Windows XP >> pnp doesn't detect new devices XP Pro. Attaching new devices doesn't engage pnp.
Installed XP pro over XP home. XP pro license is from an
old computer that I'm canabalizing for parts.

Have accessed Add/Remove Windows components and under
networking services and discovered the Univerasl Plug and
Play was not checked. Checked the component, have
rebooted, still can't connect new devices, i.e. Olympus
Digital camera, HP DeskJet 932C.

These devices connected and work fine on the old PC.

Any ideas? Should I reinstall XP Pro?

Windows XP1085

Windows XP >> pnp doesn't detect new devices You don't want UPnp(universal plug-in-play). This service is actually the
one the FBI put the warning out about how easily it can be hacked. It was
one of ms's major boo boo's with xp. Uninstall or disable Upnp.
Now, how are you connecting this camera, Usb? If it's usb then go into your
bios and make sure the usb ports are enabled. If they are disabled in the
bios windows will not see devices plugged into them.

Windows XP >> pnp doesn't detect new devices Uninstalled the Upnp. Bios showed USB emulation and
controller both on.

My guess is that something went wrong when upgrading XP.
Is reinstalling XP Pro an option?

Windows XP >> pnp doesn't detect new devices Fixed my, ended up replacing the driver for USB 2.0
Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD.

PNP working like a charm. Immediately recognized the
printer and then recognized the camera once plugged in.

Phew!
