- Windows XP Update >> Unable to download and install updatesI am at my wit's end trying to solve this prob. I am able to find 11 udates,
but when trying to download and install them, the computer just seems to
hang. I have tried reregistering Msscript.ocx, Dispex.dll, Vbscript.dll and
Scrrun.dll but this didn't help. I have added the Update website to my
Trusted Sites (Windows Firewall).
My computer is otherwise fine and very quick (Fujitsu Siemens Amilo L
laptop, Celeron 2.4 GHz processor, 248 MB RAM, Broadband connection). I have
McAfee anti-virus software.
Can anybody please help??

- Windows XP Support >> Lost over 19,000 music files! NEED HELP!Alright, I had recently bought a 500gb External hardrive for my computer, as
it was low on disk space, and installed it. Everything was, and is still
working fine. What I did was backup my files first, which proved to be
ridiculous as it was really not proving to help the space. So I deleted the
files off the new hard drive, and decided to only add my music files, which
carried around 114gb of space. When I backed those music folders (I had
organized them all intricately by genre, author, etc. It took A LOT of
tedious work) into the new harddrive, I deleted the same folder with the
music files on my old harddrive, by virtue of saving space. I go to check the
space on my new hard drive, and I mistakenly take the space open for the
space closed; thus, I worry and I go to the options of my external harddrive,
which is 'Maxter', and click on a button which is meant to clean up every
file that is 'deleted on the old hard drive but is present in the new hard
drive'. I clicked to confirm the clean up of the files, and it said something
like: 'this process will clean up the drive etc.' and then it sayd 'OK' on
the buttom. By now I had realized that it would be imprudent to carry on with
the deletion, so I gladly closed the window 'without' clicking the ok button,
thinking everything would be fine.
Next thing that happened, my 19,000+ organized music files were GONE! I
tried system restore, and to my surprise, the 'empty' folders had returned,
but NO actual music files.
Any suggestions? I'm in desperate need of help, I really am, I am unsure of
what to do, any help would be much appreciated.
These files were extremely difficult to a) find b) organize c) took a lot of
time.

- Windows XP Hardware >> accidentally deleted driver - Help!Hello,
I have a rether complecated scenario. Here it is. I
bought a new Compaq presario earlier in the year which
came with a ASUS cd-s480/AH cd-rom drive. I installed a
Plextor Plexwriter 12/10/32A in addition (I took it out
of my old computer which was running windows 98). I
tried to install the software (Adaptec Create CD 4) that
came with the plextor.
After I installed the Adaptec software I got an error
message on every startup that said the driver was not
compatible and would be disabled. The drives continued
to work, however. I located the "offending" files and
deleted them. Now both the ASUS and Plextor drives do
not appear in "my computer." I don not remember the
names of the two files I deleted.
Can anyone offer any advice?
Thanks

- Windows XP MovieMaker >> DVDsI have created movies from my digital camera through Windows Movie Maker, and
turned into a movie.
I then burn it onto DVD using NeroVision with various chapters etc.
PROBLEM - sometimes the DVD plays on the DVD player through the television
all the way through and then another time it just stops and pauses. I figure
if there was anything wrong with the disc itself then it would not work on
the computer / laptop.
Have gone through many DVD discs re-burning etc and still having problems.
Have a brand new DVD player and still this occurs.
Any help would be much appreciated.

- Windows XP Security >> remote accessI was scanning around inside the heart of my computer
when I stumbled across the Event Viewer when I seen all
these information files and some of them were from the
source:Remote Access. This is the properties of the
files. "The connection to MSN Explorer made by user

my username is surely not 35024877@msn.net. Can you tell
me if this is a hacker?

- Windows XP Network >> File Sharing Problem on Home NetworkHi there experts. I'd appreciate some help here.
The setup is 2 computers (one running Windows XP Home the
other running Windows 2000 Pro) connected to a simple home
network. I have admin privileges on both machines. I can
share folders in my profile on the XP machine via the
network using simple file sharing. All users can access
them remotely from the Win 2000 machine as expected.
Problem happens when I try to share folders on the XP
machine that are in a different user's profile. This user
only has limited privileges (if that matters). Anyway,
these newly shared folders are visible remotely on the Win
2000 machine in Windows Explorer. However, when I try to
open the them and view the files within I get "Access
Denied" error message.
Since many other folders are shared on this network
without problem, I assume network setup is working
correctly. I'm even able to share a fold that is directly
under C:\ and not within any user's "Documents and
Settings" profile. What's going on with trying to share
folders in this one user's profile?
Thanks for your help.

- Windows XP Support >> Xp hardware question about monitors.Hi all,
I am running windows XP with sp2 installed with a NVidia geforce 440 AGP8x.
Now the trouble I am having is that the hardware profile for my PC is
showing 2 monitors installed and the video card has options for both. Now I
only have one monitor installed and I have tried deleting one from the list,
un-installing it from the hardware profile, but after a reboot there are 2
again.
they are listed as default monitor and plug and play monitor.
The plug and play one is the one that the card is using as monitor 1 so I
tried the uninstall of the default be it came back.
I tried disabling it and when I call up my display properties I still get
options for resolution etc for 2 monitors.
I have an onboard graphics chip but I have it fully disabled and uninstalled.
monitor 1 is a proview/emc/pts em-175 this is the one windows is using and
is listed as plug and play monitor in my hardware listing.
monitor 2 is listed as TV in the nvidia software. If I select this as my
view type the monitor goes into power save mode and I have to hit escape to
get back.
The second listed monitor in the hardware listing is know as default monitor.
I have nividia set to a single display set up so why is windows display
properties allowing me to select resolutiuons etc for 2 monitors? in there it
doesn't list TV it lists the Plug and play which I use and is set to 32bit
1024 x 768. listing 2 is the default monitor and won't go any higher than 800
x 600 32 bit.
these are the listings for the drivers for both.
PnP microsoft driver version 5.1.2001.0
DISPLAY\PTS0304\5&152B52D&3&11335577&01&00
default microsoft driver 5.1.2001.0
DISPLAY\DEFAULT_MONITOR\5&152B52D&3&113377A1&01&00
can anyone help me get rid of this "default monitor" from my hardware
listing so that Windows doesn't see that I have 2 and so my video card only
has set up for one monitor?
Thnx

You probably either have a virus, a trojan or some other
piece of malicious software.
