- Windows XP Hardware >> Screen behavior or ?Hello Experts,
I'm facing a problem on my PC regarding my screen that flashing,
every 20-30 seconds screen blinks/flashes like doing some refreshing.
For example when open (from tray) the date & time properties (double
click on the clock):
1) picking another month from the combo box
2) waiting 30 seconds
3) automatically returns to current month (March '07)
This blinking is obvious anywhere in windows. Another example is that
the language indicator in taskbar, disappears and then appears again.
Finally, some times when working on MS Access 2003, I'm trying to copy
a value from the datasheet of the table and paste it somewhere else.
Copy fails in first or second time.
I think that some spyware might cause this, but I have installed
a good Anti-Spyware to protect my PC. Of course not all Anti-Spywares
protect us from all spywares. I always keep it up to date.
Can you please help me with that?

- Windows XP >> Accessing localhost wants a passwordHi I was wondering if anybody has had this issue before.
I recently had a computer crash and lost my main drive so I had to reinstall
XP Pro
For school I must check my work with different browsers and the only one
that does not want a password is I.E. when accessing localhost. Did I miss
somthing in the reinstall.
This was never a problem before the crash.

- Windows XP Setup >> can't get WinXPHome to renistall or recoverI added a NVidia AGP 4x video card. It worked but then in
certain applications the background went to black. I
tried to reboot the system but when it got to the WInXP
splashscreen with the green running indicators on it,
after a bit they stopped and a blue screen appeared
indicating a registry probem and that it couldn't load.
To goback and try safe mode, etc. For safe mode, safe
mode in command mode, restarting with most recent good
configuration, start in normal mode, all I got was the
starting windows splash and then the blue screen
indicating registery problem. I put in my XPHome cd and
booted from there and tried recovery but I got the blue
screen and it rebooted itself. I then tried the XP Home
install. The program started, went to the searching for
prior installation, then went to the registery problem
blue page. I will not let me reinstall because when it
searches for prior installations, it encounters a
registery problem. any help would be appreciated.

- Windows XP Setup >> XP setup failureI just installed a new Intel motherboard (D875PBZ) and P4
processor, with 2 256 dimms (333--these are the correct
dimms for this P4), and I can access the bios, but when I
start the xp install, I get to the agreement page, press
f8 to install, then I get the following error message:
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
STOP: 0X00000050 (0XC2F00000, 0X00000000, 0X809013D1,
0X00000000)
I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base article re:
0x00000050 stop errors, and I have switched the dimms,
but that has not helped. I cannot access the cached
settings in the bios--there doesn't seem to be a way to
do this in this particular bios. Can't get to a dos
prompt, either, with Fix-It Utilities.
Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

- Windows XP Support >> Replacing that awful MS Sans Serif font!I just got a shiny new LCD monitor, turned on ClearType, and am living in a
world of crisp font goodness like I never thought possible.
All of this comes to a crashing halt when I look at some of the utilities I
use every day, like the K9 spam filter. These programs use the bitmapped "MS
Sans Serif" font, which looks HORRIBLE on my new screen. The small,
pixelated characters almost appear to have a white aura around them -- an
optical illusion which makes text very hard to read.
I did find references to the FontSubstitutes registry key, but "MS Shell
Dlg" is already pointing to the antialiased "Microsoft Sans Serif".
Is there something, anything, I can do to force Windows to use "Microsoft
Sans Serif" (which I assume has the same character set and widths as its
ugly cousin) instead of "MS Sans Serif"? Thanks!

Windows XP >> !Perdita X. Dream/Nitt!
If you've ever had your head ripped off by Perdita X. Dream/Nitt, Amethyst,
Cassandra or any other of her aliases, just forget about it. She is (as my
sig says), a self-righteous, ruthless net-cop. Now, I'm not saying that her
information is incorrect (and vise-versa), just that she tends to explode on
people a little too much. So just like in the real world, just ignore
people like them, (unless they are actually a cop :-P), make sure that you
are not actually doing something that is horribly wrong, and keep on typing.
BTW, you may find the below interesting:
OP:
my current win xp Pro user interface is in Lithuanian.
how can i change it to English please?
Me:
I heard something about a Multilingual User Interface component for Pro.
It's from MS, but I'm not sure if it's included in Pro.
PXD:
You are wrong (again!), no such thing exists. There is a MUI for Office
(applies to VL only) but not Windows.
Me:
Maybe you need to do a little research (again!)
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/choosing2.asp
it's right down at the very bottom.
Please keep your rudeness and ignorance to yourself.
PXD:
That's for OL/VL only. This http://tinyurl.com/iz3k is a link to at least
three dozen people who agree with me. Guess I'm not the ignorant one, huh?
Me:
Hey ignoranus, thats not what you said. You said, "There is a MUI for Office
(applies to VL only) but not Windows."
It just goes to show, that having more than one opinion is important. It's
great that the OP didn't only hear PXD's 'expert' (her words not mine)
advice. And for someone with an English degree, you would think that she'd
read a little more carefully.
No doubt however, I will receive replies from PXD, Bruce Chambers, and a few
others, saying how I am a 'fuckwit', 'moron', or 'lazy cretin, but read this
for yourself, and make you're own decision.

So I noticed. PXD probably pulled a few strings. After all, she does suck
up (yes, a horrible understatement), to MS and MVPs. I was surprised
though. I've seen many worse posts allowed to stay on the server. Oh well,
I guess MS wants people to be offended by some users, so that they won't
come back.

You take to having the truth shot at you....not very well. Who did you promise
to give a rectum cleaning with your tongue, to be able to say 'blacklisted'?
Are you trying to be scary and show you have some kind of huge imaginary power,
but actually meant 'plonked' on your client? Yes, that's what I thought.
Having trouble find a fast moving Mack Truck to step in front of? Maybe you're
just too stupid to know how to do even that. Well, they can still use you to
test plastic bags at that factory (you might want to at least *try* to clean
off some of that revolting stench off your flab...you know, to show them you
want them to respect you before you put on that first plastic bag).
Where's the others who bitch and whine about people cussing now? Not one word
to amethyst aka perdita here. The Grand Group of Hypocrites strikes again!

The mapping solution works well EXCEPT that the mapped

Is there some way to keep the mapped drive active? Is

Here is a Link to the SMART stats for my hard drive, it is a small
graphic.

My hard drive is the following:
"Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 ST3320620AS, 320GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA
3.0Gb/s"
Can anyone help me make sense of the SMART while considering the drive
is making Bad noises?

- customize >> Windows UpdateAfter doing some tweaking in my WinXP registry and
services, I have effectively disabled windows update. I
consider this a bad thing. If anyone could help me figure
out why the download process initiates up to the point of
the license agreement then stops abruptly, I would be
greatful. Chris

- Windows XP Support >> Can't get Netmeeting to work, please helpHi,
I have netmeeting installed and the video seems to work fine. However it
says it cannot connect to a directory once I am in. I've had friends
manually type in my IP Address and and it tells them that I am not able to
connect to NetMeeting. Any ideas on how to fix this up? I am at a loss! I
don' t understand why I can't connect to a directory. Thanks.
