- Windows XP Network >> Limited or no connectivityWe have 2 computers sharing a DSL modem. Since yesterday, the guest computer
has "limited or no connectivity" so can't access the internet. We've not had
problems before and I can't figure out why. In the network connections
broadband is connected, incoming connections reads - no clients connected
(whatever that is?), the internet gateway reads "connecting" and both the
local area connection and local area connection 2 both read connected. Both
computers are XP home edition. What can I do to get the guest computer
working again?
Thanks

- Windows XP Support >> Minimized programsEverytime I try to start a game from the CD-Rom the program starts but
Windows XP minimizes it and it will not let me open it. I can hear the
program running but I can not get to it. If I try to close it down it tells
me it is not responding.

- Windows XP Hardware >> USB Hard Drive Recommendations (w/DOS drivers)Anyone know of a manufacturer that makes USB hard drives (100Gb to 200Gb
range) that also have DOS drivers for them so they will work with either
Ghost 2003 or Drive Image (now a Symantec product). Neither PowerQuest nor
Symantec state any hardware manufacturers in their documentation that the
software will work with. Ironic, since on the box they state works with all
USB hard drives.
Have tried Western Digitals USB 160Gb drive and SimpleTech's 120Gb drive and
neither provides DOS drivers. These are needed when making drive images.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

- Windows XP >> Access Denied on XP shared treeHi All,
You've all heard this before, but please bear with me, just in case I
say something new...
I have a small, 3 PC home network. The PC on which I keep shared
items (the "server") runs XP Pro. It is a newer PC, with a fresh
installation and no old hard drives installed. The other two PC's (the
"clients") run XP Home. If these two were dogs, they'd be mutts. Although
I built all three, these two contain parts I don't even remember putting in
them. All three PC's are up to date with Microsoft Update.
I have a large nuber of shared files on the server for the other two
PC's to access (nearly 15,000 to date). Yes, many are MP3's.
Without exception, all of the files work fine on the server PC. They
do everything that could reasonably be expected of them. On the client
PC's, all of the files appear in Windows Explorer, but that's as far as
"work fine" goes. Many do not play. If I try to copy them from the
server, I get an Access Denied error (permissions, disk full, armageddon,
etc.).
--------
Observations & Trials:
Even though the server PC is new, with a single, new, 80GB hard drive,
and a fresh install of XP, I tried the "take ownership of your
directories" fix. No effect.
I have tried the "turn off simple file sharing" fix. No effect.
Within a given directory, some files are okay, some are not.
There does not seem to be any correlation between a file working or
not, and its size, the length of its name, the order or date at which it
was written to the directory, etc.
In the interest of heading off the smart-asses among us, there is also
no correlation to the genre of the music, the talent of the artist... :-)
Working and "broken" files appear to have the same permissions,
ownership, and other properties set.
The same shared files behave the same way on both of the client PC's.
When I add new files, they are often added "en masse," as I digitize
my old albums and tapes. I generally copy 20'ish files at the same time,
using Windows Explorer, from my "rip and clean" area to the shared area.
When accessed from one of the client PC's, some of the new files work and
some don't.
The fact that both clients act identically, tells me the issue is on
the server. The fact that the files work fine on the server tells me the
issue is with file access, not the files themselves.

- Windows XP >> STM3 S BackmonRecently I have had programs and printers stall and when
checking the task manager, noticed the specific operation
appears twice in the TM, both items labled "not
responding". When I end task, I then get a window
stating showing STM3S BACKMON and the option to END NOW
or CANCEL.
What is this and what do I need to do to correct the
problem?
Thanks

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Problem importing mpeg into Movie Maker 2.0Dear all,
Recently, when I import mpeg files into Windows Movie
Maker 2.0 or MS Producer for Powerpoint 2003 and then
drag the video clip to the timeline, only the audio track
appeared there. When I play the video, no video is played
in the Video Preview window. Instead, a pop-up windows
named "Active Movie" will take control and play the video
outside. I guess some plug-in related to MPEG in the
Windows XP is missing because videos with avi or wmv
format play normally in the above application.
Can anybody have similar experience or find any solution?
Thanks.
Eddie

- Windows XP >> cursor jumping aroundrecently, as I'm typing, the cursor moves to places that are crazy. Like
when I was typing this first sentence, twice the cursor jumped backed and had
me typing in the middle of previously typed text. Sometimes it will delete
what I've already typed as I'm typing and I don't even realize it until it's
too late. When I'm typing an e-mail it will jump to the To or Subject line.
For example as I was typing the last sentence I got to the word e-mail and
the "mail" part ended up at the end of my Subject above. Do you know how I
can correct this?

-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=
-= Capital. Radio - Chris Tarrant -=
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=--=-=-=-=-=
Capital Radio DJs have been "in on it" from the start.. One of the first
things I heard in the summer of 1990 was from. a Capital DJ who said, "If
he listens to Capital then he can't be all bad" (supportive, you see.. We're
not bastards).. Much of what came over the radio in 1990 is now so far away
the precise details have been obliterated by time. No. diary was kept of the
details, and although archives if they exist may give pointers,. the
ambiguity. of what broadcasters said would leave that open to
re-interpretation.
In spring 1994, Chris. Tarrant on his Capital morning show made an aside to
someone else in. the studio, about a person he didn't identify. He said,
"You know this bloke?. He says we're trying to kill him. We should be done
for. attempted manslaughter".
That mirrored something I had. said a day or two before. What Tarrant said
was. understood by the staff member in the studio he was saying it to; they
said, "Oh no, don't say that" to. Tarrant. If any archives exist of the
morning show (probably unlikely) then it could be found. there; what he said
was so out of context that he would be very. hard put to find an explanation.
A couple of days later, someone at the site where I was working. repeated the
remark although. in a different way; they said there had been people in a
computer. room when automatic fire extinguishers went off and those people
were "thinking. of suing for attempted manslaughter".
Finally, this isn't confined to the established radio stations.. In 1990
after I had. listened to a pirate radio station in South London for about
half an hour, there was. an audible phone call in the background, followed
by total silence for a few moments, then shrieks of. laughter. "So what are
we supposed to say now? Deadly torture? He's going. to talk to us now, isn't
he?", which meant that they could hear what I would say. in my room.

- Windows XP Security >> How to delete some, but not all, Temp 'Net FilesOS: XP Home latest security patches

I like to clear IE's cache and get rid of temporary

no transitions or effects in the collections pane. My PC at work was recently

an running WMM 2.1.4026 on WinXP Home SP2 on 1.7Ghz Intel Pentium 4, 1Gb Mem,

- Windows XP >> unusual standby problemI am running a Pentium 2.4 with Windows XP home and whenever I am away
from my computer I put the computer on standby as I've had three power
supplies catch fire and ruin computers. Yesterday I get the message
"the device driver for the 'communications port (COM1)' device is
preventing the machine from entering standby. Please close all
applications and try again. If the problem persists you may need to
update his driver."
there does not appear to be any device operating on communications
port 1. The drivers are something like: "serenum.sys" and
"serial.sys"
when I remove these drivers I then get the same message regarding the
modem. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the modem but it makes no
difference.
Please help.
Thanks,
Harry
