E drive (my hard drive is split into C
and E drive, both running in NTFS). The otherday, I encountered the BSoD Stop
error: 0x00000024 thus I couldn't boot XP using the E drive at all (not even
in Safe mode), so I booted using the C drive(Normal mode) and ran a chkdsk e:
/f. After restart, I was able to log in to E drive as per usual, but the
taskbar is missing (desktop icons still there)and I can't get into IE. Even
in safe mode, the taskbar is MIA(still talking about the E drive).
I'm afraid to run another chkdsk. I have tried performing disk cleanup then
defrag for both drives, but there was an error message that the E drive could
not be defragged properly. I checked eventvwr.msc and there were lots of
error messages that I can't make head or tails about.
Please point me in the right direction asap.

- customize >> Favorites / alphabetical sortIs there any way to turn off the alphabetical sorting of
my favorites? And while we are at it, the sorting for
folders versus links. I't like to have my most often used
links on top regardless of their name. This is the way my

upgrading to Windows XP Professional this week, the stupid
ABC sort is on and I don't know a way around it.

- Windows XP >> View as SlideshowAt work, when I am looking at pictures, Under the "view" tab I have the
option to view as slideshow - Which opens the selected picture up in the
center of the screen and has the rest of the pictues as thumbnails along the
bottom of the screen. At home I don't have that option and would like to.
Is there some setting I need to change or download/upgrade that allows me
that option?
I have XP Home 2002 w/ service pack 2 (I'm not at work at the moment, I'm
fairly sure I have XP there, but don't know what version).
Thanks,

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Bad Image Message? In the last week, I have been continuously receiving pop up messages (both
while online and offline) telling me there is a bad image. For example, it
will say, "The application or DLL C:\WINDOWS\crme32.dll is not a valid
Windows image. Please check this against your installation diskette." I
have run the most updated virus protection, PCDoctor, an adware removal
program, and updated my OS (XP SP2). What is the source and reason for these
messages? They are about to drive me nuts, now that there are 30 to 40 of
them each day. Can anyone please help? Thanx.
