am running XP pro sp2 and the other night I tried to add a second monitor

(Westinghouse LCD LTW19). On shutdown, I got a BSOD and stop error 0x7B. I am

unable to boot into safe mode, unable to boot using last known good config. I

tried using chkdsk /r from the recovery console using the WinXP CD but

nothing seems to work. I have disconnected the new monitor throughout this

process, but am still unable to boot.



I found a bunch of info on the stop error displayed in MS Knowledge Base,

but nothing on how to get it to boot up if you can't get into safe mode, etc.



Any suggestions?



P.S.- I took the hard drive out and put another one in with a clean copy of

XP and still got the blue screen and same error. So it appears that the hard

drive isn't the issue. What else could it be and how can I diagnose it?

on it should boot properly in your computer? If that "other drive"

doesn't have the same drive controller you will get an 0x7b error.



Run chkdsk /r again and after it's done issue fixboot command. If it

doesn't work then try a repair reinstall. If your drive is anything but

an IDE drive or if it's an IDE drive on a PCI card controller you may

need to press the F6 key at the beginning of the setup routine and

supply the controller drivers on a floppy diskette.



If you are still having problems then you could try the drive on a

different controller channel, move the drive cable from the primary IDE

controller to the secondary, or move the SATA connection to another one.

It doesn't happen often but these controller do break down on

occasion. If you move the drive to a different controller channel you

will have to adjust rdisk parameter accordingly in the boot.ini file.

Using the MAP ARC command at the Recovery Console will give you the

proper arc path for the drive.
