- Windows XP Hardware >> online healthy drive doesnt show up in "My Computer"I am running XP pro. I have a Promise Ultra133 with 3 spanned drives
connected. When I reinstalled windows today I reinstalled the ultra133 driver
and as usual the drives showed up in Comp management as foreign. I clicked
"Import" and the status of the drives changed to "Online" and "healthy" the
problem is the spanned drive still doesnt show up in "My Computer" What could
cause this and how can I fix it.
I thought maybe the drive was unreadable or something so I tried starting a
defrag operation. It started fine and began moving files. Seems like the
system can see the drives and use them but it doesnt want me to use them :)

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Easy Media Creator 7 can't make slipstream cd-romsSlipstreaming is the term used for merging fixes, usually
service packs with the install files for a Windows OS, so
that a installer cd-rom can be created that includes a service
pack. This is required if a system has hard drives over 137GB
and wants to avoid data loss during re-install.
Microsoft's knowlege base references slipstreaming in a few
places, but you need to google "slipstreaming windows xp"
to reach a few sites that have well written instructions.
The point here is that many of these sites mention both
Nero and EZ CD/DVD Creator versions 5 and 6 for creating
a Windows OS bootable cd-rom. However this feature has been
removed from the lastest version of Easy Media Creator.
The current version of Nero still works just fine.

- Windows XP Support >> My Documents folder all fouled up.I've looked all over for help for this problem before coming to this group.
I acquired a used PC with a legitimate copy of WinXP SP2 but no CD. I've
tried to set it up for my friends "M" and "T" with two users. I copied their
old Win98SE documents over to the newer PC. Somehow, I've totally futzed up
and the computer is now named "M", the My Documents folder is under
C:\Documents and Settings\M\MyDocuments, "T" shows up on the Start menu as
the user name, T's documents are not in the My Documents folder under "M",
the My Documents folder refers only to M's documents and not any of T's
documents, the MyDocuments shortcut opens M's documents but not T's
documents. and I dunno what more I can foul up next.
What my friends would like to have, at minimum, is a one user system with
all of their documents collected together in the correct My Documents folder
accessible in all the routine ways. Actually having a properly operating two
user system would be like Christmas in July.
If I've confused the reader, one can imagine how befuddled I am. How do I
get this li'l puppy back on track, please?
BTW, the computer itself works fine, I've got it all tweaked up, protected,
etc. but the My Documents issue is maddening.
As I've never posted to this newsgroup before and am not sure how I will get
back to it, if any kind person has some help to offer here I'd appreciate
receiving it also at Roygulator@hotmail.com. Thanks VERY much for any
assistance offered.

- Windows XP >> Underlining of links. This is a problem affecting OE but not IE.
URLs are underlined in the messages I send but not in the email /
newsgroups I receive.
I know that this can be set in Control Centre --> Internet Options -->
Advanced --> Underline Links (and I've got 'Always' checked). But
whilst this controls the underlining of links in IE (both i/c and o/g)
and o/g messages in OE those I download in OE never have links
underlined.
This is a new phenomenon - I'm not aware of having changed anything.
TIA of any suggestions.

- Windows XP >> WORD PAD QUESTIONS!In Word Pad can you please tell me how I can set it up so that when I hit the
enter button on the keyboard where it will double space itself by going to
the next 2 lines on down automatically so that I won't have to hit the enter
button twice to do so. I noticed that sometimes it will do it on it's on and
I never ever know quite why it's doing that. Can you please explain why it
might be doing that on it's on without any interaction on my part without
setting it up to do that.
Also, I was wondering if you might be able to tell me why this happens as
well in Word Pad sometimes. Sometimes when I am typing and I make a mistake
and either put the cursor next to the mistake and click there and either
backspace or the delete button to correct the mistake it will start
overwriting what I have already typed ahead of it which is not the mistake
part and eventually that part will end up disappearing altogether. The same
thing will happen sometimes when I put the cursor there just to add more
words as well. I have noticed that in order to keep it from doing that I have
to click the part ahead of it and then hit enter so that it will go on down
to the next line to keep it from doing that. I love using word pad every
chance that I get and I don't wont to quit using it just for this very
reason. Other times it won't act up at all like that and act normal just like
it's suppossed to. Can you please tell me how to fix this or what setting I
need to go into to do that. Can you please tell me what might be causing this
problem as well as this is so so annoying and very very frustrating to say
the least.
Thank you and have a great day!!!

