Windows XP >> Windows XP 64 Currently I run XP Pro on a 32bit machine, I'm thinking to build myself
another PC and considering going to 64bit system but need to keep the costs
low, will XP pro run on a 64 bit machine? and if I upgrade to the 64bit
version how much more performance can I expect?

Yes, XP Pro 32 bit, will run just fine on 64 bit hardware, that is what I
run.

I would hold off on upgrading to 64 bit XP, I would at least wait for Vista
64 bit.

I ran XP Pro 64 bit on a dual boot for a while, back when it was offered as
a demo, but have since gotten rid of it, not enough hardware mfgs' were
supporting it with device drivers at the time.

I did not see a vast improvement in performance on the programs I ran,
however, they had not been written to optimize on the 64 bit code.

I think it will be a while, at least after Vista 64 bit is released, before
it matures to the level it needs to be it.

Yes.

None, if you run the 32-bit version of XP.

Very little, if you riun the 64-bit version, since there are very few 64-bit
programs that can advantage of the improved hardware/operating system

Windows XP >> Windows XP 64 I'm wondering why there are so many 64 bit pc's on the market if there is
little in the way of software??

I was considering going to the AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor but should I just
stick with cheaper 32bit processors?

Because hardware generally leads software, and it takes the software more
time to catch up.

Your choice. It greatly depends on how long you're going to keep the
computer. If you're planning on keeping it for a while, it may make sense to
spend a little more now for a 64-bit CPU.
