- Windows XP Network >> Can Hotfixes Cause Wireless Network problemsI have a Linksys WRT54G Wirelss G router and a WPC54G
Wireless G Notebook adapter. I've been trying to get them
to work for 2 weeks. I've had several conversations with
Linksys techs. Today one told me that Hotfixes download
for Windows XP can interrupt wireless operations. Is that
true? If so, what Hotfix could be causing the issue?

- Windows XP Support >> Color Boxes Around Desktop IconsEarlier today I had a virus/spyware infection on my computer. It messed up
my desktop background and I was finally able to reset it and fix it through
this board.
Now I have another problem, the Icons on my desktop which used to be
transparent so I could see my background through them now have a color box
around them. I know that when I right-click and go to properties-desktop I
have the option to change the color of the boxes around the Icons, however I
would like to remove the color box completely and take my icons back to being
transparent.
I scoured the boards and there are the solution attempts I have already made:
Right-click on My Computer-Properties-Advanced-Performance Settings
The CUSTOM button is checked and when I scroll down the "Use Drop Shadows
for Icon labels" is checked.
I have unchecked and hit apply then gone back and rechecked and hit apply
It does not fix the problem.
I have also gone through the 4 steps which a poster says must be fixed in
order for the transparent boxes to appear. I meet all of the requirements
for the steps however the problem is still not fixed.
Please someone help me I have been at this two days straight now!
Thanks

- Windows XP >> Text-to-speechI type a lot of long documents in MS Word on an XP
machine. Often, I don't have time to have others proof
read my stuff and prefer my readers think my education
wasn't a waste. Many years ago (Windows 3.1 days) I used
to have a little app that would read my text back to me.
It sounded very "computerish" but got the job done. I
could at least catch grammatical and gross spelling
errors.
I've fiddle around with text to speech in Windows XP but
can't make it do very much. Am I on the right track in
assuming this will read back written text? If so, can
anyone point me to instructions (for the lay person) on
how to configure it.
My hardware/software is as follows:
-Intel D845WN MB w/P4 2.0Ghz
-512MB RAM
-MB-integrated sound
-Windows XP Pro SP1 and all the latest updates
-MS Office XP Pro w/SP2
Thanks for your help

- Windows XP Network >> Automatic Network Login for Windows 95 for connecting to Windows XHello All,
I am able to connect [share drive] between Windows 95 and Windows XP Pro
successfully in both directions.
The only problem I have is that Windows 95 doesn't have any parameter for
USER NAME within it's NET USE command. Hence, it uses the Login User Name
while connecting to Windows XP Pro machine.
I want to use Automatic Login feature of Windows 95 using Registry Hacks as
described in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q152104
It works for bypassing Logon Prompt only. It doesn't work for really LOGIN
as NET USE command fails after that.
Because after that if I use NET USE command, then Windows 95 mentions that I
must logon and then only I can use NET USE.
Can anyone help me how to LOGIN automatically so that I can use NET USE
command from Windows 95?
Waiting to hear from you.
Thank you.
Regards
Partha

- Windows XP Support >> Problem with attachments.I have had a couple people who use Outlook Express for their email,
tell me that they can't open .wmv movies that I send to them. They
report getting the following error message:
Cannot find file://:c:\qualcomm\eudora\attach\(file name).wmv. Make
sure path or Internet address is correct.
The last complaint I received, the guy replied to my letter, and the
file that I attached played just fine for me from his reply, so the
file is getting sent.
I have Eudora set for MIME encoding of attachments, and to put text
attachments in the body. Can anyone tell me any suggestions on how
they can see my videos? Is this a Outlook Express problem or something
I'm doing?

- Windows XP >> different user accountsHi,
I have an XP machine with two different user accts. One
works fine, the other doesn't. both are adm's. Everytime
I open a program on the bad one, such as Word Or IE6 or
OE6, the cpu usage goes to the max, and then basically
dies. I can connect to my DSL thru the good acct, but not
thru the bad one. I ran Ad Aware, didn't find much. Any
ideas, since most of my stuff is on the bad acct. Had to
run AdAware thru the good user acct, as it wouldn't even
install thru the bad one. Tried repairing IE, says it
can't.

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> dvd help from the gods please!Hi guys and gals, i'm new to this site and film making in general. I have
been making movie files in windows movie maker 1 and want to burn to DVD. My

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Problems with RegistryI tried to update my anti virus the other day. When I did the whole system
went caput! I got everything up and running, except for a program called
hypershare. When it tries to startup, I get a message that state:
COM object with CLSID {0006F03A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046} is either not
valid or not registered.
Then another window pops up and it states
Hypershare was unable to update the registry properly to insert a schedule
checking server. Potential reasons for this can include:
-A corrupt or damaged registry
-Software which inhibits registry access/modifications
The specific message given was Object reference not set to an instance of an
object.
I did system restore to get back to what I had before the install, but I can
figure this out - any ideas?
When using regedit, I get a message that states cannot access the registry.
I tried to import and it would not let me.
It did allow me to install a new security suite and its working fine.
Thanks

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> PAPAJOHN---WRONG AGAIN LOLHello fool,
A friend of yours just pointed this out to me....its from one of your much
vaulted newsletters LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL
? A new third tab in the Tools > Options window shows a list of filters (codecs)
on the computer, and lets you uncheck any that you want to not get in the way of
Movie Maker. Un-checking one immediately removes it from the picture without
effecting other software that uses the same item. You don't need to search for
and rename an ax file or use John Kelly's utility.
YOU ARE WRONG AGAIN, as we now know the feature you refer to does NOT work
properly and does NOT deal with all of the CODECS...So Sorry to point out
another load of rubbish published by you
Have another nice day
