- Windows XP >> Help - Uh Oh - I deleted some temp files that I apparently NEED!Remember the good ole days when deleting your temp files was a way to clean up your system? It did the same thing with XP and now several programs (including Explorer) crash when trying to open large files.
Most all of my graphic programs will crash when I try to save or when I scroll through files with explorer. I think some GOOD temp files are gone?? Any help?? Anything

- Windows XP Setup >> Server connection conflicts ???This relates to a new installation of Windows Xp Home.
Adsl installed and using IE and Outlook Express.
Problem: When the internet is accessed by clicking on the ISP's icon, it
fires up and connects no problem. However, when trying to send mail from
Outlook Express it comes up with an error stating server issue. Same happens
with IE. All account info is correct.
However if the internet is fired up by clicking on Outlook Express and then
the logon screen, everything works fine.
Clearly there is some setting that is causing this. Can anyone help?

- Windows XP Support >> Bad,bad, bad: NO Sync software can handle RENAMED and MOVED files !I was searching for a really good sync software which is able to recognize
renamed and moved files. But much to my surprise all of the tools I have investigated so far
are very dumb. The maximum they detect is if a file exists on the other side or not.
Is calculation a (CRC32) hash of files really so difficult?
That way a rename or a move of a file can be detected without problems.
I have tried out so far:
SyncBack(SE)
InSync
SmartSync
Allway Sync
All these programs view renamed files as two independent programs and suggest them (in the preview mode)
them to copy to the opposite side. As a result I got TWO files.
Maybe some guy here knows another tools which is able to detect RENAMES and MOVES.

Windows XP Hardware >> Keyboard Hot-Button
I purchased a new PC (e-machiine T2865) on Tuesday of
last and I'm attempting to reconfigure the keyboard
internet hot-button. What I'd like to do is set the hot-
button so that when I press it my high-speed internet
connection launches. Right now when I press the button
the dial connecton (AOL) launches. How do I make this
change a reality?

made no difference. I also have another program, Power Director Pro and
this does the same thing so I am unable to do any Movie work.
I have read many articles, thougt at one stage Codecs may be the problem,

Any one any ideas as to what might be wrong. The computer functions well in

- Windows XP >> bug: auto-arranges despite being switched off [Windows Explorer]Hi,
To reproduce this bug:
Create a folder with the auto-arrange option switched off (under View->Arrange Icons by...).
Now, drag and drop a few different icons into this folder (don't drag and drop folders, as they seem to work OK).
Sometimes they will stay where you drop them; and sometimes they will be added as if auto-arrange was switched on (that is, they will be placed neear the top right-hand corner, if room is available).
The behavor can differ for exactly the same icon, if you move it back and forth between the desktop and the folder a few times. It seems that icons that represent folders are always placed correctly.
WHY THIS IS IMPORTANT
My desktop gets messy, and I would like to use folders as virtual desktops, with different categories of icons within them. The physical placement is very important for me, because it helps me to find things. I would like to be able to
select a group of icons on the desktoip, and shift them into a folder, while retaining their placement relative to each other.
I'm using Windows XP Professional:
Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp2.030422-1633 : Service Pack 1)
and I've installed many of the auto-update patches.
Thanks for any help with this.
Brendan
BTW: Is there a way to report a bug to Microsoft?

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Hieroglyphics instead of text on boot upGrateful of any suggestions on this problem.
On boot up Windows Home edition XP shows all descriptions of apps and file
names as hieroglyphics /symbols. all programmes work OK and files when copied
to another PC work OK with correct readable file descriptions.
I have tried running restore without success as well as reinstalling
Windows and updating the BIOS. Problem persists when started in safe mode.
Problem happened after PC had been on a few days and when restarted got a
blue screen which disappeared too quick to read.
PC uses AMD 2800 Athlon / ASUS A7N8X Deluxe M/Board / 128mb ATI Radeon
9600XT video card.
Thanks in advance

- Windows XP Hardware >> Exchange 2003/Raid DrivesHello, forgive me if this is not in the correct category, but my problem
spans a number of areas.
I am running a Dell Dimension 2400 machine. It is a celeron 2.6g with 1GB
ram. I have also added three extra internal IDE HDDs. As my motherboard did
not have spare IDE ports, I installed a raid card to allow me to connect up
to 4 additional IDE devices, to which I have connected my three additional
HDDs (note: the C drive is still connected to the motherboard direct). I
have not used a raid configuration on my drives as I do not know what one is,
or how to go about configuring it.
All was well until January when I installed Microsoft Office Professional
2003, when the computer began to stop randomly displaying the classic Windows
blue screen with a STOP 0x000000B8 message. It took me a while to figure out
what was causing it, during which time I formatted my C and re-installed
windows. However, as soon as I installed Office again, the problem started.
By googling the error message STOP 0x000000B8 I came accross this site:
http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange_2003_clustering.htm
(about 2 thirds of the way down the page) which suggested that the problem
was related to the Exchange 2003 component which is bundled with Office 2003
i believe. However, it refers to it in relation to running an e-mail server
which I am not doing.
Interestingly, the problem only seems to occur when I am at university and
connecting to the net through the university LAN. When I am at home in the
holidays, connecting to the net through my wireless network within my home,
the problem does not present itself.
If anyone could offer any assistance, or even suggest somewhere I might find
a 'cure', then it would me much appreciated.
Regards,
