- Windows XP Network >> Trouble with router free wirelessHi, I have had trouble getting my wireless network to function properly, i
used a link on this site to get it going, and can view files on both the
desktop and laptop on each other, however I cannot get the internet
connection shared.
Both XP firewalls are off, zone alarm on host is allowing it, and on the
client laptop i even get the shared internet gateway thing come up in network
connections, and both connect recieve and send packets to each other... not
sure where exactly the problem lies, and yes my net connection is selected to
be shared, hope you can shed some light.
Cheers,
Chris

- Windows XP >> System ToolsI don't know what happened in XP but all of a sudden all the programs listed
under Start>ProgramFiles>Accessories>SystemTools have disappeared - all
except the Character Map function. I have found the files lurking in the
System folder etc. My question is - how can I bring back the shortcuts
listed in System Tools for these :
Backup - %SystemRoot%\system32\ntbackup.exe
Disk Cleanup - %SystemRoot%\System32\cleanmgr.exe
Disk Defragmenter - %SystemRoot%\System32\dfrg.msc
Files & settings Transfer - %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\usmt\migwiz.exe
System Info - "C:\Program Files\Common
Files\MicrosoftShared\MSInfo\msinfo32.exe"
System restore - %SystemRoot%\System32\restore\rstrui.exe
I can't find System Tools when in Explore and I don't know what to do. Any
help would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

- Windows XP Support >> Can't open outlook98 pst filesI installed XP on my new motherboard which would not run windows 98. I kept
Outlook 98 and its been running fine for several months. I'm now trying to
open personal folders (.pst files) which I had on '98 and they are asking
for a password. I didn't create passwords or multiple users when I
installed XP, and didn't use them on 98 either. Is there a way to get to
those archived folders?
I see a "log off mark" option in the start menu but I'm afraid if I do
that, something strange will happen as I've never done that since
installing XP. If it thinks I've made a password for mark, I'm dead.
Thanks in advance,
Mark

Windows XP Setup >> no disk error message - csrss.exe
When my PC boots, I get a Windows - no disk error message (retry, cancel,
continue - cancel is the only thing that works). Task manager associates it
csrss.exe as the appropriate process. Can you please suggest how I can make
this go away?
Many thanks, Helen Ryle

Windows XP Setup >> no disk error message - csrss.exe
Helen, the csrss.exe file is located in the folder C:\Windows\System32. In
other cases, csrss.exe is a virus, spyware, trojan or worm! It's a
important core system file. Do a Search for csrss.exe. If it turns up
anywhere other than the System32 folder
delete if you can.

- Windows XP Support >> recovery using Cds from manufactureI recently installed a new hard drive and attempted to load windows xp back
in using a full install.
My problem is that not all the programs are loading off the cd's
and getting an incomplete installation of OS
most that i could indentify are software bundles
The disk ran all through 1-6. Then started copying files.
Here are the errors
FILE : Windows\Systems32\PNCT.DLL
Problem in extracting process:
FILE:Documents and settings\all users\documents\my music\sample
music\Beethovens symphony9(scherzo).wma
FILE: Program file\intellimover demo\data transferd demo.exe
FILE:Program
files
\sonic\mydvd\styles\pal\DefaultMotionStyles_Lite\DefaultMotionStyles_Lite\Generic1MotionPal.mpg
FILE:Program Files\WildTanget\Games\Game Channel\Dark Orbit\movie.wmv
now here is my question ? It appears that its bundled software and not
windows that is not loading. Can I get around this or should I go back to the
manufacture for another set of disk
These were purchased from COMPAQ as replacement start up disk
Thanks for the help

- Windows XP Setup >> Windows XP Installation with Different CPUI created a bootable hard drive by copying one in use
(with a PIII 933 processor). (I used the MaxBlast 3
software with Maxtor drives.)
Now, I want to use the new drive in a computer with an
Athlon XP 2400+.
Windows is not starting, and I saw a message that
said "there was a change of processor".
Is there a way I can use the hard drive without
reformatting and reloading Windows?
Thanks

- Windows XP >> Offline Files and Read-Only documentsNot sure whether this is the place to post!
I have a laptop and a desktop. I use Offline files on the laptop to
synchronise my document data store with the desktop.
When the desktop is not turned on, all the Offline files on the laptop are
Read-Only. I thought that the idea of Offline files was that I could edit
them and then when I connect to the desktop they would then be synchronised?
is there a setting somewhere I've missed?

- Windows XP Network >> Cannot Set Up 2-puter LANI can't even get my LAN going with 2 computers. Both
came with Ethernet NIC cards already installed. Both
came with Windows XP already installed. I bought a CAT-5
crossover cable and plugged it into the back of both
computers. I should be able to just go, but both
computers say "network cable unplugged."
The way I see it, either:
(1) I have a bad cable.
(2) I have the wrong CAT-5 cable.
(3) There's something about XP that's eluding me.
Any thoughts?

- Windows XP Hardware >> Dead Hard DriveHi, I have a hard drive that recently stopped working due to a fall
onto carpet from about 2 feet. It is an internal Seagate drive,
mounted in a Dynex (Best Buy brand) external case. I've been
researching what my options are to salvage my data, but I'm confused
on a few things.
First, I'm unsure whether or not my error is from the logic board
failing or from a mechanical failure within the drives/platters. The
drive starts up fine and begins spinning, but after a few seconds
stops, pauses, and starts again. There is NOT a clicking noise,
however. I've heard that this is the same as the drive clicking, but I
am unsure. I've read recently that people have had issues with logic
boards being broken/fried, so I was wondering if this could be the
problem. Perhaps buying a copy of the same drive would allow me to
replace the logic board with the new, functioning one, saving me a
considerable amount of money from asking a professional to extract my
data (something I can't afford). If it is not related to the platters,
it seems my chances of data are better.
How can I tell if it is a logic board error or a platter/mechanical
failure?
Also, if it IS mechanical, does anyone know any methods to get the
data? I don't need all of it so I don't need a terribly long uptime,
but there are some things on there I'd really like to have. The only
method I've seen that seems to work at all is to freeze the drive for
24 hours and hope the parts shrink and slide into place. However, I'd
like to do this as a last (or close to last) resort, as the
condensation can damage the drive permanently.
If anyone has any help, please let me know.
Thanks,
Adam

- Windows XP >> Can any kind soul kindly point me to SIMPLE instructions for SlipStreaming SP2Can any kind soul kindly point me to SIMPLE instructions for
SlipStreaming SP2 into Windows XP
And
give me a list of XP files that I need to download to do
that.
Objective: To upgrade my XP to XP SP2, so I can be
"current", and MAINLY so that I can access all 200 Gb of my
200 Gb HDD.
I have the software, called nLite, and I have .NET.
I started downloading XP upgrades/updates, got about 50 of
them,
but got interrupted, and now I can't find the download page.
:-(
And the one-page set of instructions I found was written by
someone who speaks English as their second language, and the
instructions were unintelligible.
The instructions I got:
"First you ...
Then you...
But before you do that, you have to...
(before "first", or before "then" ?)
THEN, you....
But first, you must...
and then...
(does the "But first: come BEFORE "THEN" or between?)
Be sure, before you do ANYTHING, that you...."
What the ??????
Thanks in advance.
I have a 200 GB hdd, brand new, and I'm only able to use 130
Gb of it.
I'm not going to get my 300 Gb until I know how to access
the whole thing!
