- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> How can I increase the speed of my computer?Does anybody can help me
Sometimes my computer doesnâ??t run as fast as I would like. I have the impression that a program is running occasionnaly in the background: I hear my CPU running (clicking) for no obvious reasons. - Windows XP >> File Access ProblemHello,
My computer (Windows XP Home Edition updated 1/23/04)
will allow me to open graphics (JPEG, TIFF etc.) if I
locate and open them through Windows Explorer. However,
whenever I attempt to access them through an application,
the application locks up and closes. The lockup will
often occur simply by choosing a folder that contains
graphics files.
Any suggestions?

on my home pc and it found a virus called
W32.HLLP.Spreda.B (also called savenow)It had not actually
infected my computer yet. It was quarantined. I followed
the diretions on the norton site to remove it. At the end

followed all directions to a t and thought all would be
well when i restarted. i was wrong. My computer isnow
stuck in a continuous booting loop. The farthest it ever
gets is the black WINDOWS XP screen that shows windows is
loading, then it makes somne noises and starts to reboot.
It does this over and over and over again without stop. I
don't know what to do!!! Is there anyone out there who can

duff motherboard.
I took out my HD and put a blank brand new one in before I took it to the
shop.
They fitted the new MB and said it was booting fine.
I have now connected up the original HD, so just moved the power and data
cables over from the new HD to my original.
It won't boot up. I get a black screen offering to boot nortmally, safe
mode, last good configuration, all options return to this screen. I get the
black Wiundows screen with the couloured window as it boots up.
Apart from take it back to the shop, is there anything I could try?

Windows XP Network >> Unable to add additional shared folders
I have 2 PCs on a home network: XP Pro & XP Home. I have recovered from a
fatal crash on XP Home with a new installation. Data did survive.
XP Home accesses internet via XP Pro and works fine.
2 folders - Shared & user-a - that were previously shared, continue to be
shared. This is true on both computers. Each computer can access two folders
on the other.
I have not been able to share any additional folders, including folders that
were shared prior to the crash.
How should I troubleshoot this?

Make sure that the Server service is started and is set to start up
automatically: Start | Run | services.msc
If that doesn't help, look for relevant messages in Event Viewer:
Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | Administrative
Tools | Event Viewer. For more information, see:
HOW TO: View and Manage Event Logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=308427
If that doesn't help, please reply to this message in the news group
(not by E-mail) with more information to help other people understand
the problem:
1. How are you trying to share additional folders?
2. What exactly happens when you do it?
3. If there's an error message, what does it say?

Since you've changed computer names, I recommend starting over with
file sharing. On each computer:
1. Un-share all disks and folders. For a list of all shared disks and
folders, type "compmgmt.msc" in the Start | Run box, click Shared
Folders, and click Shares. Ignore any with "$" at the end of their
names.
2. Open My Network Places and delete everything in that folder.
3. Re-share the desired disks and folders.
4. Create desired shortcuts in My Network Places.
To access the other computer even if it doesn't appear in My Network
Places, type its name in the Start | Run box in this format:
\\computer

- customize >> Drive letters - how to change?Hello there: I've received excellent help here before, hope you can assist
again.
I've purchased a new hard drive. I made an image (with BootitNG utility) of
my old xp pro. 4 gig. partition. I then formatted the new disk with one 6
gig. ntfs partition, and 4 other logical fat32 partitions (I want to dual
boot linux and need to share files). I installed the new disk as slave,
restored the image to the new 6 gig. partition, swapped the drives around
and booted from the new 6 gig. partition with no problem.
Here are the two situations that I would like help with:
First, the drive letters are not what I'd like them to be. Currently, the
primary ntfs partition on the master h/drive is E:. C: is still the
partition on the (now) slave drive. I'd like the partition I'm booting from
now to be C: but I don't know how to change it. All the other partitions,
well I can learn to live with those letters, but I'd like the primary,
active partition on the master to be C:
Second, the 4 gig. image restored onto the 6 gig. partition leaves 2 gigs.
'unallocated' according to Disk Manager. How can I get those to be used by
the operating system imaged onto that partition?
thanks for the help

- Windows XP Network >> Limited user account problemCan someone help with this problem, pls? I have a network of 11 Dell PCs
running XP Pro. They are all connected to a wireles router. They can all
connect to the internet and browse without problem, but only if I have logged
in as Administrator and switched user. If not, and the first and only log in
is by a limited user account, then the user can't type into the address bar
of IE, loses the Start menu and can't view the log off screen long enough to
click anything.
As a school, I don't want to keep logged in and it means i need to assign
admin rights to teachers so they can log in and switch user before lessons.
This is a huge security risk as they keep letting students see their password.
Many thanks for any help.

- Windows XP Network >> Dial up networking with two PC'sI would like to know if it is possible to dial up to a
remote Pc and share files?
-I have already attempted to create an "Incoming
Connection" on one PC and then a "Dial Up Connection" on
the other PC, they connect and the host is showing that
the guest has connected but that's as far as it goes...
-I tried pinging each ip address and I get no reply. The
host has successfully set up the ip addresses for both
computers and I have made sure that they are on the same
Workgroup...
-Does anybody know if this can be done???
if so how????
PS: both pc's are running windows xp pro and neither have
lan cards, both have modems(obviously)

- Windows XP >> Can I move Root Drive from H: back to C:?Hi All,
Came across a customer that had a neighborhood child

the kid didn't realize he had to disconnect the zip drive
before installing XP. So, the root drive is H:
and not C:, making all kinds of problems with installing
drivers, etc..
Question: is there a way to remap the root drive back
to C: or am I looking at a reinstall of XP?
Many thanks,

- Windows XP Hardware >> SATA drives and Windows XPI am having trouble with Windows XP installing on SATA
hard drives. I created a drivers diskette, so when
Windows begins to install, I press F6 and point it to the
A: drive. It lists all the drivers available and I choose
the one for XP. When XP gets to the point when it shows
the hard drives available for installation, it says that
there are no local drives available. I have confirmed the
installation of the drives by checking them through the
BIOS configurations....the BIOS recognizes that the HD is
there. What other options do I have? Thanks!
