- Windows XP Hardware >> CD Writing in Windows XPHello Friends,
I have Windows XP Professional Editon. I usually write CDs
using the inbuilt XP feature. But, the CD that I am trying
to write shows 832MB whereas the CD itself is of 800MB. I
do have same CD but I am unable to write. The message that
I get is somewhat - data in the disk exceeds and cannot be
written.
But, then how the CD might have 832MB.
Any help on this is muchly appreciated.

- Windows XP >> fixed this problemProblem: In xp when you check msconfig you see the same
program twice under both common startup location and
startup location, or in the system tray you see two of
the same icon.
In my case this was caused by me moving things around in
the documents and settings. My documents and settings
has the following folders
Administrator
J
All users
Default user
Localservice
Networkservice
I had moved all my startup to all users and removed the
startup folders from C:\Documents and Settings\j\Start
Menu\Programs\ and from C:\Documents and
Settings\default user\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
This was a mistake because I had move my Lexmark printer
programs to startup in all users as well as zone alarm.
Windows xp then did me a big favor and changing the
following keys.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Explorer\
User Shell Folders\Start up
%all users%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Which was the same as the following key.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Explorer\
Shell Folders\Start up
This loaded the printer and zone alarm twice once at
location startup and once under common startup I did the
following to correct.
I went to windows explorer and made sure I had a startup
folder under
C:\Documents and Settings\default user\Start
Menu\Programs\ if you do not have it make a startup
folder there.
I then went to start the run and typed regedit, and then
went to this key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersio
n\Explorer\
User Shell Folders\Start up
I then right clicked on startup and pick modify and
change just the all users to default user.
%all users User%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup was changed
to
%Default User%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup
Then I restarted my computer and only had the common
startup location for the programs.

- Windows XP Setup >> File and settings transfer wizardI hope someone can shed some light on this. I recently
transfered the configuration from a Dell to a compaq with
the file and settings transfer wizard. At first
everything seemed to be OK. The user than began to notice
that there was a lot of hesitation opening up attachments
and e-mails while working in office XP. The event veiwer
is ful of App errors and .MSI errors. I reinstalled
office and that did nothing to help. Is there something I
should have done before making the transfer?

- Windows XP >> Can't see network drive contents or print after hibernation.Windows XP pro SP2. Dell D830 (also happened on D810 and D820). I
rarely shutdown when I leave for the day (hate to wait for Symantec to
do it's thing when it's a fresh boot). I generally, hibernate at the
end of the day, come out of hibernation at some point at home, work
for a while, hibernate again and then come out of hibernation when I
am at the office the next day. The issue is 9 times out of 10 when I
get in the office again I can't print and I can only see portions of
my network shares. If I access a network drive I may see 5 sub
folders, sometimes 20, where there are hundreds. If I browse to the
the share, same limited contents. I have a few shortcuts to
frequently used documents on my desktop that become inaccessible. I
also cannot print to any of the network printers. All other network
access is fine. The only thing I can find that fixes the issue is to
reboot. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a service I can
restart that will resolve this and keep me from having to reboot.
Thank you.

- Windows XP >> PrinterHi
I have a HP Deskjet printer that I used with a parallel cable for years and
then changed to USB.
I decided to change it back to parallel to free up the USB for a other
device and not thinking, I plugged it in while the computer was turned on.
Now the printer will not work.
Yes I un-installed and then re-installed it and still it will not even
recognize it.
My question, will plugging it in "hot" damage the cable?
Thanks

- Windows XP >> How to work out 'printing per page' costs? Is there a way that I can work out how much printing costs per page in
XP depending on the printer and if in colour, black & white or paper
type?
If there is an online web calculator or an app that will do this (where
I can input certain criteria) then that would be great.
Thanks

- Windows XP Security >> problem xp accessing vistaHi ! I experiencing a quiet strange problem.
I installed a xp pro, not connected to any domain. but I still can access to
the DC by \\server\c$ after being asked for user and password.
But when I try to connect to a regular xp workstation, or vista workstationt
I get " logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type
at this computer".
"use sharing wizard" and "use simple sharing" is disabled on both sides.
But, I if do a network map, specifying the user and password, it works.
So why doesn't it asks for user/password after typing "\\my.pc\c$" ?
thanks !

