My computer recently became unstable to the point where i had to wipe the
hard drive and reinstall windows...but of course, it doesn't work; I keep
getting the blue screen of death, and an 0x0000008E error that no one seems
to be able to figure out:
0x0000008e (0xE27Ed1A4, 0x00000001, 0x808829EE, 0x00000001)
I've even reset the CMOS a few times, doesn't seem to help. Anyone have any
idea what this error means, and what i can do to fix it?

- Windows XP Setup >> On boot, "error loading operating system"In Windows XP, on boot display goes to the black screen right after the first

"error loading operating system" appears. I can make it to set up page, but
not sure if my problem is here or what parameter to address in set up. The
only change in the system recently was a change from dial-up to broadband
internet with no installation of any software

The first two works, but the last one does not work.
Should the program be an exe? bat file ok? I tried both,
neither works.

AFTER clicking on OK a BLUE screen appears with the stop error that reads:
STOP: c000021a [Fatal System Error]
The windows Logon Process system process terminated unexpectedly with
status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000 0x00000000).
The system has been shut down.

A few seconds later the system reboots and the same thing happens. It's an
endless loop unless the power button is used to cut power.

I did a repair install from CD. It worked to the point that I was able to
get into Windows XP and even got some work done. However, after I shut the
system down and tried using it again the following day the same problem came
about.
Can someone please help me with this if you might have had to deal with it
or just happen to have the fix. Thanks in advance. Any help greatly
appreciated.

- Windows XP Network >> Windows XP Home Network FrustrationI have been trying, thus far unsuccessfully, to network my Laptop with my
Desktop. Both are running Windows XP Home for which all required updates
have been downloaded.
Computer Browser Service is started on both.
The Workgroup name is NJBPAB, the computers, respectively are named NORM_D
(Desktop) and NORM_L (Laptop).
In the hope that SKP may be able to help and, at the risk of boring everyone

According to article-321305 "How to log on to Windows XP
if you forget your password or your password expires" on
the MS Windows XP support web-site, the only way to
restore a forgotten or corrupted administrator-level
password on an Windows XP Home-Edition environment when
there is no password-reset disk is by performing a "clean"
installation of the operating system. Do any of you know
of a work-around/trick that does not require to do the
entire O/S install?

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Movie Maker CrashingBack on Sept. 9th I posted a query on this board about WMM crashing. I
recieved a lot of good info, help and suggestions. unfortunately, they just
let me get farther along in the movie making process before a crash.
Since that time I've tried a few things and yesterday came up with a
solution that allows the movies to be made without crashing. So, I thought I
would post the info for anyone who may have similar problems.
First, I have about 29 clips ranging from 2 to 20 minutes generated by
PhotoStory 3. Initially I had been making the clips in PS3 using the
PapaJohn DVD Profile (NTSC), which is fine for burning to a data cd. What I
was tring to do was combine clips into larger chapters to make a DVD with
less than 21 chapters. That was where I was using WMM and it bagan to crash.
Yesterday I thought I would see what happens from a quality and crash
perspective if I created the clips using the Profile For Computers 2 (640 x
480) in PS3 and not the special DVD profile created by PapJohn. I remembered
that the quality of those clips was very good.
Next, I imported the clips into WMM to start combining them into chapters
for a DVD. I imported from two to four clips depending on duration to be
combined together.
Using the PapaJohn WMV For DVD (NTSC) profile in WMM I started to combine
the clips. It worked! WMM did not crash and I was able to ocmbine 21 PS3
clips into 7 Chapters for a DVD. Using Papa John's profile allows the clips
to be viewed wide screen and the quality was excellant.
I still have RAM issues with only 756M of RAM on my PC. But, by running a
memory optimizer which shows me how much RAM is available in the task bar and
closing and opening WMM after each combining session I was able to get past
this stumbling block.

I am running Swedish XP Pro version. Thre are frequent
hangs. My Partition Magic 7.0 says "error 993. Partition
contains open files. Use the operating system check
utility". Since I could not find the equivalent in my
system I tried to reinstall XP, but the installation
halted after restart when the program could not read the
file "\$WIN_NT$. ~BT\vga850.fon. Error code 14".
Can anybody help?

Would not boot normally. Boot from XP installation disk displayed choice of
repair or clean installation. On repair, went thru installation to point of
msg that it needed file 'asms' on CD-ROM. Unknown path on CD-ROM.
Downloaded 3 files from MS (1)SP2, (2) KB923191.asms, (3)KB924667.asms. None
of these was what it was looking for. Unable to complete repair of XP
without this file. Clean install would lose program files and data so prefer
not to do that. What next?

