sharing an internet connection on a home network

Windows XP Network >> sharing an internet connection on a home network My computer is networked to a router where other computers share an internet
connection. I would like to have my computer share it's connection with my
bluetooth pda. However, in the Internet Connection Sharing process, my
computer must be assigned the same IP address that the router must be
assigned. Is there anyway my computer can be setup as an access point for my
pda without the IP address mess. Thank you very much for your help in
advance.

Not really, not that I'm aware of anyways - or at least not natively. What
you'd have to do, as far as I know, is disable the router's DHCP and assign
the IP address of 192.168.0.1 to the PC you want to use as the ICS server.
That PC would then handle DHCP and the rest of the PCs would IDEALY be kept
with the same configuration in that they'd still get the IP address
automatically. Often times this doesn't work so very well though. Someone
might have an alternative but if you wanted to use ICS that's pretty much
how you'd start to tackle it. Sometimes you need to add the workgroup
(usually mshome.net) to it and set the DNS to resolve to the 192.168.0.1
address which is a lot of work and not even then is it always effective.

As a side note, the last time I tried this I could not access the web
interface for my router to set it back to handle the DHCP and stop using the
static IP address for the host machine. It resulted in needing to find the
reset button and setting the entire thing up again. Hopefully someone will
have an easier way for you so I guess I'd avoid using ICS with your current
configuration if at all possible.

Some possible solutions:

1. Most home broadband routers let you configure them through a web
interface. If you can do that on your router, change its LAN IP
address to a different subnet, such as 192.168.1.x. You can probably
access the router's web interface, for now, at http://192.168.0.1

2. Install two network adapters on your computer, create a network
bridge between them, connect the router to one of them, and connect
the PDA to the other one. For more information:

3. Do you need to share files and printers with the other computers?
If not, you can get a new router to give Internet access to your
computer and the PDA. Connect the new router's WAN port to the cable
that now connects to your computer, and connect your computer and the
PDA to the new router's LAN ports. Configure the new router to use a
subnet other than 192.168.0.x for its LAN. If you want wireless
access on the PDA, get a wireless router.