- Windows XP >> Blocking Emails from coming in...Support:
I know how to block specific emails from ONE SOURCE, but
I am getting dozens of garbage emails or spam, who are
still sending emails to my old Internet Service providers
email address. Comcast had my email address at
manmars@attbi.com, but change it to manmars@comcast.net.
Is there any way to BLOCK all emails still sending to my
old address at manmars@attbi.com, since all of my
associates and customers are now using my new address?
Comcast was not much help. It sounds like a simple
setup, but for some reason the old address has not been
turned off by Comcast for some reason.

- Windows XP Setup >> Resolution will not stay set (Win XP Home)On booting up the resolution starts at 800x600 where it
is supposed to be but then drops to 640x480 after which a
baloon appears saying resolution too low click on baloon
to increase to 800x600. When you do the screen goes black
and finally resets to 800x600 where it should have been
in the first place. This has happened only rcently. When
I go to control panel-display-settings and reset to
800x600 I get NO dialog box asking to "Keep new settings".
I know others have had similar experience. Has anyone
found the solution?

The trouble is that no html files meeting my requirement

Other file types that contain the same word (including .js

Could you please help me solve the problem?

- Windows XP Support >> Constanly getting 'Acquiring network address' message after installing SP2.Hello,
I recently got a friend up and running on a wireless network at home, and
everything works well.
I installed SP2 on his XP Home machine, and everything was fine.
When he got to work and plugged into his office LAN (not wireless) he
started experiencing frequent network disconnects.
I went to have a look and saw that he was getting a 'Acquiring network
address' icon and message popping up on his task bar every few seconds.
Now, his office network uses DHCP, and I can see that he does get a valid IP
with a lease expriring in the future. And he does get a network connection
and can browse the net/check mail for a few seconds before he gets a
'Acquiring network address' message and his network connection is
lost/restored.
So, he appears to get a valid IP and connection, but for some reason it is
resetting every few seconds.
I've googled this and a few others have reported similar issues with no
definitive solution.
Short of doing a repair-install of windows, is anyone aware of this problem
and a fix?
He is also running Norton Antivirus software which I have strongly urged him
to get rid of.
Thanks for any help,
-Randy

Microsoft never had a program called "Outlook 3".
You need to be more specific...

- Windows XP Hardware >> Incorporating C and D in new format partition?Howdy,
When I set up my computer with a large hd, I created a

Is it possible to format C: (primary partition) and D:

without having to reformat the entire hd? (I'd prefer to

Am I stupid?

- Windows XP Network >> Networking not working - please help :)I am setting up a wireless network in our office - MAIN computer running XP,
2ND computer running XP Pro.
We cannot run the Network Setup Wizard on the M computer because there is no
floppy. Also - When it says "Select a connection method", the 2nd option
<This computer connects to the Internet through residential gateway or
through another computer on my network> is pre-selected, but is incorrect.
The MAIN computer is connected directly to the Internet via dsl line.
I did disable Windows Firewall, thinking that might be the problem.
We have identified the resources to be shared on both computers.
The 2nd computer CAN get files from the M computer, and is connected to the
internet. The M computer cannot get files from the 2nd compute r- it says
access is denied.
Please help!! We need this running smoothly today. Thanks SOO much in advance!

- Windows XP Hardware >> RRS9002-86XXF (IR remote paired to RXX6000-0141E)A customer that I am building an HTPC for insisted on 2 things:
Windows XP, because his brother says vista is garbage (ugh), and 4G of ram.
That forced my hand and made my only choice windows XP64.
That said I looked at TV cards that came with a remote and said they were
WinXP64 compatible. I ended up with the Hauppage HVR-1600-MCE card with the
subject line remote and IR receiver.
Here is the probelm: The card installs and appears to work fine as does the
software. The remote on the other hand appears to have no drivers. Since I
have never done it before converting the 32-bit INF into something 64-bit
would be quite a challenge, but I am willing to do it if it will work.
I am hoping that someone here somewhere knows if there is an MS driver for
this remote already in 64bit or can help me make the 32bit one into a 64bit
recognizable file so that it will load and see if it works.
