- Windows XP >> An an INF file guru help me with a problem. What I'm going to do is quote an exchange of messages to and from
Seagate which really explains everything and the headache I've got.
The basic core question I have is what needs to be done to create
another `.inf` file that will allow Windows XP to recognise an ATAPI
IDE Seagate tape drive that's living in a USB external drive
enclosure.
Seagate are being prats. To prevent liable action from any paticular
person, names have been omitted.
Can someone help? Please . . . .
------------------------------------------------
Never mind. I've just given you the solution. I'll create an INF
file to do the job. Maybe the drive was not designed to operate the
way I've got it working, but I can report that it's working perfectly.

- Windows XP Perform Maintain >> Norton Antivirus Install TroubleI am having a really hard time getting NAV2004 to install on my computer...
I think there might still be an old version that is not fully removed, as
it seems to be skipping the step where it normally asks for the code from
the cd.
It fails every time around the halfway point of copying the files.
Is there some way to check for remnants of the previous install? Or maybe
another way to get it to work?
Any help is appreciated...
Thanks,

- Windows XP Network >> Wireless between Win98 and XPHello,
I am having the following problem:
I setup an ad'hoc wireless connection between A Win98 and an XP.
The problem is that, after booting the XP machine, it can't ping the Win98, or access file on it.
The connection only works between these 2 PCs after doing a ping from the Win98 machine to the XP machine.
After doing that, everything works fine, but the very first connection has to be initiated fron Win98.
This does not occur at all between two Win98 machine.
This behavior is systematic.
I am using static IP, noy using DNS or DHCP, very simple setup.
I suspect some setup to do on XP.
Another point is that the cards on the Win98 are 802.11b/11Mb, and the XP card is 802.11b/22Mb, but this is supposed to be compatible, and it works well, after doing the ping.
Thanks for helping,

installed the patch. After rebooting several times, my

I heard maybe my problem is my DV camcorder is kind of old(I brought it from
1998, JVC DV-GR3), someone told me that the driver inside my camcoder might
not fast enough. But few days ago someone posted here said his SONY
camcorder had some problem. So I just wonder if all the DV caputer has some
problem?

Windows XP >> trouble downloading windows xp patches and updates
Look in C;/ Windows for the system32 folder/catroot2 (I
remember the catroot2, the path may be slightly in error.
Delete or rename catroot2 and do your update. A new
catroot2 will be created automatically.

- Windows XP Network >> Home Network - can't access using share nameWe have 5 PCs connected to our home network - 4 wireless, 1 desktop.
Printer/music/media is shared from the desktop to the network.
Desktop's name is \\MAIN
All but one of the wireless PCs can access the desktop using \\MAIN but one
laptop cannot - I have to use the IP address \\192.168.xx.xxx, for example.
Problem is that if I restart the desktop it will get a new IP address from
my router, which will then require me to re-map to a new IP address from the
laptop. All of the other PCs can access \\MAIN using the "friendly" name
regardless of the IP address. Why? Can I fix this? Thanks.

The issue I have is, the settings all apply, but the screen is blank when
the user logs in. I can go to the display page and select the desktop tab,
the proper image is selected, and it shows in the little preview window, but
it is not displaying on the monitor. I have to select either center or tile,
then press apply, then change it back to streach. The image is then shown on
screen. After I log off again and back on, the same thing happens all over
again.
I am running XP Professional in local mode not in a domain. Group policies
are local only.
What am I missing here?
Thanks in advance...

- customize >> Desktop Icons in XPI have changed my desktop icons, ie.. My Computer,
Recycle Bin, and Network Places. The icons keep changing
back to their default and the only way for me to change
them back is to keep a desktop theme saved. It seems
like when I go into anything to do with windows, like
Control Panel or a program like that they change back.
There are times it won't even save them when I reboot my
computer.
This is the first time this has happened to me and it has
been this way since I completely redone my computer a
little while ago.

- Windows XP >> usb_bugcodeWhen I have my USB printer attached, ( only USB device )
I
will randomly get BSOD's. The message mentions a
USB_BUGCODE driver or something like that. I wrote it
down, but lost it. It was either USB_BUGCODE or
BUGCODE_USB. I searched my harddisk and there appears to
be no such file. It only occurs when the printer is
plugged in, but not necessarily when using it. Any
idea's ??

- Windows XP Security >> Access Device Manager as a "User"Hi All,
I have a problem where by a normal "User" on a stand alone
XP laptop needs access to the baud rate settings on the
serial card from Device Manager. We don't give our users
Power User membership as we don't let them install
programs. Does anyone know of a way around this? I have
looked at the local security policy and group policies but
can't find anything??
Any ideas??
