- Windows XP Support >> Are there Anti-SPAM-tool comparisons / tests ?If I look at the market there are dozends or even hundreds of Anti-Spam-tools
available for POP3 eMail filtering.
What I am missing are comparisons resp. tests between all these Anti-Spam tools.
What are the detection rates for a set of lets say 10000 typical eMails ?
How much is the percentage of false positives (=non-spam eMails which are classifed as spam)
Does someone know such a comparison web page ?

- Windows XP >> Goback 3.0I have read in many reviews for Goback 3.0 that it permits installation onto
several hard drives on one computer. I have tried many times to reinstall
Goback in the hope it will allow me to protect the extra hard drive I have
installed although at no time during the custom install does it prompt me
for protection of the second drive. Could anyone confirm that Goback 3.0 is
able to protect multiple drives in Win XP, or suggest any ways that I might
be able to fix this problem?
Many thanks

- Windows XP Support >> Icons Gone!Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum.
I did a quick search for my problem but couldn't find anything in
previous threads.
Basically, the icons for "My Computer", "My Documents" and "My Network
Places" have been replaced by the generic Windows "Unknown File" icon,
and I don't know why. I've run a virus scanner (F-Secure) with the
lastest definitions installed and it came up blank. I've not noticed
any other problems.
If anyone knows how I can get my icons back, it'd be much appreciated.

Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Start Up Tasks
Okay, you know how in Windows 98, in system information, you could select the programs you want/don't want to run when you start up by clicking on a check box? Is there one for Windows XP? If so, where?

Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Start Up Tasks
Using Msconfig to shut off Auto-Start programs
. Click Start, then go to Run, then type in: msconfig
. Click on the Startup tab at the top, this will show a listing of programs
that auto start when your computer is first booted. If you uncheck the box the
program will no longer auto start and sit in your system tray /notification area
when you boot. You'll need to reboot before this takes effect.
Another way to do this would be to go to the program that is in your system
tray/notification area and you may find the settings to remove them from the
auto start, most programs have this listed in the properties section.
All about that startup

- Windows XP Support >> Fonts missing in Windows XP desktop propertiesHi,
I'm running Windows XP Pro and I'm having a problem with fonts.
I have dozens of fonts installed, and they show up in c:\windows\fonts
folder, and in applications like MS Office, Notepad, Wordpad, charmap, etc.
However, if I right-click on the desktop, select Properties, then Appearance
tab, then click on the Advance button, only 5 fonts show up in the font list
for various GUI elements like menus and windows title bars.
How do I make the other fonts available for GUI elements ?
Thanks.

- Windows XP Hardware >> mainboard queryHi,
My PC has died on me, and I only bought it a few months ago. I was getting
long single beeps and tried to test the RAM , but I think I've compounded
the problem now. I bent a capacitor with too much force and also the battery
doesn't fit back into place securely anymore. Now the fan and drives fire up
but no video. (FIC P4M-800T motherboard)
My question, if I want a good quality motherboard to replace my old and
possibly rebuild this thing from its partsh . What should I be looking for?
I have a P4 chip with HT and I plan to use my ATI graphics card . I will
probably need to replace my memory too with
Or is there a possibility that my motherboard can still be fixed and how?

- Windows XP Support >> Windows Firewall/ICS Service will not startEver since I unistalled Norton Personal Firewall for some reason my Windows
Firewall would not start. Then i read the error message it gave me: We're
sorry. The Security Center could not turn on Windows Firewall. To try turning
on the firwall yourself, go to Windows Firewall in Control Panel. In the
Windows Firewall dialog General tab, select On (recommended) and click OK.
But the problem is when i try to do this it gives me a new message that says:
Windows Firewall settings cannot be displayed because the associated service
is not running. Do you want to start the Windows Firewall/Internet Conection
Sharing (ICS) service? When i click yes it says: Windows cannot start the
Windows Firewall/Internet Conection Sharing (ICS) service. So then i even
went into Adminstrative Tools and then looked at the Services. Whenever i
found the Windows Firewall/Internet Conection Sharing (ICS) service I tried
to start it and it said in yet another message: Could not start the Windows
Firewall/Internet Conection Sharing (ICS) service on Local Computer. Error
10047: An address incompatible with the requested protocol was used.
Any ideas on how to fix it? It's annoying having to see the dang Message
Bubble everytime I start my computer and the icon staying.

- Windows XP Network >> Dial up networking not being establishedHi all,
I have a problem with my HP laptop running on XP
professional. I am unable to establish any sort of a dial
up connection.
I mean, it detects my modems correctly ( when i use either
my Nokia USB modem, or my Agere 56K) and there is a
connection established in my taskbar. But there is no data
transfer, and data sending freezes after the initial
connection
Can somebody please help me, as I am unable to use my
mlaptop while travelling.

- Windows XP >> Maximum number of open windows?I heard somewhere that Win XP has a max of 17 or 19 open windows. Is this
true? Can it be changed through settings?
I keep running out of browser windows. Sometimes, if I have two or three
apps running (like Notes, Outlook and Dreamweaver), I can only open 4 or 5
brower windows in IE. After that, there is no right click menu any more, or
nothing happens when you click "open in a new window".
The PC is a 3.5 GHz P4 with 1GB of ram, so that should not be a limitation.
I am running Windows XP Professional SP2 in a corporate network with machine
admin rights.
Can anyone throw any light on this limitation?
Tony
