Then you should not have to struggle with the web interface.
This WindowsUpdate group ought to open up in Outlook Express,

- Windows XP Security >> Recovering data from folders made privateI had several folders made private when my motherboard
fried itself. Instead of formatting the hard drive when I
re-installed windows after the new motherboard, I bought
a new hard drive and now use that as my main drive. I
want to get the files out of the folders on my old drive
but it says access is denied. How can I access these
files? This is on win xp home edition.

after 3 or 4 clips have been added, mm crashes and sends an error report. The
advice from MS is that it could be my c-media drivers, however I have the
most up to date drivers available.
anyone encounter such problems? is there a fix?

- Windows XP >> Taskbar has duplicate toolbars and empty toolbarsI have duplicate toolbars on my taskbar showing the open applications. I've
turned off all toolbars and reset them but it keeps doubling the open

I've closed all toolbars but can't seem to close that one without any
information on it. Has anyone delt with this and how?

- Windows XP Support >> Deletion of Rundll32Yup. I deleted it. I misread something about it & deleted it. It's gone, I
deleted it through SB Search & Destroy's secure shredder. I know it wasn't
smart of me & no I'm not an idiot on the computer. I'm using XP home edition.
I can't find my Windows XP cd, but I do have my Restore CD. I'm not going to
restore my computer, but if there is a way to get it off of there then maybe
I can do that. If I can go to microsoft support & get it from there then let
me know. I'd like some help quick. It doesn't hinder me majorly, but I can't
do my control pannel, or other standard system stuff like that.

- Windows XP Support >> Windows update sp2I gaily clicked on the windows update that I was told were ready for my for
my somewhat old laptop. Disaster. The start up tool bar has disintegrated,
most of the programmes like system restore, tools etc are corrupted and now I
cannot even reinstall my ethernet device. I have masses of vital information
and documents that i cannot access. This is a total disaster - what can I
do?
Anyone know?

- Windows XP Setup >> Upgraded to XP from 98I have recently upgraded to XP from Windows 98. I am having such memory
problems! I have 8.78 GB used space and only 774 MB free right now (and
that's good.) I have 320 RAM so I am not sure what the problem is. I have
defragmented and cleaned up my disk space many times. I have deleted any
programs I haven't used recently. Does anyone have any other suggestions??
I am at a complete loss.
THANKS!

Hi
0x8024402c is:
WU_E_PT_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED
Winhttp SendRequest/ReceiveResponse failed with 0x2ee7 error. Either
the proxy server or target server name can not be resolved.
The only thing I can find about this error is that for one person,
it was solved by opening for Internet access to svchost.exe in the
firewall.

1. Remove invalid characters from the proxy exception list and then
clear the proxy cache.
Open Internet Explorer.
On the Tools, select Internet Options.
Click on the Connections tab.
Click on the LAN Settings.
Click on the Advanced button.
Please delete any entry in the Exceptions section.
Next, clear your proxy cache.
Click on Start, and then click Run.
Type cmd in the Open box to get a DOS prompt.
Type proxycfg -d at the command prompt, and press Enter.
Type net stop wuauserv at the command prompt, and press Enter.
Type net start wuauserv at the command prompt, and press Enter.
Now try the site again.

- Windows XP Network >> Windows Firewall of SP2 slows down LAN sharingHi,
Tested with XP SP2 to share files with a Windows-2000 client PC, if
Windows Firewall is turned ON, the workgroup computers who are running
on WinXP SP2 will be listed after for a very very long time.
If Windows Firewall is turned OFF, the LAN workgroup computers
connection is established in a very short time, and the files which
are shared will be listed and files are listed in a very short time.
That's a negative point of Windows Firewall.... Comments?
Thanks.

- Windows XP >> Network Monitoring Program more simple than "MS Network Monitor v3"?Hi, i have been appointed the "sysadmin" of my small organization's
network (since i supposedly know more than anyone else here,
debatable) and my first task is to find the bandwidth hogs and IM
slackers.
We have a linksys router and everyone insists on using windows so it
is more or less a windows network. We do not have a server (yet, i am
lobbying the director but its an uphill battle) so i don't have a
computer where all the traffic goes through. I found MS Network
Monitor v3.x (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933741) and it *seems*
to do what i need like view network traffic w/o being installed on a
server only problem is that it is waaaay over my head and i have
little concept of how to filter/interpret the data.
I am trying to find a free app (lobbying my boss for a server is hard
enough as is w/o investing in even more software) that will simply
allow me to identify the sites users are visiting, how much they are
down/uploading, what they are down/uploading, and the services they
are using and how often they are using them (mainly instant
messaging), etc etc etc. And of course the information needs to be
understandable by someone like me (ie "advanced user" but not hacker/
sysadmin/guru).
Any help or suggestions would really be appreciated!
Cheers

- Windows XP Support >> Unable to supress extra line in mail merge in Office Word 2007I'm trying to to create a mail merge set of mailing labels. I'm using the
mail merge wizard and am pretty sure that I'm inserting the fields correctly.
Some records have a company field and others do not. The ones without a
company field display with a blank line. Can't figure out how to suppress
the extra line. I've just upgraded to Office 2007 and am flummoxed as the
previous incarnation suppressed blank lines by default.
I'll be so grateful if someone can help.
Thank you!

- Windows XP Network >> Standby & wake on lan -problemHello,
I'm running a web server on my Win XP SP1 machine. To enable waking of the
computer from standby by requesting a web page on the web server, I've set
NIC Power Management option to "Allow this device to bring the computer out
of standby."
This works fine, only now my problem is that the computer resumes from
standby by itself in every few minutes even when there is no network traffic
between the computer and internet.
If I unplug the computer's network cable from the external adsl modem, the
computer won't resume from standby by itself, but obviously neither can the
computer be connected from internet.
Or if I change NIC Power Management options to "Only allow management
stations to bring the computer out of standy.", the computer won't resume
from standby by itself, but needs a magic packet to wake up. However the
magic packet -scenario is not implementable in my case.
Could it be that the network traffic between the computer and the external
adsl modem is causing the computer to wake up? If so, how can that be
avoided other than using the ways described above? Or is there some other
source that is triggering the NIC to wake up the computer?
