- Windows XP Setup >> Influencing drive-letter mappingsHello all,
I was just wondering about something. I have a dual boot system, both
OS-es are windows XP. When I install the second OS (on a different
physical) harddrive then the OS does get installed and maps the
'windows' drive to the letter D.
I have 4 harddisks in total. First is basic windows versions. Second is
for my documents. Third, my downloads, music and video's. And fourth my
second windows installation.
Now My default installation (on C) maps the second and third harddrive
as D and E. This is used by multiple programs. If I want to use these
same programs in my second installation, the drive mapping is different
and thereby letting the programs malfunction.
What I would like to be able to do is influence the driveletter of the
active partition of windows (to F). Is that possible?
Thanks in advance,
Eddie.

- Windows XP Network >> Monitoring IP connectionHi,
I want to know if it is possible to determine a connecting IP address in
2000, XP and Vista. Sometimes I see the internet connection icon (next to the
time display) active, but have no idea about the origins of the connection.
It could be an update or undesired connection. Apart from Norton internet
security are there other tools available, easy to install and use?

Thanks for the help

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> CPU Fan Failure in Win XPAt boot up, system displays "CPU Fan Failure Service
Immediately" and then shuts down. I can press F2 and
then the system boots okay. Why is this happening? The
fan seems to be working just fine, I opened the box up to
look for the CPU Fan, no fan, just a big heatsink with a
funnel from the system fan down to it.

- Windows XP Network >> loggin onas guest?, bypassing login? At our office we have a Microsoft Windows Network, our file server is a
MacOS X server, on this server we have a 'workgroup manager' piece of
software which details usernames, passwords and file access restrictions.
We now have some mobile laptops connecting to our network, they also connect
to the server and access the files.
However, the laptop users don't appear to be loggin in to the network when
they turn their machines on and i think that instead of them using their
previously created username, password(and therefore file access rules) they
now bypass these and are merely acting as a guest user.
This is not a job which needs to be fixed on the 'workgroup manager'
software is it? I think its mre to do with the way in which they are tryingto
connect. How can i sort this problem, any ideas -they are both usingWindows
XP Pro.
Many Thanks.

- Windows XP Network >> Internet Connection SharingI have two computers connected on a network through hub.
In the first one I have enabled the ICS. The settings of
the "Local area connection" of this computer are:
IP address: 192.168.0.1
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.0.1
Preferred DNS server: 192.168.0.1
The settings of the other computer are all set to auto.
When I make an internet connection I see both "Local area
connection" and "Internet connection" icons at the task
bar of the second computer but I can't open any pages
with internet explorer. Is there someone who can help?
Thanks.

- Windows XP Setup >> Change of languageGood afternoon... I wonder, does anyone know if it is possible to change the language in which Win XP presents itself?
I have to do some translations of help and instructions for software in another language and it would be so useful to be able to switch Windows between the two so that I could be sure to get the terms consistent.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Windows XP Support >> Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library Runtime Error
I purchased and installed Microsoft Works approximately 2 months ago in my
home computer. I used Microsoft Word a few times as I rarely need it. When
I tried to create a .doc today, I received the following runtime error
message 3 times and I lost the document each time. I was creating a simple
document with no graphics, attachments, etc:
The caption is: "Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library"
The body of the error message states:
"Runtime Error!
Program C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\WINWORD.EXE
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information."
What is wrong with the program and how can I fix it?
Denise
What can I do to stop this?

Windows XP Support >> Microsoft Visual C ++ Runtime Library Runtime Error
I didn't receive the runtime error when trying to open, close or quit Word
2002. I received the runtime error while I was still entering data into the
document, plain text data. The document was a letter, and I made no changes
to the default settings nor did I use any codes, open boxes, create a table,
etc. The document contained much the same information as I just typed here,
nothing more intricate, but I received the error after about 5 minutes of
typing, prior to completing the letter.

- Windows XP Support >> Solving a Net Framework ProblemI recently reloaded my Windows xp and when starting xp it tells me that
'ReminderApp.exe -.Net Framework Initialization error. Application failed to
initiate properly. Then is says Install one of the following versions of the
.net framework.' Nothing is listed.
Then when I click OK, it says that the Application failed to initate
properly (oxc0000142).
Is it talking about windows or one of the programs I installed? Do I delete
programs one by one, reload Windows or or is there another solution. I have
had problems reinstalling many of my other programs also.

- Windows XP Basic >> Switch user causes blank screenHi folks,
Using XP Pro and created a new user account but when running I go to switch
user and select the other account from the welcome screen but the screen
goes blank and I have to reboot the PC.
It happens from either account.
I can only access the other account by rebooting.
Any ideas?

- Windows XP Network >> Total Networking Info Gone MISSING!My PC is about 5 years old now but I have kept it in fairly good shape. I had
regular Windows updates and both an antivirus and spyware protection. In
October my monitor died and I was unable to find a new one until last week. I
connected a new monitor and updated my antivirus and spyware and all worked
fine until I recieved a Windows update which restarted my PC over-night.
During the next day my PC froze completely (mouse pointer included) and after
rebooting all listings of my network connections were erased.
Since then I have been unable to reconnect to the internet as my PC can no
longer find any network cards. I have manually removed and replaced my
wireless card and also physically connected to my router via ethernet cable.
My PC does not recognize any of this and the device manager does not have any
listing of my wireless network card at all. I have utilized both System
Restore and a drive reformat with no success. My wireless card is a Buffalo
Air Station and is less than a year old. I have had no other problems with it
before. If I attempt to install the card driver from the CD I must manually
find the specific file on the disk and then I recieve an error message that
the device cannot be started [code 10]. Add Hardwear cannot detect the card,
even if I shut down and remove or replace it. It is as if my entire PC forgot
everything about networking.
Some of the steps I have tried are from self-help tips online, this seemed
like it would help http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/825826 (I
only completed up to step 10 as more than just the dial-up connection is
missing). Nearly everything I have tried relies on the card being detected by
the system, which it suddenly refuses to do now. I can see no physical damage
to the card itself or the area it connects to the rest of the board. Should I
continue with the steps in the guide? How can I reconnect my wireless card so
it cna be detected?

- Windows XP >> Default Window SizeDear Group, i was asked by a pal of mine how to change the default window
size on a XP box and not knowing the answer i came to you!
For example, if he starts Nero player and selects "Open playlist" a small
window opens. I tried to enlarge the window then did "Tools/Folder
Options/Apply to all folders" but after a re-boot the window reverts to its
default small size.
Is there any way to alter this behaviour please?
many thanks

- Windows XP Network >> Disconnecting client PC's from the InternetI have a small home network (not wireless). 2 client pc's connected through a
hub to the main host PC onto the internet via a cable modem (broadband).
Everything has worked fine for over a year. One morning I noticed the client
PC was not connected to the internet. In summary - the 2 client PC's have
started to lose connection. All cables/cards are OK. In fact I have a shared
drive on the host - which can still be accessed. On rebooting the host -
connection is restored. However after exactly 1 hour the clients lose
connection again. I have made no changes to anything and wonder how I stop
the host PC disconnecting the clients from the Internet after 1 hour. Any
help much appreciated
