- Windows XP >> Recovered most files from deleted partition but....'m using a free program from a German company called "Convar" called
PC Inspector and I've been able to recover most of the files from my
deleted partition.
However, a few songs give me an error message such as...
Windows Title Bar: NT_read error
drv:129 LBA: 633912008 block:128
I get the option to abort, rety, or ignore - If I ignore it the same
box pops up but the LBA number changes.
I haven't made any changes to the drive ( that I know of) since I
accidently deleted the partition table. Is there anything I can do to
recover these files?
Would I have better luck with R-Studio, Acronis Disk DIrector - or
something else?

back to uncheck the East Asia Languages check box and that didn't work. I
know I need the WORDRET.MSI file to finish the install, but again I don't
have the disk. Is there another way to finish the install? Please help it is

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Re 4:3 vs 16:9Interesting posts as my last movie was the first I made after buying my new
Samsung HL-R5067 50" wide screen DLP HD TV. I wondered about a way to get
rid of the upper and lower bars.
My Sony Handicam has a 16:9 shooting format feature. If I video with this
format range, upload & edit, and save in a 16:9 format, will the bars be
gone?
Thank you.

- Windows XP Support >> Problem at bootupI recently opened up my PC and removed all the components from it in order to
clean the dust and grime build up that occurs over time. ESD isnt an issue
as i was wearing a static strap. The system starts up, does the RAM count,
but after that i get nothing. No beep, nothing. At the front of the PC, the
two floppy LED's are constantly on. What does this indicate and can i fix it?
or is this a Mobo issue or a cpu issue?

- Windows XP Support >> No Icons (little green field with white arrow) in user accountsHello,
i have one problem. When i´m going into the user accounts i only can see
white fields with a red cross instead of that usually shown green field with
a white arrow.
The funtionality is given - only the optical things don´t work.
Usually infront of "user accounts", "user account types" and "change user"
there are those small icons.
Even when i boot in secure mode or log in with another user account - the
effect stays the same.
I am using a german windows xp pro including all updates. For this
description i simply translated the german words into english - i hope
everybody can understand what i´m trying to explain.
Thanks for your help

that in my Internet Explorer history files that not only does it show the
web pages history, it also shows all files that have been accessed. It did
not show computer files in history with Window ME. How can I get the

- Windows XP Basic >> Scheduled Task not runningHi,
I'm trying to run a Scheduled Task backup using an SQL database. For some
reason it creates the task but doesn't run it. The following information is
in the Run field in the Task Properties.
"C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Administrator 1.1\MySQLAdministrator.exe"
"-UDC:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\MySQL\" "-c"
"-bpRDIRANI1" "-btC:\" "-bxRDIRANI1"
Is Scheduled Task only good for opening applications and not running them?
Please advise. Thanks!

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Recurring ProblemI have a bad recurring problem. This happens almost
every week. One day I will randomly restart my computer
only to find that, yet again, I am receiving an error
similar to "Error Message: Windows Could Not Start
Because the C:\windows\system32\config\system File is
Missing or Corrupt"
us;823614&Product=winxp). I do what the Knowledge Base
says but this of course totally screws up my system and I
end up having to reformat/reinstall. This happens on a
regular basis. It has happened about 6 times now and I
am starting to become very upset with it. I am running
on a college campus through their cable internet. I am
using a college-provided copy of Mcafee. I always keep
my computer up-to-date. Any ideas? Thanks.

partway through becasue it was taking a long time, and this morning, windows
will not start up. It says:

It gives you an option to start in safe mode, when we chose that it still

- Windows XP Support >> Sharing printer with Net UseI have a problem with enabling a share. Our windows users are running
under Power User access instead of Local Administrator access. This
works well excpet when it comes time to share a printer.
They are using an old DOS app that prints to LPT1: We have a shared
printer connected to a PC that we can NET USE to
NET USE lpt1: \\computer\printer share name
the problem is, now that users do not have local administrator access
this connection fails. I cannot seem to get this to work...even if I
put in a user name and password with local admin rights to either pc
the script bombs.
How can I get this port mapped to the shared printer without having to
grant local admin rights back to the user?

- Windows XP >> Does XP(MCE) require that Java be installed?Zone Alarm firewall reported yet another process trying to go on the
web. It turned out to be the Java updater checking for updates
(jusched.exe). A little digging shows that there are five instances
of this program on my Dell C521, three in .../program files/java...
and two in BIN (whatever that is). Those in BIN seem to be compressed.
I ran a virus check on the directory ...'program files/Java... and it
took 15 minutes to complete scanning some 54000 objects (whatever an
'object' is)! That is just in the Java directory, I have no idea
where or what the bin directory is, so I couldn't check those.
Okay, that's my rant - now my question:
Is Java really necessary for XP if you want to go on the web? I like
to visit certain news web pages.
Will I foul something up in my computer if I run this test?:
1. Temporarily rename the Java folder to zzzJava.
2. Visit my usual web pages with Java folder renamed.
3. See if I can still view the pages.
4. If necessary rename the folder back to the original name.
Is there any danger is running that test? When Java can't find its
folder it won't automatically reinstall itself will it?
Thank you so much for any insight.

- Windows XP Hardware >> How 2 transfer data between a backup partition....First thanks to all you responders you have either bailed
me out before or saved me an eternity finding the
answers.. This is a "how to" question...
I recently configured the machine to contain an exact
copy of my windows partition.... I can't stand Windows
XP, and had far fewer headaches that I've ever had withd
DOS/98/SE/ME. I'm going to this so I can sleep, after
having a WIndows partion damaged and all the recovery
tools completely inaccessable. The machine as far as I
know asks if I want to boot the duplicate partition but
that's OK (to my surprise it's supposed to be hidden)
according to Partition Magic 8.1
The question is how does one update the backup partition,
so that it stays current? The backup can get to old.
What is the best way to do this without constantly
engaging Partition Magic to delete and then copy the
partition every time an update is deemed necessary.
I believe that I have to unhide the partition but what
then?
Many thanks

- Windows XP Security >> Cannot connect to SymantecHello,
I cannot connect to Symantec.com (using Internet

I have tried to use the Symantec tech support but I

Perhaps someone has the answer how to resolve this?

- Windows XP >> Control Panel errorAm running XP Home SP-2 with all current updates. Not sure when this first
started, but recently noticed that in Category View clicking on some icons
returns "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close. We
are sorry for the inconvenience." Closing that pane locks up XP necessitating
end the task with Task Manager via Ctl Alt Del. Have not tested every icon,
but one it happens consistently on is Printers and Other Hardware. Classic
mode seems normal. Is there a way to restore/repair the Control Panel short
of reloading Windows and applying all the myriad of updates? I have searched
the KB and Net without coming up with anything.

- Windows XP >> Sorting the SentTo menuI'm running WinXP Pro SP1, in the Windows Classic mode.
I have a rather long "SendTo" menu (the menu that opens from the Send To =

I've tried right-clicking on a blank gray area of the menu, trying to =
get a menu with the option with "Sort by name" to appear, but =
right-clicking the gray area does nothing. If I right-click on a menu =
item, it activates that item, which I don't want to happen. I've tried =
opening the SendTo folder and sorting and resorting its contents, but =
this has no effect on the SendTo menu.
Can anyone tell me how to sort the items that appear on the SendTo menu?
Thank you!
