2 laptops - which gets the OEM?

Windows XP759
I'm getting a new laptop which will have XP Home installed - I'm sure it

will be an OEM from Acer. My old Thinkpad has the retail version of XP I

bought when I upgraded. Is there anyway I can switch so that I have my

retial version on the new one and let the old laptop have the OEM? Would

there be any point to doing that?

The Acer's I have seen come with Windows preinstalled and a restore CD set

or you have to make a DVD or CD set sepending on the model. This means you

are stuck with whatever it comes with. You can order most models with Xp Pro

if you need it.

Re:2 laptops - which gets the OEM?

Nope. OEM versions of Windows XP

cannot be transferred to a different computer.

Please read your End-User License Agreement by going

to Start>Run and type: WINVER , and hit enter. Then

click on "End-User License Agreement".

Acer'S OEM version can not be transferred as per the EULA. It might not be

able to be installed on the IBM, if this OEM version is "bios locked" since it

might be looking for a specific code in the Acer's BIOS.
