- Windows XP Setup >> xp printer driversHi
I've just been to Lexmarks site to D/L printer drivers and it shows 2
drivers,
CJXP35LE.exe (custom driver for winxp)
and
CJXP35SE.exe (system driver for winxp)
I'm confused wether or not to install both drivers or do I pick one to
install? if so which one??

- Windows XP >> Add local printersHi Frn,
We have locked down our workstation quite heavily, and also our laptop

add printer wizard cannot add local printer the option of local printer is
greyed out.
Please help me to short out this problem how could user those are on users

- Windows XP Support >> No access to drive E: (CD Burner) in Win XPReceived this from a friend who is having trouble "saving"
to his cd burner drive E:
He is using Windows XP build 2600 (etc) SP2
We worked out from me asking him dates etc that the problem
was, with most probability, there before SP2 would have
downloaded automatically.
All his updates are done automatically
When I asked him what program he was using to burn
the file to the CD he doesnt appear to be using anything
else but Win XP.
I use Roxio so dont know whether XP does this or not.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
HIs situation as he writes it:-
"When trying to save to a CD, I get the following message -
You do not have access to the folder 'E:\'
See your administrator for access to this folder."
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Can anyone tell me how he gets access to his CD burner Drive E:.
He says he only has the one account ,
so I assume it is an adminstrator level account.
His CD in Device Manager reads.
DVD/CD=ROM drives COMBI RW16 x 10/DVD

even after sitting all night it will not get any further.

- Windows XP >> Media players - "corrupted" files...NOTA few days ago I played a couple of MP3s that have been sitting on my hard
drive for a long time--files I know are of pretty good quality. They
sounded like absolute crap. Skipping, clicking noises every couple of
seconds...just unbearable. I had backups on CDs, so I did a comparison
using WinDiff--they turned out to be identical, so I figured there was no
point in re-copying them over to my hard drive. I played the backups--they
also sounded like crap, which was puzzling, because I *know* I've played
them all before and they all sounded fine.
For the hell of it just tried playing them again today (the files on my hard
drive, that is)...it's been a couple of reboots since last time. The same
files sounded fine. Windiff says they're still identical to my backups (not
that I was expecting any differently, TBH).
What's the verdict in a case like this? It's not the media players
themselves, 'cuz they (MP11 and Winamp) gave the same results. Corrupted
audio driver state, which a reboot took care of?
It's not the first time I get this...anybody else has had this intermittent
problem?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Paging File gone?I'm using Win MCE 2005 / XP Pro. This morning I booted, and got this
message:
Your system has no paging file or the paging file is too small"
???
I haven't done anything with my paging file since I started using XP
years ago. My boot-up drive is C. I have a couple of partitions on
the internal GD and a partitioned external HD. Last night I defragged
one partition on the external.
Any suggestions?

- Windows XP >> Differences between XP Home Edition and Pro Edition?I just purchased a new laptop computer and thought that
the salesman said it included Microsoft Windows XP Pro
Edition, but I see now that it comes with the Home
Edition. I don't really see this being a problem. And to
tell you the truth, its probably my mistake. But, just
wondering now, what are the differences between the two
operating systems for windows?
I know it came with Microsoft Works, I used to have Works
on my old (we say old, meaning 2 year old computer now a
days) and loved it. Then I started using Word, and became
familiar with Word. Now I see that I'll have to start
using Works again?
Please respond via email.
Thanks in advance to anyone for helping me clear my
confusion.

Windows XP Setup >> What is the MS Realtek AC'97 Audio update????
This "update" downloaded automatically and can't install for some reason. I
tried several times. Now I can't get rid of the update thing next to the
clock. How do I ether install the damn thing or get rid of it? It's 8.7MB.
What does this thing do? It doesn't look like any security update to me.
Thanks

- Windows XP Update >> Update for Windows XP (KB920872)Last night automatic update applied this new update to my home XP system.
It apparently is supposed to fix a stability issue caused by audio drivers.
Unfortunately after the system was rebooted the system no longer had sound.
The problem was fixed quickly enough by uninstalling the update.
Is there an official place Microsoft provides to report such issues?
Thanks.

- Windows XP >> A Strange Ghost vs. Acronis QuestionI'm a bit uncomfortable posting this in windowsxp.general, but the group has
received similar categories of question in the past and I don't see any more
appopriate group. So apologies if warranted!
I backup my computer daily to a Maxtor external drive using the Retrospect
Express product. It had been working fine for well over a year, but had
suddenly started having software failures, making it unusable. Similar
reports are trickling into the appropriate Retrospect web site's forum, and
there is anecdotal evidence that it has to do with changes introduced to the
Windows environment by the installation of IE 7. That's just background info,
not relevant to the query to follow:
Therefore, I've started using Acronis v. 8 (I realize it's not the latest;
it's what I have) to backup the entire partition to another homebrew external
drive on demand. That's a 7200 RPM Hitachi drive via USB2, of course, and for
what it's worth the machine in question is fairly high-powered - striped Raid,
dual processor, etc, etc. It is taking roughly an hour to back up the
partition at max compression - I'm only using about 25 gigs of my 600 gig
disks. I realize that the max compression is costing me some time.
I just was chatting with a coworker about backup, and he showed me his Western
Digital external drive connected to his Dell laptop (D610) that he uses as his
main machine at work. He has a 40 gig disk which is just about full, so he
actually has more data than my 25 gigs on the home desktop.
He uses Ghost 10 to backup his partition. You should have seen my jaw drop
when he said that he does it automatically every hour, because it only takes
four minutes!
So here is this rather ordinary laptop, far less powerful and fast than my
home desktop, backing up roughly 50% more data via similar USB2 interface in
roughly 1/15th the time that it's taking me.
Both products are well-regarded, I'd opine.
Can anyone pound some sense into my head as to what's going on here. I am
unable to fathom this huge apparent discrepancy in backup times for the two
similar products.