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> Can't detect capture deviceI recently bought a Dazzle 150 capture device, but when I hit capture from
video device, I get this message:
"A video capture device was not detected. Verify that a device is turned on

I know everything is set up right, because it works when I use the software
that came with it ( Pinnacle Studios ), but I prefer Windows Movie Maker,
it's easier to work with...

Windows XP Security >> Home network, cant browse internet on XP
Good Morning,
I have a friend with a home network that has 6 machines. There are a couple different OS's running acroos the 6 machines, Win 98, Win XP home, Win XP Pro, and MAC OS X. There is an 8 port Linksys router, routing IP from a cable modem. There are no restrictions set up on the router. The router is running DHCP
The problem is that one of the users ( a Win XP Home machine ) cannot browse the internet. I can ping yahoo.com and get a response, sometimes one of the lines will time out, but still get a response on the line after. I tried releasing the IP information, then renewing. I am getting an IP address, and all the DNS servers on renew. I tried flushing the DNS, tried clearing the cache.
My gut says there is something up with the DNS, but I can't figure it out. All the other machines are setup for DHCP and have no problems at all. Norton is on there , but that doesn't completely rule out viri
Any Thoughts???

- Windows XP Hardware >> dvd drives (rom and writer) suddenly not working after Norton issuesI currently use XP. I had Norton SystemWorks and a trial
version of Norton Internet Security on my computer. I
bought the full version of Internet Security. I
uninstalled the trial version, but then got a message
that said "ccRegVfy. exe failed to start because
ccTrust.dll was not found." At the same time, my dvd rom
and writer became unrecognizable when I went to My
Computer. I tried uninstalling all Norton components,
which is no simple task, but I still get the same
message. System Restore was no help, it won't restore to
any point before the Norton initial removal. Has anyone
else had a similar problem? I can't install either
Norton (SystemWorks or Internet Security) in the hope
that it will fix the problem itself because my roms don't
work. Any suggestions?

- Windows XP Support >> Windows logs in and immediately logs outI cant't log in. After entering username and password appears that
"Loading your settings" window, then just after loading settings (I
think they are loaded successfully: for instance appearance and colors
of window change and "Welcome" sound plays) appears window "Saving your
settings". And session finishes. This happens for any user account.
Perhaps something that is started by Windows cause it to log out. I was
able to find a tool and removed everything from "Run", "RunOnce", etc
(only in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE). Nothing changed. How can I determine what
caused such behaviour or fix it?

- Windows XP >> Internet Activity... HELP!This is driving me to distraction. I have a broadband cable connection with an icon for
the connection in the system notification area. The problem began today. The Local Area
Connection icon now blinks every 2 seconds or so, and the Status says that I am sending 2
Packets each time the icon blinks. No packets are being received. I use Zone Alarm for a
Firewall, and am very careful. I did a system restore back to 2 days ago when all was
fine, but that did not fix the problem. I scanned with my antivirus program, with latest
definitions, and nothing was found. I scanned with Ad-Aware, PC Spyware Doctor, Spy
Sweeper, HiJackThis, and the utility Autoruns, and could not find anything. I looked at
MSCONFIG and there were not any new entries in Startup. None of my software or utilities
are set to automatically update (I do it all manually, so it is not something trying to
connect to update). I did not install any new software prior to the problem. I even set
Zone Alarm to ask if Outlook Express wants to connect, just in case it is a Trojan trying
to send out spam. But, no Zone Alarm alerts pop up, except when I use Outlook Express. I
really do not want to have to do a clean install to get rid of this problem. Does anyone
have any ideas?

- Windows XP Network >> IP Addressing IssuesI have a client of mine that is having a lot of problems accessing the
Internet. Her set up is this: D-Link cable modem/wireless router w/4 port
switch. The switch is wired to a Mac Airport for a wireless Mac and a PC
(XP) notebook and a wired desktop. They all work fine except for the
desktop. For some reason, the desktop is having problems getting an IP from
from the router. When it does get one, it is only for a brief moment and
loses it. When you try to re-aquire an IP, I get an error stating that
access is denied - IP's are all zeros. I have tried to add a Linksys
wireless USB adapter instead of CAT5 cable. That does not work. Restarting
does not work. I have tried everything. Now for the kicker. When I brought
the workstation to my shop and set it up on my wireless (Linksys 8 port
router with a Linksys G access point), the workstation works fine. I let it
run for two days without a problem and great speed. I am at a loss as to why
this is happening. The only common denominator is that AirPort. Could that
be causing a conflict somehow?
