- Windows XP Hardware >> I cannot launch HP Imaging programHi,
After installing MS Office 2003 I cannot launch HP Imaging program for
scanning images. Nothing happens when I try. Even if I double click on the
.exe file, it doesn't help.
Is this a known issue?
I tried to uninstall the scanner driver and the imageing program belonging
to it, but something went wrong and the uninstall was not finsihed properly.
It is not possible to reinstall or update the scanner driver and the
imageing program. I seems that some old files are still in the machine.
How can I go around this problem?

M Shafaat

- Windows XP Security >> safe from keyloggerGood afternoon;
can anyone give me information on how to detect any
spyware and keylogging software that is hiding somewhere
on my computer? All this stuff about security and worms

I have anti virus software and a basic firewall, but I
think I still have to worry, don't I?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you.

- Windows XP >> Terminal Services Client 6.0 Not Able to Connect-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Sorry for the cross post but this may be relevant here too. I've posted this to
the Server 2003 group:
I've just done an update to the Terminal Services Client 6.0 via WSUS and RDP
has stopped working. The install ran fine aka w/o errors as far as I can tell.
However, when I try to connect to any machine using either its NetBIOS name,
FQDN, or IP Address I get the following error immediately after I click
connect:
"This computer can't connect to the remote computer. The problem might be due
to low virtual memory on your computer. Close your other programs, and then
try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact your network
administrator or technical support."
I have 1.5GB of RAM and only have about 650MB committed so it's not virtual
memory.
I'm glad I didn't deploy this company wide and instead chose to test it out
first. ;)
Anyone else running into this and if so what have you found towards a solution?
Thanks,
Brian

- Windows XP Network >> Wireless Connection Lost after RebootSorry for x-posting but I wanted to get maximum coverage for this post as
it's really annoying me.
I have a Dell laptop (Latitude D800) with built-in b/g wireless (Dell
TrueMobile 1300) and a Linksys WAP11 Access Point.
On my AP I have WEP swtched on, MAC filtering enabled, and I have disabled
SSID broadcast. I also use static IPs and have DHCP disabled for maximum
security.
They have always worked great together.
Last weekend I formatted my laptop to clean it up and I wanted to install
SP2 (it's Windows XP Pro by the way). Also installed the latest drivers for
my hardware from Dell.
After the format I am unable to connect to the wireless LAN unless I enable
SSID broadcast (which I obviously don't want to do).
If I turn on SSID broadcast, my connection works instantly. I can then
disable SSID broadcast and it continues to work.
However, as soon as I reboot the laptop, my connection is lost and I can't
get it back without re-enabling SSID broadcast.
I have tried it with Dell's software managing the wireless connection and
with SP2 managing the connection. I have even uninstalled all the dell
sofwtware except the driver needed for the hardware and still I get the same
problem.
I don't think it's the Access Point, as I have another laptop with a Linksys
PCMCIA card in and that works fine with the SSID broadcast disabled.
Has anyone got any advice please?

- Windows XP >> Repair/Install issueSomething to think about if for future computer problems. I recently did a
repair/install of WinXP SP2 and had to then install about 80 further
upgrades again. Then upgrade Internet Explorer from version 6.0 to 7.0.
Everything seemed to work OK but my printer was screwing up. It's a USB
printer. I checked the connections and it was good. Then I had a
revelation.
A lot of my external devices like the printer, scanner, USB hard drives I
have powered by a separate power strip. I leave it off most of the time and
only power it up when I need to use one of the external devices. Ding!
Ding! I just thought..... hey, the repair/ install might have lost the info
on those devices. When I power up my computer it "looks" for new devices.
But.... if that external power switch is off on boot up my computer won't
"see" them.
So, this morning before booting up, I powered all my external devices to on
and then booted up. Sure enough, what came up but numerous notices that
Windows had "discovered" a new external device and was setting it up for
use. Now everything works the way it used to.

- Windows XP Network >> laptop connectivity issuesI have a Dell Latitude D600 running XP Pro that has starting having
problems. I can't connect to the internet either wirelessly or through
a wired connection. It gets the wrong IP address and when manually
entered in along with the correct DNS servers and gateway IE 8.0 just
can't find any websites.
A problem that seems to be related is that the computer won't shutdown
completely.

- Windows XP >> Restoring default settingsI would like to know how to restore my default computer settings. The reason
is because when I open a webpage that has sound, it hardly ever comes through
the speakers, maybe 1 out of every 30 pages I go to with sound actually
plays. I've tried changing my "Options" on Internet Explorer to allow for
sounds to be played on webpages, but it hasn't changed a thing. If I can
restore the default computer settings, then maybe it will work.
I'm grateful for any assistance!

- Windows XP Network >> Cannot save files in a network share folder since the latest updatHi, all, hoping someone can help with this one. I have 2 WindowsXP pro
machines and one win98 se machine networked. The win98 machine has a second
drive that houses the data and shared folders. All has worked well until
recently. Now when one of the winXP machines wants to save a new file I get
a, 'network inaccessible error, you may not have permission.....'.
I can save and overwrite a file, I can choose save as and keep the same file
name, but I can't choose save as and name the file something else. Oh, and I
can also save the file to the desktop and copy it to the shared folder
without error.
This problem started about 2wks ago. The bandaid solution was to do a
System Restore, going back to Feb 1 and all started working as it should, but
like I say, that's not a fix it's just a bandaid.
Any help will be greatly appreciated