I see your point about the 3GB hard drive, so i'll get rid of it. As
for the floppy drive, there isn't one, period. Also, my 80 GB hard
drive -used- to use its full capacity, but I had problems with it so I
let a friend of mine configure my hard drive setup for me. As for my
boot disk, I meant that my boot disk was a retail version XP CD-ROM. My
mainboard make i'm not sure of yet, but i'll get back to you later on
with that one (after i've finished work at 2pm).

Mobo, Nvidia GeoForce 6800. Windows Media Centre 2005 windows xp Home sp2
all updates. No worms, spyware,malware, viruses, trojans etc etc.
I went to download latest security update (KB912919) and it will not
install, why could that be? I have also noticed that all of the text has
disappeared from my Help and Support page leaving only the place markers
where the text should be.

Hi,
Click start/run, type %windir%\windowsupdate.log and click ok. Scroll to the
bottom, then look for the error code associated with the failed installation
(like 0x00000000). Post back with this information.

- Windows XP Setup >> microsoft.net frameworkmicrosoft.net framework has come up as an optional update available from
windows update.
I don't understand what this about and, therefore, I am hesitant to install
it. I would like to know the advantages of installing and the disadvantages
of not installing this update.

- Windows XP Update >> User forced to rebootWe are currently running the latest version of WSUS on Windows 2003 SP1.
The workstations are Windows XP Professional SP1.
We have set the registry settings, so that users will receive and have the
patches applied automatically. We'd like them to have the option to restart
at a later time if they choose to. Same registry settings are applied to
everyone (Admins and non-admins).
However, the non-admins receive the prompt "Your updates have been installed
successfully. To complete installation you must restart our computer. Do
you want to restart your computer now?" The "No" option is greyed out and
cannot be clicked. Only the "Yes" option is available to them.
On the other hand, the admins receive the prompt "Updateing your computer is
almost complete. You must restart your computer for the updates to take
effect. Do you want to restart your computer now?" and they have two
options available, "Restart Now" and "Restart Later".
We'd like all the users to receive the same prompt as the Admins get.

- Windows XP Network >> long time to logon and failed to map network drivesHi,
I am sure whether it happenes to you or not. Sometimes it
takes so long to logon the computer to the domain like 8
minutes or something..and it failed to map those network
drives. I have no choice but to restart the computer once
again. Sometimes the problem is solved after restarting
the computer but it is getting frustrated to do it every
day as a routine. Plus sometimes all the icons and stuff
are gone after logging in.. and I also have to restart
the computer again to make the icons coming back. What
seems to be the problem? I am not logging on at a busy
time either. It would be nice if someone knows how to fix

- Windows XP Security >> Assigning internet access to specific users??We have one machine with Win Xp Pro and have about 15 users. It is connects
to the internet thru a DSL modem. How can I (as an administrator) prevent
specific user(s) from connecting to the internet? I am a firefighter, not a
computer whiz, step-by-step instructions would be appreciated.

- Windows XP >> MSINFO32.EXECan any one help. when I try to start MSINFO32.exe
through the Help and Support Centre I get the
message "Cannot display the page
The page you are trying to view has an incorrect address
and cannot be displayed. Please try another page." If i
try to run this programme I get the same message.

- Windows XP Setup >> RIS and DHCP1.) I am trying to test RIS at home and I only have 1 server can I run DHCP
on the same server as RIS is installed??
2.) Is a Linksys Wireless access point going to work for RIS Setup??
3.) The reason I am asking is that I followed all the procedures and I was
unable to resolve an IP Address and locate the RIS Server.

I have a .bat file which has a command that installs a registry entry. I
have this .bat file execute at system startup through group policy. The
things is it not working at system startup. If i login and execute it, it
will then install. Anyone know why? is it something to do with the system not
being able to access the registry at system startup.

- Windows XP Setup >> Can't see D drive after upgrading to XPI just upgraded to XP (From 98SE). I have a pentium III
500mghz machine with 2 hard drives (c=20Gig(WD), and
d=80Gig(WD)). After I upgrades to XP, windows will not
recognize the D drive (although the device managers see a D
drive, but when I use explorer, it cannot read it and asks
to format it). Also, the device manager thinks that it is a
32Gig drive not 80Gig.

I am having IBM R32 laptop,
when am working without connecting internet, that time
keypad enter key working properly,
but whenever i connect net, and try to compose mail, enter
key not working, i such case to operate enter key i have
to restart the laptop. i was already disscuss this issue
with IBM helpdesk, as per IBM I have update bios ver, load
ser pack 1for xp and IE. scanning done. but problem not
resolve yet.
pls provide solution as soon as possible.
